The new bulletin, by USDA's Soil Conservation Service, points out that erosion and sediment formation can be Rreatly reouc ,ui ho thn followliiL' methods: Use soils best suited for the proposed development. Leave soils bare the shortest possible time. Reduce the velocity and con trol the flow of runoff. Detain runoff on the site to trap sediment, and. Release runoff safely to downstream areas. The bulletin discusses a num ber of vegetative and mechani cal measures which will help control erosion and reduce sedi ment formation. Elsa Mott Services Held Monday Elsa Farley Mott, 79, passed away Feb. 25 at Pioneer Mem orial Hospital. A resident of Heppner since 19C2, Mrs. Mott was born Dec. 10, 1891 in Arkansas. As a reg istered nurse, she formerly oper ated a nursing home In Camas, Wn. Mrs. Mott was a member of Vashtl Chapter No. 136, Order of Eastern Star In Washougni. Wn. Services were held March at the First Christian Church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Don W Johason officiating. Peggy John son, organist offered prelude and posllude selections. Casket bearers were Randall Peterson, Pete McMurtry, Harley Sager, Marcel Jones, Randy Lott and Bill Collins. Concluding services were held at 4:00 p.m. at the IOOF Ceme tery in Washougal, Wn., with Sweeney Mortuary In care of the arrangements. Survivors include one daugh ter, Mrs. Charles Starks of Hepp ner; two sisters, Ethel Heare of Red Lodge, Mont., and Mrs. A. If.; two grandchildren and one W. Burrows of Sacramento, Cal great grandchild. Contributions may be made to the Pioneer Memorial Hospital Fund. Dee Coxs Move To Town Mr. and Mrs. Deo J. Cox have leased their ranch on Black Horse to Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Miles. They have bought the Mabel Chaffee home at 475 N. Elder and expect to move into town very soon. They have farmed the Black Horse ranch alnce 1937 and before that they ranched the home place at Lex ington known as the Palmer Place. Their son Lester farms this ranch now. They have an other son, Marvin, who has a Drive-In Theatre at Springfield, Utah. x The Coxa have never lived In town and are a little apprehen sive about how they will like It They wish very much that Heppner had some form of pub lie transportation out or town.
