The gun bill that you referred to ha been amended and is now a Hunters Safety BUI which merely provides that one hunt ing shall not carry a shell in the chamber of his gun w-hen he Is on public highways. Rep. Hanscll and I never had any intention of writing a gun control bill and we are only in terested in a legislative admo nition to encourage hunter safety- I would appreceiate hearing your reaction to the enclosed bill which is the version the Legislature will consider. LaVerne wasn't charged with a foul through the whole Pilot Rock game. Steve Kemp and Gary Watkins combined for 64 points over thej weekend with 32 apiece. These j two are going to have to be i more consistent in the future. Maybe something that should be mentioned is the poor free throw shooting of the Mustangs it's a good game when the Hoopsters make more than they miss at the gift line. For the purpows of this section, a firearm is loaded when there Is an unexpended cartridge or shell in the chamber of the fire arm. (2) The hunting license revo cation provided In subsection 1 of ORS 437.285 U in addit ion to and not in lieu of the criminal penalty provided for violation of subsection (1 of this section. j (3) This section dues not ap ply to the carrying of a fire arm by a person while hunting as defined in ORS 496.015 hU own land or on land con trolled by him other than pub lie land. (4 This section does not ap ply to the carrying of a firearm capable of being concealed up on the person. Section 3. ORS 497.285 amended to read: 497.285. (1) Any licensed hunt or or angler convicted of viola tion of ORS 161.410, 164.460 or 164300 while hunting or fishin or any licensed hunter convicted of possessing or carrying a load ed firearm in a motor vehicle in violation of section 2 of this 1971 Act while hunting shall have his hunting or angling li cense revoked for the remainder of the year in which the con viction occurs and shall be de nied a hunting or angling li cease in the next succeeding year. (ED. NOTE: Ron Bittner, chairman of the Morrow County Arm of the National Association to Keep and Bear Arms has long felt that hunting was a privil ege as well as a right and vio lators should Ins deprived of that privilege long enough for them to appreciate that privilege.) We are fortunate to have the services of a physical therapist and a visiting nurse to help with his care. He Is able to be at home at present.
