He was rushed to Pendleton and placed in traction from Oct. 23 to Dec. 8. He was removed rfom trac tion and placed in a body cast. At the very least, Andy will be In this cast for six weeks; how ever, he was able to return home for recuperation. While in the hospital and at home, Andy has received cards, letters, and visits from kind and concerned friends and he has remained in cheerful spirits, He is currently being tutored by Mrs. Ron Riley. Marts James S. Marts, 80 died at his home in Heppner, Sunday, Dec. 20. Mr. Marts was born July 7, 1890 in oMntgomery County, Indiana. He came to the Hepp ner area in 1906 and was em ployed in the logging industry for a number of years. He la ter did ranch work and lived in Hardman for 30 years. Survivors include a sister, Pearl Guil, Auburn, Ind., and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Indiana. Graveside services were Wed nesday, Dec. 23 at 1:00 p.m. at1 the Hardman Cemetery with I Rev. Edwin Cutting of the Unit ed Methodist Church officiating. Gary Sander, Oregon State University Extension forestry specialist, offers some guide lines for selecting a fresh heal thy tree: Gently pull the needles at the end of a branch. Bend them. The needles of a fresh tree will be firmly attached and pliable. Rub your fingers across the stump. It should be sticky with resin. The tree should be clean, free of moss, vines, or other foreign material. Foliage should be natural-appearing, free from in sect or disease damage. When you bring the tree home, Sander advises, cut at least an inch from the stump. If possible, cut at an angle to allow absorption of more water. Place the tree in water im mediately.
