Forms must be returned to County Extension Of fice by Aug. 10. Members should check with leaders or call office if one la not received. Members are encouraged to browse through the 1970 fair pre mium book as they plan for fair events. Early preparation of ex hibits, planning and practice for contests and demonstrations make for good experiences at County Fair for 4-H members. Sryla Bern Superintendents Meeting, July 22 A planning session for 4-H Fair Style Revue superintend ents Is set for 2:00 p.m. Wed nesday, July 22, at the First Nat lonal Bank Conference room in Heppner. Style Revue will be held out doors on the fairgrounds Wed riesday evening, Aug. 26 this year. The outdoors show requires advance planning. All superln tendents listed In the premium book and all interested clothing and knitting leaders are encour aged to attend this preliminary planning session. Attention All 4-R Horn Ec Leaders If for any reason you will be unable to help as superintend ent in the department at county fair where you are listed (or prefer to work in another) please call the Extension Office as soon as possible. Preliminary plans for a big 4-H Fair are underway and co operation from all leaders will be necessary and appreciated. Canning Pressure Gauges The County Extension Office now has information on where pressure gauges for canners may be sent to be tested. Information on costs and mailing address is available by calling 676-9642. Group to Organize For Exceptional Children HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES. Thursday. July It. 1970 To approach the problem of the mentally retarded Tom Hlgley of the EOSH explained to the group meeting Thursday at the Neighborhood Center that citizens must be- Informed. To remove the stigma often asso ciated with retardation, those working with this group now think of them as "exceptional". Henry Hess, president of the Umatilla County Association of Exceptional Children said that "50 of their membership were interested peoplo working for the benefit of the exceptional child". National figure for the per cent of population needing help is 3 to 5. In Morrow Coun ty with a population of 4258 this would Indicate 22 persons in Morrow County who would ben cfit from training facilities. It Is now advisable to keep these except lonal people in the Party Honors Rev. Cutting A surprise birthday party was held Tuesday, July 7, for the Rev. Edwin Cutting, at the home of Mrs. Ida Farra. Guests in cluded Mrs. Cutting, Mrs. Em ma Hager, Mrs. Mary Bailey, Mrs. Effie Johnson, Frank Turn er and Earl Gilliam. BACK FROM SAN ANTONIO Mr. and Mrs. Carey Hastings returned Monday evening from San Antonio, Tex. where they had visited for two weeks with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Henry, Hank and Joyce. On previous visits they had toured The Alamo and the riv er gardens. This time they went to Kerrvllle, saw Lady Bird's Park, Johnson CHy. Saw the LJB Ranch from the highway which they say was a beautiful place. Mrs. Hastings especially enjoy ed seeing the new shopping cen ters. Mr. Hastings got in some bass fishing. Services are being provided to train them which will equip them to become in dependent and off the tax rolls. With this change of attitude, Mr. Hifilcy said that the EOSH has taken the lead. They have plac ed 30 trained exceptional per- sons out in the community who have not had to return to the hospital. There are various services that may be explored by the group wishing to organize here on July 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Neighborhood Center. Business Meeting Followed At the regular monthly meet ing of the Neighborhood Center board which followed, Mrs. Her man Green told of the training. sessions that Bob Gross, tech nical assistant from Washington, D. C. is offering to all the Ad visory board and Community Action boards. He will give a lesson here on August 13 at the next regular meeting. Judge Paul Jones reported on the Food Stamp program in which the county may be par ticipating. He would like to have I those on the present Abundant I Food Program call him and let him know how they feel about changing to the Stamp Program. MOVING??
