Munkers -Healy Exchange Nuptial Vows Sheila Healy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Healy be came the bride of Donald W. Munkers, ton of Mr. and Mrs. Riley Munkers, all of Heppner. on June 27, at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony was read by Father Raymond Beard, at St. Patrick's Church. The bride, given 'n marriage by her father, wore a white gown of nylon organza and Chantlliy lace with an empire waist, fitted bodice, high neck line, and long puffed sleeves. She wore a Juliet cap with shoulder length veil. She car ried a daisy nosegay. Maid of honor was Judy Gent ry, cousin of the bride. Brides maids were Alene Boyajlan, sis ter of the bride, and Kathy Healy, a cousin, of Pendleton. The attendants wore empire gowns with short puff sleeves of Ice blue with white lace over. They had daisy headpieces. They carried white daisy nosegays. Gary D. Munkers, Heppner, was best man for his brother. Ushers were Michael Healy, Roseburg, brother of the bride and D. T. John Nilsen, U. S. Mar ines, Judith Gap, Mont. Wedding music was by San dra Matheny, organist, and Mrs. Jay Wheelhouse, Hermlston, cousin of the bride who sang "Ave Maria", "Mother, At Your Feet Is Kneeling" and "O Lord Most Holy". Kathlene Healy, mother of the bride, wore pale blue knit with matching hat and white acccs sorles Bebe Munkers, mother of the bridegroom wore a pink shantung, with pink hat, and white accessories. They both had white carnation corsages tied with blue ribbon. Reception Follows Wedding reception was held at the Catholic Parish hall with decorations of blue with white daisies and white candles. Serv ing the cake were Mrs. Jerry Daggett, Heppner, aunt of the bride; Mrs. Charlie Simms, Ar lington, aunt of the bridegroom; Mrs. Orlo Martin, Mora, aunt of the bride, and Mrs. WUlard Mar tin, Portland, aunt of the bride. Mrs. Etta Parker was the Installing officer. Somewhere aolng the line, the Heppner Soroptlmists have been tagged with the "Owls". This Is sometimes referred to as the "Hoot Owls" or the "Wise Old Owls". In any event, it Is us ually good for a laugh. The Old Owls A short time ago, President VI Lanham hnd been presented an owl plaque by Eleanor Gonty who had made the owl. The eve ning of the Installation Mrs. Lanham presented It to Mrs. Glenn Smith, the Incoming pres ident Ruby St. John of La Grande club said of her gift to Old Friend Visits Mrs. Adkins Mrs. Sara Adkins was most pleasantly surprised to receive a call Monday afternoon from Louise Riehl, a friend she hadn't seen since 1S36. They had grown up together at Rolla, Mo. Later they were separated when Louise moved to Texas and Sara to Oregon. Mrs. Riehl traveling with her son-in-law and daughter, - Mr. and Mrs. Barney Putz, Janine and Lori, all from Michigan, called from Pendleton for dir ections to get to Heppner. They were horrified with Franklin Grade but had a wonderful ov ernight visit with Sara. On a four-weeks vacation, their plans were to go to Mt. Rainier and Seattle, down the coast across to Texas to visit Mrs. Riehl's sons and then home. Visiting over the holiday with the Ed Gonty family was their son, Raymond Gonty and two of his children, Ramona and Russell, all of Seattle. They pic nicked and camped over the weekend at Bull Prairie Lake. At the gift table, was Linda Eckman, a classmate, Janet Gentry, cousin of the bride was in charge of the Guest Book. Rice bags were passed by Jackie Gentry, cousin of the bride, and the Groom's Cake by Donna Mnnbora cousin of the bride groom. The Heppner Altar Soci ety was in charge oi tne recep tion. Four Grandmothers attended: Mrs. Hortense Martin, Portland, Mrs. Effie Munkers, Heppner, Mrs. Margaret Healy, and Mrs. laniM Dalev. Pendleton. Out of town guests attending were from Pendleton, Mcftlinnvme, Echo, Arlington, Woodburn, Lex ington, Baker, La Grande, Rose burg, Portland, California, Washington, Montana, New jer sey, and Virginia. The couple will reside In Alameda, Calif. The bride Is a 1970 graduate of Heppner High School. The groom is a 1965 graduate of Heppner High School. He attend ed Eastern Oregon College for two years, and is now serving in the Navy, stationed on the U. S. S. Hancock at Alameda, Calif. Brazells Have First Child When Mr. and Mrs. Al Bra zell of Castle Rock, Wn. became the parents of a daughter July 5, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Mar tin of lone became grandpar ents again. The little gal weigh ed 7 lb., 6 oz., and has been named Kathleen Elizabeth. Other grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brazell of Jack sonville Beach, Fla. Mrs. Brazell Is expected this week from Flor ida. Great grandparents are Mrs. Emma Bruschke of Folks ton, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Horton of Dallas, Oregon. GADREN CLUB Heppner Garden Club will meet July 13 at 8 pm. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heard. All gardeners are cordial ly invited. New Teacher to Give Garden Club Program Mr. and Mrs. Franklin McAl lister have arrived in Heppner to make their home. Mr. McAl lister will be teaching business courses in Heppner High school hi fall. Presently thev are liv ing in the Whitaker's studio apartment until tne c. J. u. uau man house on South Court St. is ready. It is being redecorated and some remodeling done. Mr. McAllister graduated from Tpvas A h I at Klnesville. Tex as and had been teaching for 10 years. Mrs. McAllister attend ed Mary-Hardin University at Belton, Texas. Trees and mountains are what attracted them to the north west They both enjoy outdoor sports, camping, water skiing and photography. They are al so stamp collectors. Mrs. McAl lister enjoys singing. Mr. McAllister went through college working in a florist shop. Garden Club Program This Monday he will give the program at 8 p.m. for the Hepp ner Garden Club at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heard. He will show slides of class work done In a Decorator School in Texas and demonstrates ar rangements using flowers and weeds from local gardens. Members are asked to bring a friend with them to the meeting. VI, "This U owl bait", a Jewel ed firefly. Esther Bergs trom and Mildred Padberg were hostesses for the evening. June 19 There were visitors from four lodges present for the June 19 meeting of Sans Souci Rebekah Lodge. They were from Bunch grass, lone, Canyon City No. 6, Holly, Lexington and Sunbeam Hermlston. The new District Dep uty, Ruth Robinson of Lexing ton was introduced. Teresa Wright was initiated with the help of the Hermlston initiatnrv tnm. This was fol lowed by a presentation from the drill team. The Good Will Harvest tour date is Oct 12. He drained out the gas, welded a place, fastened the tanK dbck on and filled up the tank and away we went in about an hours time. Well Friday evening we were on our way to lone for the Fire works when this blue Rambler we're now driving dropped the mntrinr This wns a new one just recently installed. We final ly found sometning to lie u up to keep it from dragging . . . but oh the noise! We really didn"t need any fireworks . . . and Charlies Navy language came out kinda loud too! The Grand Exalter Ruler for Oregon received his license plate as a gift from his Corvallls lodge. His license plate reads, "Elk 1". Now I can start thinking of what six letters we'd use IK we ever thought of getting those $a5 plateal Vacationing Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith re turned Monday from a 10-day vacation taken while the mill was shut down. They esMll ly enjoyed their tour through Salt Lake City where Glenn had spent some time as a boy. They loved the view of the city and the mountains from tho top of the Capitol Building as well s the landscaping around the l.DS buildings. They went on to Elko. Nev., to do some gambling anil whHe there enjoyed the Nation al Basque Festival. They came back to visit relatives ut r.m- mett. Idaho, and Baker and tn-lon.
