To Summer School It has been announced that two Heppner High teachers re ceived grants and will be away Royal Arch Masons Grand Chapter Meet Local members of the grand family of officers of Royal Arch - Masons of Oregon were in Port land April 15 for the 109th an nual convocation of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Oregon. Paul Jones of Heppner, Most Excellent Grand High Priest, presided over Grand Chapter. Appointive officers o f the Grand Chapter from Heppner in cluded Harold Becket, district deputy of District No. 2; Her man Winter, Grand Orator, and Howard Bryant, Grand Sentinel. A former Heppnerite, Oliver Creswick was appointed and in stalled Grand Musician. The Grand Convocation was also attended by Clarence Bak er, Past High Priest of Heppner Chapter. Excellent Grand High Priest Jones and District Deputy Beck et were accompanied by their wives who with wives of other grand officers assisted in enter taining the other wives and with decorating the dining room for the dinner after the close of Grand Chapter. They were also assisted by Mrs. Creswick. Paul Jones was succeeded in the Grand office by George Driskell, La Grande. The Jones' went from Portland to Seattle to spend the weekend with their daughter, Sandra, and her fam ily. Thye returned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Becket visited the Merle Beckets and J. W. (Bill) Beckets and Mr. Becket's daughter, Carol on Thursday, returning home that evening. On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Har niH Rwket were among those crossing the snowy Blue Mts. to La Grande. He reports they were not warned of the situation un til ascending Emigrant Hill, finding themselves in 6 in. of snow on the road where they were not able to turn back. Af ter putting on chains, they went on through a blizzard to the Grand Ronde without too much difficulty but saw many cars off the road in snowbanks, one a cross the guard rail. Road was fairly clear on the afternoon re turn trip. to summer school. Pat Cassidy received a Na tional Science Foundation Sum mer Institute grant of $645 in Biology and Ecology. She will attend a 7 week session at So noma State College in Rohnert Park, Cal. She has taught two years here. St. Helens is her home town. She graduated at Willamette U. in biology in '68 and attended OSU last summer. She hopes to apply this sum mer's work toward her Mas ter's degree. Rachel Dick Rachel Dick will attend Sa vannah State College, Savanna, Ga. for two weeks on a Journa lism Fund Inc. grant. This is her second grant from this Fund. Last summer she attended a photojournalism session at Tex as Tech. . Mrs. Dick will combine busi ness with pleasure on her trip south. She plans to drive to Sheridan, Wyo. with her mother Mrs. B.C. Forsythe of Ryderwood Wn. Her brother, Lt. Col. John A. Forsythe will meet her there or she will fly to meet him at St. Louis. He is stationed at Scott AFB. They will drive to gether to Savannah. On the return trip she will fly to Sheridan and meet her hus band Aug. 10 and drive home to gether. In Wyoming they will attend a small Kirby family re union. Her mother spends time each year at Story, near Sheri dan. Relatives from Wyoming, Montana and Texas hope to be at the reunion. Charlie Pointer and Jim Healy. John Hall and Charlie Tointer will run In the finals on April 24. There were six running for president in the ASB elections. They were Bruce Marquardt, Valerie Boyer, Dan Sweeney, John Currln, Dallas Harsin ana Rick Boyce. Dan Sweeney and John Currin were the winners of the primary and will be in tne finals April 24'. Running for secretray in the ASB election were Becky Doher- ty, Diane Cutsforth and Kiene Boyajian. Taking the primary ty, Diane Cutsforth and Aiene Tinvniinn. There were only two running for assistant treasurer. They were Earbara Allstott and Jeanne Daly. Barbara Allstott won and there will be no vote on this position in the final elec tion. For the Sgt. at Arms position Kathleen Ayres, Bob Ployhar, Dwain Steers and Carl King were the candidates. Kathleen Ayres and Bob Ployhar will be on the ballot for the final elec tion. Jill Rugg was elected busi ness manager on a write-in. First Aid Course Draws Large Class The standard First Aid course that began a series of Icmohs on March 31 will be completed Anril 2S.
