Krrett Is a professor at Portland State College and Mad eline works as a secretary in the office of the Beaverton School District. He came to lone in 1923- 24 and attended school here, as his mother, Mrs. Blanche Hum mcl was teaching here in the Trade school at that time. (Mrs, Hummel passed away 2 years ago.) Krrett also attended school in Hardman and Boarciman. Shortly after he and Madel ine were married he came back to lone as principal from 1037 to 1942. Errelt Jr., was born in lone. He is married, has 3 child ren, and lives in Portland. He has his degree in medicine, and is now doing his residency at the Oregon Medical School to specialize in neuro surgery Krrett enlisted in the Navy and served as an officer during World War II. After his return their daughter Susan was born at Burns. Susan, now Mrs. John Kilby has one child, and lives at Beaverton She works as secretary in one of the Beaver ton schools, and her husband works In a nursery. Notice This is an appeal to people who have lived In lone at one time, whether you were raised here or lived here a few years, and it doesn t matter how long, I would like to add to my col umn about you so we in lone would know what you are doing, and about your family. James' Have Son Mr. and Mrs. Darrel James are the proud parents of a 9 lb., 1 oz. boy, born March 18 at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermiston. The young man has been named Joel Allan, and joins an older brother Jeffrey. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hendrlckson of Granger, wn and Mr. and Mrs. Orville James of Seattle, Wn. Mr. and Mrs, Hendrlckson arrived Sun day to spend a few days help ing to take care of the young man. Mrs. vera Kietmann spent several days last week visiting Mr. ana Mrs. Victor Peterson in The Dalles. While there Mrs Kietmann and Mrs. Peterson drove into Portland to attend a concert of Fred Waring and his J'ennsyivanians. Coming Events: There will be a card party held at the Willows Grange hail March 27 at 8:00 p.m. Refresh ments will be served and both pedro and pinochle will be play ed. Open to the public and charge will be by donations. Community Good Friday serv ice win be held at Hope Luth eran Church in Heppner, 2:00 4: 30 p.m., sponsored by the South Morrow County Minister ial Association. The Women's Fellowship meeting has been changed from Thursday, March 2G, to March 31, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Frederick Martin with potluck lunch. Jne lone extension meeting will be held at Willows Grange nan March 30 at 10:00 a.m. with a sack lunch at noon. Airs. Nor man Clow of Heppner will dem onstrate the "Use of Small Ap pliances. Everyone is cordially Invited. The lone School Band Concert scheduled for March 31, has been changed to April 6. Re member the Band Festival at Hermiston, April 3 and 4. In dividual bands will play Friday evening and Saturday evening will be the mass band. A lot of time and work goes into this festival and both evenings are enjoyable. H. Marick had the misfortune Friday to upset a pot of hot coffee, scalding her back severely. Lynn Bowman Honored On Sunday afternoon, the Henry Krebs home was the scene of a bridal shower held in honor of Miss Lynn Bowman. About 30 women from the lone school system and Valby Lutheran church were in attendance. Miss Bowman was assisted in open ing the gifts by her mother, Mrs. Betty Bowman, and her grand mother, Mrs. Laura Switzer, both from North Dakota. A large cake decorated in pink and white roses centered the ta ble surrounded by pink and white decorations. Mrs. Betty Bowman presided at the punch bowl and Mrs. Laura Switzer poured the coffee. Mrs. Rudy Bergstrom and Mrs. Edward Hiemstra cut and served the cake. Hostesses were Mrs. Robert Rictmann, Mrs. Louis CarLson, Mrs. Darrel Wilson, Mrs. Paul Tews and Mrs. Henry Krebs. Mrs. Pat Hammond spent the weekend at the home of her father, Delbert Emert. Kelly and Earl Hammond returned home with her after visiting a week with their grandfather. Dick Ekstrom from Albanv. Calif., stopped by to see his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Eks trom, Sr. He was on his way home from a business triD to Seattle, Wn. On Sundav thev took him to Portland to catch a plane home. Mr .and Mrs. Dennis McKay and daughter spent spring va cation at the Oregon coast. Jody Snow Named to Court On Sunday, the Arlington Saddle Club held tryouts for Ar lington Rodeo queen and a play day. Those chosen for the court were Kathy Dill, Condon; Sher- rie Brooks, Arlington; and Jo- dene Snow, lone. On Saturday evening at the annual dinner of the Saddle Club at the Vill age Inn in Arlington, Marianne Pettyjohn, 1969 queen will crown one of these girls as the 1970 queen. In the playday events Neil Snow won 1st in western pleas ure, 2nd in pole bending, and 2nd in keyhole race for the grade school division. In the adult division, Jody Snow won 3rd for western pleasure; 2nd in matched pairs; 3rd in pole bend ing. Marianne Pettyjohn won 1st in both pole bending and barrel race for the high school division. At the morning service of the lone United Church of Christ on Palm Sunday, the Sacrament of Baptism was conducted for Deena Diane Hams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hams Gary Rea, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Rea; and Mark Vaughan Luedde, son of Rev. and Mrs. F. W. Luedde, Jr. Fete Lybecker is here spend ing spring vacation with his unc le and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Garry Tullis. Pete who formerly taught in Pendleton is working on his masters. He has signed a con tract to teach in Beaverton next year. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lake of Salem and Mr. and Mrs. Don ald Lake and family of Vashon Island, Wn. Kenneth Lake was born Feb. 20. 1909 at Albany, the son of Harvey Lake and Mary MeClaln Lake. He graduated from On tarlo High School and attended Linfield College. He had worked on the Southern Pacific at Sac ramento since 1942. His wife pre ceded him in death in 1955. He is survived by his brothers and sisters, a number of nieces and nephews. Census Questionnaire In Mail Saturday PoMal patrons are reminded that on Saturday. The Choraleites will sing. All parents and friends are invited. Morrow County Empire Build ers hnd a visit from the Crook County Empire Builders last weekend. They watched spring wheat operations at the Norman Nelson ranch, the potato plant ing and operations at the D. O. Nelsons and surveyed the beef operations at the Ken Turners on Sand Hollow. They stayed overnight with members of the Empire Build ers. Leaders were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kerr. The Mor row County Empire Builders ex pect to return the visit later this spring. NO FIRE DAMAGE A flue fire broke out Monday evening at supper time at the Tom Howell home on Sperry Street.
