HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES. Thursday, March 5. 1970 lone Tallies Four New Arrivals IONB Rev. and Mrs. F. W Luedde, Jr., are the parents of n 5 lb., 8 oz. boy born In Pen dleton on Feb. 24. The young man has been named Mark Vauchan and Joins an older brother, Colt. Grandparents arc Mr. and Mrs. George Bradbury and Dr. and Mrs. F. W. Luedde, Sr., of St. Lou I., Mo. Mrs. Brad bury arrived here Wednesday evening for a visit and to help with the children. Colt Luedde stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rietmann and family while his mother was In the hospital. Mrs. Lloyd Morgan returned home this week after having spent some time at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Paavola at Scappoose. She was helping take care of a new granddughter born Feb. 18. The young miss weighed 8 lb., 13 oz., and has been named Krista Marie. She Is the second daughter of the Ta a vol as. Word has been received of the birth of a 9 lb., 6 oz. boy to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Thompson on Feb. 21. He Joins a sister, Kimmy, and has been named Corey Lance. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Erling Thompson of McMinnville, formerly of lone. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson own a hobby shop In McMinnville and recently have added an antique corner. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lancaster (Evelyn Marick) are the par ents of a 6 lb., 11 oz. son born March 2, at the Good Shepherd Hospital in Hermi.ston. The young man has been named Gene Lowell Lancaster, Jr. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Marick. Visiting over the Washington Birthday weekend at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree, were Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Meyers of Portland, and Scott Crabtree of Lexington. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Halvorsen of Medford spent last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvorsen. Luedde, Jr. spent several days week before last in St. Louis. Mo on business and visiting with his parents. Mrs. Milton Morgan spent last week In Portland at the horn of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Peek. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Riet mann and family, Bill Fletch ner. Don Bristow and the Rev Mike Luedde. Mrs. Roy VV. Llndstrom re turned home from Portland last Friday, after having surgery and from all reports Is recuper ating nicely. The Beta Omega Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Internat lonal Sorority held their annua social hour and crab feed, Wed nesday evening at the American Legion Hall for members and their guests. Confirmation Services Held Confirmation services were held at St. Patrick's Church Heppner Wednesday evening for the members of the churches in this area. Bishop Francis Leip zig from Baker confirmed the following from St. William's Church in lone; Peter, Joe, Charles. Mary Pat, and Gather lne McEllieott. and Kent, Kev in, Kim, and Chris Gutierrez. The St. William's Altar Soci ety held their regular meeting Feb. 24 at the home of Mrs. Gar land Swanson. The annual meeting and din ner of the stockholders of Jor dan Elevator was held at the Masonic Hall last Friday eve ning with approximately 25 members in attendance. After the dinner a film through the courtesy of the Union Pacific was shown on raising potatoes. The mothers of the kindergart en pupils prepared and served the banquet dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid and family spent the weekend in Portland. Lindsay goes to Portland once a month as he is participating in a Cerrebral Vas cular Study conducted by the University of Oregon Medical School. They also attended the trailer show. Mr. and Mrs. Berl Akers at tended the Lane County Porno na Grange meeting at Junction City last Saturday. Chuck Nelson, Tom Me Elligott and Earl James Petty John were home from OSU Wayne Hams entertained Saturday evening with a sur prise birthday party in honor of his wife Dlanna. Guests at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Tom White, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Padberg, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Jr. See Macbeth The members of the lone High School attended a showing of Macbeth Friday afternoon at La Grande. The performance was put on by traveling Shakes pearean riayers. leacners ac companying the group were Miss Bowman, Mrs. Dennis Mc Kay, Bill Fletchner, Darreli imes, Gene Dockter, and Gor on Meyers. The basketball coaches and a few of the JV players left early for Echo to start the basketball game with the buses following shortly af- rwards. Season Ends Friday and Saturday night games ended the basketball season for the lone Cardinals. Friday night at Echo, they de feated the lone JV's 60 to 67, and the varsity team 69 to 55. Sat urday evening was a different story with the lone JV's defeat ing the Heppner JV's 60 to 53, and the varsity team defeating Helix 58 to 43. The lone Kindergarten classes started March 2, with Mrs. Helen McCabe as teacher. There are 14 pre-schoolers In this group. The United Church of Christ is having confirmation instruc tion for high school students on Wednesday evenings at 6:30. Anyone interested and not in the class may contact Rev. Luedde. Also on Thursday eve ning a very short Lenten De votion is held at 7:15. A Len ten study is held Sunday eve ning at 8 o'clock. The Home Economics classes I and II, under the direction of Miss Bowman, entertained the members of the advisory board and their spouses with a "Poly nesian" theme banquet, March 2. This has been an annual af fair the last few years. Those invited were Mr. and Mrs. Hen ry Krcbs, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Rietmann, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Rietmann, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Carlson, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones of Lexington, Mr. and Mrs. Don McElligott, and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Daniels of Boardman. Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin were in tne Portland area ove the weekend. Mr. Martin attend ed several church conference meetings and Mrs. Martin at tended the Women's State Fel lowship meeting. On Sunday 19 members of the family gathered at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Horton in Dallas, in honor of her father's birth day. All four of Mr. Horton's children were present as well as grandchildren and great grand children. To become a member a student must have a 3.00 CPA for three consecutive semesters and be voted in by a faculty committee, Mrs. Hope Temple Is advisor. New members are Craig Cutting. Sue Jepsen, Ron Sher man, Bruce Marquardt, Gwcn Drake, Dee Ann Pettyjohn, Bob Worden, Barbara Allstott, Jeanne Daly, Charlie Pointer, Jill Rugg and Shelley Wolff. Families of members and faculty attended. The Willows Grange will host a school of instruction March 7. Registration from 1:30 to 2:00 p. m. will be followed by an af ternoon meeting. There will be a potluck supper at 6:00 p.m., followed by a meeting in the evening. All grangers are invit ed to attend. The lone High School girls' basketball team will play at Pilot Rock March 5 and on March 11, at lone, at 4:00 p.m. The lone Garden Club will meet at the home of Mrs. Fred erick Martin on March 11. The theme will be "Planting to Please" and is a study of land scaping. Anyone not belonging to the Garden Club who would like to attend this meeting is cordially invited. Mrs. Martin would appreciate a call, so plans can be made. The lone PTA will meet on March 12. The program will con sist of a film on the use of drugs in Oregon, produced by KOIN, and is called "Buy Bye World". Main St. Tel. 676-9254 North Lexington Livestock 4-H Club met at the home of Lori Rhea Feb. 7. The members gave reports on identifying 5 breeds of beef cattle, sheep and swine. Four-H demonstrations were discussed. Next meeting will be at the home of Chris Rauch March 7. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Rhea. Mr. and Mrs. Vic Groshen were misled by Friday's sun shine and decided to try an ear ly camping and fishing trip on the John Day at Kimberly. Sat urday brought 9" of snow on the river and they had some thing of a struggle getting their camper up on the highway. Vic says he fished about 15 minutes but it was too cold.
