Ag Income Up 9
Over 1968
In Morrow County
Harold K. Kerr, County Ex
tension agent has completed
the 1968 Ag Income picture for
Morrow County. The total In
come is up 9 over last year
and is estimated to be $11,100,-
000. This is compared to a very
poor crop year in 19(8. Yields
of wheat and barley were up,
but were offset by lower prices
and more importantly by high
er costs.
Cattle prices were up but
were offset mostly by lower
calving percentages and lighter
weaning weights. Wheat is the
largest Income producing com
modity at 3.3 million dollars
followed closely by beef at 2.8
million.
The Increased income to the
farmer was more than offset by
rising costs. Figures released by
OSU show that costs have in
creased 36 since 1959 while
income has increased only 22
for Oregon farmers.
