The machine will be set up by a company representative this week. Addlt Ion of the eaulDment is expect ed by Mrs. Rodgers to greatly facilitate the preparation of bul letins for teachers and school boards. Possession of the merchandise of the Fair Store, owned by M. H. Kopple, was taken by C. J. D Buaman, Morrow County sheriff, on Wednesday, to satisfy a de llnauent personal tax of $123.01 owed by Kopple. An invoice of the goods has been taken and the stock will be offered for sale to the highest bidders by the sheriff at the store on Satur day, December 28, at 10 a.m. Merchandise to the amount of the delinquent tax, only, will be sold. M. H. Kopple, who has been In business In Heppner for the past several years, left the city on the Tuesday evening train Bells, Bells, Bells Through the ages, bells have served many purposes announ cing the approach of vehicles, for instance or signaling the beginning of curfew. An early custom was the toll ing of church bells on Christ mas Eve during the hour be fore midnight. The tolling an nounced the death of satan and at midnight Joyous peals told of the birth of Christ. In England, where bell-ringing Is an honored, family taught art, the tuneful bells ring out at seven-thirty on Christmas morning. A. M. Installs Officers Officers of Heppner Chapter No. 26 R.A.M. enjoyed the dis tinguished honor of being In stalled by Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Paul Jones on Tuesday evening, Dec. 16. This is the first time In Chapter his tory that officers were installed by a Grand High Priest, and may never happen again. Elective officers installed lor the ensuing year are as follows: Excellent High Priest, How ard Bryant; King, Ryan Stein ke; Scribe, Louis Rucker; Secre tary, Larry Cook; Captain of Host, George Simonson; Princi pal SoJ., Cecil Rill; Royal Arch Capt., John Wood; Master of 3rd VeiL Don Gilliam; Master of 2nd Veil, Jerry Phillips; Master of 1st Veil, Hubert Wilson; Sen- inel, Herman Winter and Chap- ain, Clarence Baker. This installation was held Jointly with Heppner Lodge No. 09 AF & AM. All Brethren and Companions enjoyed refresh ments after the ceremonies. Jack Sumner Shows Farm Pics Jack Sumner showed pictures of farms and farm operations he took while on tour of the mid-south and south last sum mer at Rhea Creek Grange Fri day evening. There were pic tures of test plots of millet, al falfa, cotton, soy beans, all money-making crops in that area. There were feed lo's with 320 acres of beef and huge dairy operations. The pictures followed a sump tuous potluck supper hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Palmer. For Kissing Of Wreaths Using wreaths as decorations at Christmas may be traced to the customs of Advent season, the four Sundays before Christ mas a time of preparation for the coming of the Christ Child. Traditionally, the Advent wreath Is made of evergreen branches interlaced with red ribbons. It holds four candles. One candle is lit at dusk on the first Sunday before Christ mas. The wreath may be placed on a door, set on a table or hung from the celling. Secular and religious Christ mas customs met in the old English "kissing ball". This evergreen ball had mistletoe for kissing hung from the center. But it also contained small dolls to represent Jesus, Mary and Joseph as well as an array of fruits and colorful ornaments. Stuart Dick and Erin Dick ax both home for the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dick. Both have been at EOC. Stuart expects to transfer to Oregon State next term and will do his practice teaching at Albany. Erin who attended BMCC for two years Is Interested In a PE. Math major in education. Christmas dinner will be en Joyed, at the home of Mrs. Jos ephine Flemming and her dau- the day with them will be Mr.' and Mrs. Clayton Sweek, Mike, Dana, Curtis and Sheridan of Heppner, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reynolds, Sandy and Karen of Monument and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Reynolds of Prineville. Mikt Sweek is homo from Ore gon State. He graduated at the end of the fall quarter with a Science major. As his draft number Is 73, he anticipates going Into the service in a few months. He is hoping to find a Job. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Sweek. Ski questionaires may be picked up at the Gazette-Times. Fill out and return to the G-T office. Thinking of My Daddy At Christmas Time (This poem was written by Susie Ployhar, daughter of SFC and Mrs. Darrel G. Ployhar. Her father is in Vietnam this Christ mas. Thinking of my Daddy at Christmas time My father is in Vietnam, He is not here where I am, I wish he were home, and not so far away, So he could see the baby play, My brother is sad, And, he misses his dad. When daddy is home, he helps with the tree, He wants it Just right for all to see, He is fighting in the war, While my mommy's cleaning the floor, Although we all are far apart, We can still share Christma' In our hearts. Daisy Blechinger Buried in Heppner Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 20 at Heppner Masonic Cemetery for Daisy Blechinger, 80, who passed away in San Mateo. Calif., on Dec. 17. Rev. Edwin Cutting of the United Methodist Church con ducted the service with Sweeney Mortuary in care of arrange ments. Mrs. Blechinger is survived by one sister, Mrs. Effie Munkers of Heppner. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Springer and Mr. and Mrs. David Spring er and Jamie will take Christ mas with them to be with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Springer, Alona and Billy for Christmas dinner. They had been called to Hood River by the death of his wife's father. Coming In to have lunch with them at Mrs. Drake's home were Grace Drake and Alfred Drake and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Warren. Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Dick of Portland announce the arrival of a daughter born Dec. 14. She has been named Devonna Cher ie. She only weighed 4 lb. 14 a brother Trevor. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Groves of Hemet, Calif., Lavelle Nelson and Kemp Dick of Port land. Great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Pieper of Lexington. F, O. 2c W. W. Weatherford, III, has Informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weatherford, that he has re-enlisted in the Navy for a six-year period.
