Christmas Mall Postmistress June O'Connor announces that mall will be re ceived and placed in the boxes on Sunday, Dec. 14' and Sunday, Dec. 21, but there will be no window service on those days. Due to orders from the regional post office, there will be no Sat urrfav afternoon service In De cember. Letters placed in the letter drop on Saturday after noons will be dispatched on Sunday morning. Masons Give Dinner The lone High School Foot ball team and the male faculty members were honored guests at the Masonic Hall on Dec. 3 for a banquet dinner sponsor ed by the Masons. This ban quet, in honor of the team and coaches, Is given each year. Pre- oaring the lovely dinner were and Rainbow girls served. Master of ceremonies was Herb Ekstrom, who introduced the special guest and speaker, Judge Paul Jones of Heppner. Following the dinner and pro gram, football movies were shown. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Meyers of Portland were weekend guests nt the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Crabtree. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Halvor sen visited over the weekend in Portland at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hershall Townsend. Mr and Mrs. Llndstrom took him to Portland, where he left by plane. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Rhodes nrt familv wnt the weekend at the home of her mother, Mrs Victor Rietmann. while here they were Sunday dinner guests at the home of her brother and familv. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rietmann. Other dinner guests were Mrs. Victor Rietmann, Mrs. Walter Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rietmann and family. A pre birthday celebration was held in honor of Joe Rietmann and Mrs. Victor Rietmann. who hoth celebrate birthdays this week. Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn was ad in Pendleton on Sunday for ml nor surgery. She returned home this week. Mr. and Mrs. John Prizmich of Sunnyvale, Calif., were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Adon Hamlett. Mr. Hamlett and Mr. Prizmich are long time friends but have not visited for over 13 years. Mr. and Mrs. Darrell James and family were recent guests in Seattle at the home of his parents. Rowell Car Rolls on Butter Creek Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rowell and Mrs. Hardy Ring were in volvcd In a one car accident on Buttercreek this past Thurs day. Mr. Rowell lost control of his auto when he hit an Icy spot in the road, rolling the car, which righted itseii. Mr. Rowell suffered minor bruises, but Mrs. Rowell received a bro ken arm and was hospitalized overnight. Mrs. Ring remained In the hospital for several hours for observation because of a mild concussion and she receiv ed chest and hip bruises. The next general meeting of the United Church Youth group will be held Dec. 14 at 7:00 n.m. Christmas Program The Primarv DeDartment Christmas program at the Unit ed Church or enrist win be neid on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 5:00 p.m. A family supper will be held following the program and each family Is asked to bring sand wiches and cookies. Following the dinner a group will go car oling on a hay wagon around town. It Is also announced that there will be no church school classes on Dec. 28, however, there will be a family worship serv ice at 11:00 a.m. During the Advent Observ ances the Sunday school class es will participate on the fol lowing days: Dec. 14 and 21. Rev. Mike Luedde escorted a group of Eastern Oregon youth to the United Presbyterian Youth Assembly in Salem, fol lowing Thanksgiving. Mrs. Henry Krebs and Mrs. Dick McElllgott were hostesses on Tuesday at the Krebs home for a bridal shower in honor of Mrs. Steve Eldridge (the for mer Chris McCabe). Coll 989-8115 nn Jayvees Win First Two Games By FAT KILKENNY Playing as polished ball as a mid-season team, the Heppner JV hoopsters chalked up two victories in their first two starts. In Friday night action they trip ped Grant Union 53-41; In their Saturday night encounter the Colts tamed Enterprise 59-44. In their season opener, both Heppner and Grant played re markably well, for their first start, both teams making few errors and playing a lot of pol ished basketball. Trailing only in the first quarter, the Colts managed to pull ahead of their foes from John Day In the second quar ter. They kept their lead for the rest of the eame. In their second night's encoun ter, with Enterprise, the game started slow. Heppner trailed at the first stop 9-4. But Coach Hiemstra's crew really started humming in the second period, scoring 15 tallies against the Savages' 6. At half time the score stood Heppner 19, Enterprise 15. As the night before, Heppner locked the game up in the third frame, pulling ahead of Enter prise 43-28. In the fourth panel Heppner substituted freely, and kept the substantial lead. He said they have completed core drilling for the proposed Kelly Prairie Lake dam. He said results will be known In a few weeks after engineering studies. Mr. Utt was very pleased with all the cooperation he re ceived here and said "Heppner is wonderful!
