Beverly Gunder son and Herman Winter were named to the Heppner High School road committee. Jim Bier, principal Heppner High School will act as organizer and secretary and work with Supt. Daniels and the committee on the road problem at the Heppner High School, lone Commencement Changed Harold Beggs, principal of lone High School asked to have the lone Commencement exercis es changed to May 23 at 8 p.m. This is so people coming into south Morrow County could at tend both Heppner and lone commencements on the same weekend. Heppner's commence ment has been set for May 24. Riverside commencement is May 22. The OSBA convention was an nounced. It will be held In Port land Nov. 19, 20, 21. Reserva tions have been made for Jack Sumner, Irvin Rauch and Don McEJllgott. The next regular board meet ing will be Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at A. C. Houghton school, Irrl gon. A request to rent a school bus as transportation for a church group out of the county was de nied as the board felt this was in violation of the PUC regula tions. It was suggested the group contact the bus contract ors of Condon or Hermlston whose busses all carry PUC per mits. The board authorized the hir ing of a speech aide on a part time basis to work with a Hepp ner student. Morrow County has contracted all available time of the IED speech therapist. He will train the aide. The cost was estimated at 5400. The meeting adjourned at 9 p.m. for the board to meet with the Professional Economics Com mittee. Sudden Attack Takes Ruth Ott Port of Morrow Says Nuclear Site Ready By MART LEE MARLOW The Port of Morrow Commis sion has agreed to install a rail rH IohH line for use by its tenants and made plans to pre sent their nuclear power plant siting with irrigation proposal to the Oregon Nuclear Develop ment Committee in roruanu Nov. 18. The Oregon Nuclear ue noinnment Committee, which is charged with nuclear site selec tion for the state, lssuea an in irltat nn in the Port of Morrow through Gov. Tom McCalPs of fice. The commission met with Rep. Irvin Mann and the Port of Uma tilla Commission at the city hall last Thursday night to discuss mutual problems and develop ment procedures. The Idea for the mectinc came from Mann, who led the discussion. He told the group that one thing that pould unite the ports would be to talk In terms of the cluster ronceDt. built in Eastern Ore gon or Eastern Washington. The cluster concept Is the only rat ional plan offered. He further slated that from Cold Springs Reservoir to the Deschutes Riv er there are 837,000 acres below the 1,000 foot elevation level, and the potential Is unlimited. Earlier in the day, the Port of Morrow Commission decided the state's Committee on Natur al Resources would be told that the Boardman area as one of the northwest's most Ideal nuclear power producing areas. The Port named its coordinator, Rupert W. Kennedy, to present the lo cal site availability to the com mittee at the Portland meeting. Commissioners Garland Swan son and Oscar Peterson will al so attend the meeting. The Port oresentation will al so declare that among the fea tures favorine a local nuclear fetflmr urn an abundance of wa -tth thp land to use the water, and 200,000 acres of land that has never been tinea. The coolant waters from the nuclear plants would be used for Irrigation. Kennedy plans to tell the committee that the Boardman plain can accommo date a cluster of nuclear plants, and the 50,000 acres of fertile land now used for the Navy's bombing practice range would make an Ideal site for a nu clear duster park. Another point that will be fea tured In the presentation is that the Morrow County people want a nuclear plant. Cube Plant Now Shipping The new railroad track to be installed would serve the I. M. Docken Corp. cubing plant, which is now in operation east of Boardman. The plant is pre paring to make a shipment by rail soon, that will be loaded at the Union Pacific siding in Boardman. A major portion oi th nlnnt's alfalfa cubes will be shipped by barge and calls for dock facilities. Kventuallv the railroad would be extended to serve all the port's industrial park along the waterfront with industries build ing their individual spur lines as they are located in the park. Get Ready to Ski Anyone Interested in skiing, particularly 4-H members and their parents are invited to share in a Skiing Information meeting on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Hepp ner Elementary multi-purpose room. Turkey Hop Dated By Soroptimists At the business meeting of the Soroptimist flub, Nov. 29. the date was set for the third annual Turkev Hop. This provides a time when "high school student and students home from college can get together. The dance will be hM t the Fair Pavilion and music will be by the Western Gentlemen. Lowell Gribble Iniures His Hand Last week while taking soil samples on the V. u. v. ii.n Cribble received a badly cut hand. The handle broke off of the uioe usi-u take the samples and the tube penetrated his hand 14 ".
