DELBERT A. PIPER Executor WINTER AND BALFE Attorneys at Law Heppner, Oregon 24-27p wards personal advancement through apprenticeship and training were lauded by Norman O. Nilsen, State Labor Commis sioner. "By learning a skill, trade or craft by this proven means, they are helping not only themselves but members of their immediate families," he said. They also are assisting in the advancement of Oregon s industry. "In order to meet the needs of the state's expanding econ omy, there must be more per sons apprenticed to learn valu able skills. This includes worn en as well as men," Nilsen em phasized. "There is no reason why there cannot be more women partici pating in apprenticeship and training. Although many of the trades are considered more ap propriate for males, the fact re mains that in many cases, worn en can do a job just as well as men. This was proven by our experience in World War II." During the past year, Mrs. Bennett and Mrs. Duckett com pleted their respective apprent iceship programs and are now full-fledged journeymen. The other three women have var ious requirements to finish be fore they can be graduated, A variety of reasons enduced these women to enter apprent iceship and training for job preparation, Mrs. Bennett decided a class program would be fruitful.
