Mrs. Bill McMinn was the hostess Saturday afternoon for a birthday party for her daughter, Sherl, who was five. The child ren played games, then watch ed Sherl open her gifts after which they all had birthday cake and ice cream. Those at tending were Mark Ashcr, Mike and Marcl Luper, Andrea and Angela Jackson, Robby Conlee, Cindi Bowman, Nannette Carey, and Brenda McMinn. Mrs. John Kenney of Irrigon, who is sectional representative, was in charge of the meeting, while Mrs. Annie Walton of Portland, Oregon district Dresi- dent, was the speaker. It was announced that Mrs. Weslev Bransford of Hermiston is the newly appointed Missionettes Director for this section. The Missionettes are an organization for girls from 9 to 18 vears. A luncheon was served bv the women of the Pendleton church. Women of the community gave a dinner tor out-of-town friends and relatives of the Frank Fredrickson family, who were here to attend his funeral Wednesday. AdHI 30. The fun- eral was at Burns Mortuary, with interment at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemeterv. Irricon. There were over 75 people at the dinner, which was served at the Lions Club building. The Fredrickson family were resi dents of Irrigon for many years before moving to Hermiston and later to Stanfield. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Coy and Mrs. Reese Morgan returned from Portland last Saturday, af ter spending two days there. Mr. and Mrs. Coy visited their dau ghter, Clara Fay, while Mrs. Morgan returned to the hospital for a checkup, after recent sur gery. Mrs. Morgan also visited her daughter, Mrs. John Ankers. Mr. and Mrs. Pantelis Vron- takis and Jeffrey of Salem were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Warner. They trav eled together to Emmigrant Springs Park, and had dinner at a restaurant to celebrate Mrs. Warner's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Tavlor and Mr. and Mrs. Don Tavlor were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith. The Taylors were returning to their home in Idaho from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Taylor, at San Bernardino, Calif. Ted Smith, chairman of the local Salvation Army Service Unit, announces that the offic ial kickoff of the annual cam paign will be on May 19. Let ters will be sent to the Army's many friends requesting their annual contribution. A prompt response to the mail will save much time and expense and will avoid the necessity of per sonal contact. Response to this appeal is nec essary to maintain all the serv ices provided through the Sal vation Army Service Unit, Smith stated. Requests for food, shel ter, clothing and other emergen cy needs are given quick re sponse in keeping with sound welfare practices. The community can be proud of its local volunteer committee. It is the channel through which a total of 23 different Salvation Army services are made avail able. These include, in addition to the local welfare, camper- ships, aid to unwed mothers, as sistance to parolees, alcoholic rehabilitation, emergency care and many other humanitarian services. The local committee responsi ble of the administration of aid and funds include Bill Siewert, treasurer, and Rev. Melvin Dix on. Last year the committee pro vided assistance for some 21 persons at a cost of $77.12. Contributions should be mail ed to Bill Siewert, Bank of Eastern Oregon, Heppner, Ore gon, committee treasurer. By FRANCES ROSE WILSON IRRIGON Michael McCoy, U. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs, Warren McCoy, has been assign ed to the USS Iwo Jima, a flat too ship going to Vietnam. McCoy was home recently for a 20-day leave, Twenty-five friends and relatives gave him a farewell birthday dinner, Among the guests were his un cle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Chase McCoy, of Long Beach, cam. Pfc. Boll Trains In Radio Operation Army Pfc. Gary Ball, son ot Mr. and Mrs. Leon Ball, has been extended an additional five weeks period of specialized training in radio operation at Ft. Gordon, Ga., where he has been stationed since early Jan uary. He is engaged in critical M.O.S. training, learning to op erate radio circuits in vans. He is expected to arrive home for a visit with his parents sometime this month prior to reporting for reassignment. Mrs. Eleanor Gonty and Mrs. Llaine George returned on Mon day, May 5, from the annual Soroptimist Northwest Regional convention, held this year in Coos Bay from Friday through Sunday, May 2-4. In Portland they spent a short time visiting Mrs. Gonty's sister, Mrs. Bernie Altishin, and Mr. and Mrs. Os car Borg, an uncle and aunt of Mrs. George, On the return trip Mrs. Gonty stopped in Beaver- ton to visit with her mother, Mrs. C. F. Hemrich. Bob Abrams attended a ser ies of meetings in Salem and Eugene last Friday, where he was representative to a junior college meeting and also at tended a subcommittee meeting of the minor courts commission. A program of spe cial music was presented by the youtn choir and a solo by Miss Donna Pummel. Mrs. Floyd Hobbs gave a reading for moth ers. Pastor John Kenney spoke on th e subject of "Christian Motherhood". Lloyd Franke made a trip to Ojai, Calif., to drive his brothers-in-law car down for him. His brother-in-law, Frank Stevens, was on his way here to visit the Franke family when he had a heart attack and had to be ta ken to the hospital at Bend. La ter he was taken to his home at Ojal, Calif., by plane. The Franke's daughter, Shar on. Is in Germany, at this time Thursday sponsored by 4-H nar. Jtoiier Rink, with her serviceman husband, James Hoffman, who Is in the Army. They will return home soon with their 9-months-old son. Mr. and Mrs. Warren McCoy attended Mother's week-end at Oregon State University. Corval lis, where their daughter, Susan, is a student. Airs. McCoy enjoy ed the style show and the 5th Dimension musical group, while Mr. McCoy went to a baseball game and attended the Oregon Track Meet, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stewart visited Mrs. Stewart's brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Reeder, in Portland. His mother, Mrs. Ellen Reeder, of Irrigon is visiting there this week. The Duane Reeder family plan to move to California soon.
