Michael will receive an hon orary one-year subscription to The Reader's Digest in any one of its 13 language editions which he chooses, and a person al certificate from the editors "in recognition of past accomp lishments and in anticipation of unusual achievement to come." The award to Michael, who is the son of Mrs. Albert Partlow of Boardman, was made possible through the cooperation of Mr. Paltoso and his teaching staff. They selected Michael to receive the award, designed to stimu late scholarship, citizenship, and continued contact with good reading after graduation. There were four tables of pi nochle in play at the card party held Tuesday of last week at the Greenfield Grange hall. sponsored by the Women's Ac tivity Committee of the grange. Mrs. Walter Hayes was hostess. High prize went to Mrs. Nina Bailey of Arlington, and low was won by Mrs. Walter Wyss. Mrs. Chub Warren and Mrs. Dewey West won the traveling pinochle prizes. May 6 was to be the last card party this season. At that time the season prizes were to be given for the highest score and the second highest. Four members of the Good News Singers, a Christian folk 65th Anniversary Of Holly Lodge Observed Sunday Sy DELPHA JONES LEXINGTON Members of Holly Rebekah Lodge No. 139 held a reception at the hall on Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., in observance of its 65th Anniversary. The lodge was or ganized in May, 1904. The program was opened with a prayer by the Rev. Earl Sow ard. A short history of the lodge was given by Mrs. Delpha Jones, secretary. Honorable mention was given Trannie Parker, 65 year member; Annie Keene, 62 year member; Maude Pointer, 60-year member; Cora Warner, 51 -year member, and Lou Broad ley, 49-year member. Musical numbers were provid ed by the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Marquardt, the Carl Marquardt family; Norita Mar quardt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Bill Marquardt, and the Bill B, Marquardt family. Each Holly member introduc ed herself and her family, anc where they were from. Violin solos were provided by Mrs. Ken neth Smouse of lone, accompa nied by Mrs. Carl Marquardt, after which group singing was enjoyed. Mrs. Catie Padberg was in charge of the guest book. Refreshments were served from a lace-covered table, cen tered with a sheet cake decor ated with pink roses and green lettering. Tea and coffee were served by Mrs. LaVerne Hender son; Mrs. Bill Smethurst served the cake, and punch was poured from a crystal bowl by Mrs Clarence Otzenberger. Out-of-town visitors included Isabella Raymond and Agnes Butterfield of Dixie, Wn.; Mrs Maxine Jensen of Waitsburg Wn., Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Otzen berger of Stanfield; Mrs. Bill Smethurst of Ukiah; Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Irvin and children of Hood River, and visitors from Sans Souci Rebekah lodge, Heppner, and Bunchgrass Lodge in lone. There were about 75 people present. Mrs. John Edwards, Mrs. Joe Yocom and Mrs. Morris McCarl were Portland visitors one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Steagall traveled to Pendleton on Sun day to visit at the Bill Steagall and Roger Brandhagen homes Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steagall were visiting in Sherman coun ty on Saturday. They includ ed Dick Struckmeier. playing the bass viol, Kathy Connolly and Bruce Carpenter, guitars, and Dwight Woodruff, tambour ines. They are part of a group of 32 singers which will present a program at the Roosevelt High school in Portland May 17. The four young people were week end guests at the home of Struck meier's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Struckmeier. Other visitors there were the Struck meier's son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Weiher and sons, Gary and Todd, of Salem. Robert Chilman, music in structor at Riverside High school took four of his students to Pa cific University at Forest Grove during the week-end where they sang and played at a concert there.
