This included Dewey West, mayor, and Vernon Russell, Zearl Gil lespie, and Cecil Hicks as coun cil men. Rep. Mrs. Hazel Miller was elected to a term of three years as dir ector on the board of the Board man Rivervlew Cemetery Asso ciation at an election held last week. The annual Mystery Sister party was held Wednesday of last week at the Boardman Community church with the La dies Aid Society as hosts. Mem fcrrs of the Women's Activity Committee of Greenfield Grance were guests. In charge of the procram was Mrs. Hazel Miller. Assisting were Mrs. Seth Rus sell. Mrs. Leo Root and Mrs. Ralph Earwood. Mrs. Rollin Bishop was in charge of the gifts. Mystery Sisters were re vealed with exchange of gifts and new names drawn for next year. Ihe program included group singing of Christmas carols, reading of the Christmas stoiy from the Gospel of Luke, Mrs, Frank Marlow; duet, "Silent Night", Mrs. Bishop and Mrs. George Neeley; reading, "Fall Wardrobe", Mrs. Arthur Allen; solo. "God Is There", Rev. George Neeley; solo, "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem", Mrs. Wayne Kuhn Eddie Motter, blind gymnast, presented a program at a Nat ional School Assembly at River side High school December 13 at 8:30 a.m. He came highly rec ommended by Cecil B. Hoilings worth, supervisor of physical ed ucation at the University of Cal ifornia at Los Angeles. He has ranked among the top three Pa cific Coast Conference gymnasts and has gained national recog nition. Judges, spectators and fellow gvmnasts were amazed by the difficult feats of skill and power executed by him with professional finesse. He has per fected a hand balancing pro gram which he has used for some years in the entertainment field. Mrs. Leo Root was honored with a surprise birthday party at her home. Present were Mrs. Roy Ball, Mrs. Glen Carpenter, Ms. Zearl Gillespie, Mrs. Ralph Earwood and Mrs. Frank Mar- low. 1 Okla., have returned home from a two month's trip visiting rel atives. Thev went first to Codv, Wvo where they visited the men's sister, Thelma Skinner, then to Denver. Colo., to visit an aunt. I'earl Delehoy, and oth er relatives. They came home through California by way of Ihe Redwood High wav. Holiday visitors at the Potts home were their son In hiw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Houston and children Leo. Ar lene. Donald and Sharon of La Grande. They all went to spend Thanksgiving at the home of Mr. anil Mrs. Howard Bundy In Richland. Wash. The Potts then went to The Dalles lo visit cous- ns, Mr. and Mrs. Dayne Coch enour and Mr. and Mrs. George Ramsey. Oliver Potts left last week for his home In Oklahoma Cltv. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Carpenter and sons Russell and Tommy of Pendleton were Sunday visitors at the home of Mrs. Carpenter's mother, Mrs. Hazel Miller. Mrs. Everett Struckmeler took her mother. Mrs. Vera Pettit, to Portland Saturday to take the plane to Livermore, Calif., where she will spend several months at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cobb. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rash and daughter Diane went to Lake Oswego Sunday to visit at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Rash. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kuhn have returned home from a two weeks trip to Arizona, where they were called by the illness of Mrs. Kuhn's father, Frank Wooten, 92, who was in the hospital at Wilcox, Ariz. He had improved enough to go home before they left. They also visited Mrs. Kuhn's brother, Joe Wooten, at Wilcox, and her sister, Rosa Far- rell at Fort Huahuca, Ariz., also their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kuhn, Jr., at Tuscon. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Pieper and children Don, Pat and Dan of Portland visited over the holi days at the home of Mrs. Piep er's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Wyss. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Potts, ac companied by Potts' brother, Oliver Potts of Oklahoma City, Lexington Seaman In Fleet Exercise Gunners Mate Seaman Mi chael J. Burcham, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph J. Burcham of Lexington, participated in operation "Beef Trust" aboard the destroyer USS Rogers off the coast of Southern California. The last major First Fleet ex ercise of the year, the eight-day exercise involved 28 ships and 31 air squadrons, including four Canadian units. Designed to prepare U. S. un its for the conditions encount ered in Southeast Asia and throughout the Western Pacific, the exercise consisted of mis sile firing exercises , bombing practice, close air support and anti-sutmarine warfare. Cruisers and destroyers fired their guns at the San Clemente Island Range and at a target hull the ex-USS Jesse Ruther ford, while guided missile ships tested their batteries against dmne aerial targets in the Pa cific Missile Range. Carrier and land based air craft flew strikes against the San Clemente Island Range, while the entire task force guarded against two U. S. sub marines playing aggressors. These awards were from the Presidents Council on Physical Filness and Sport and were awarded in rec ognition of "Outstanding phys ical ac hievement and exception al dedication to the Ideal of a sound mind In a sound body." Robert Rich arils was presented Ihe award for the second year. Arley Hamilton, Donald Russcl, Dannv Shoemuke and Jerry Zicllnskl received awards for the first time. Thev expect to build a home on the site at a future date. Bvron Hobbs moved to Port land recently, where he is em ployed as a welder at Gunder- sons. He is presently making his home with the Roscoe Cook family. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Dexter of Portland are parents of a son born November 30. He was nam ed William Burton Dexter. Ho is the great-grandson of Mrs. Sedalia Dexter of Umatilla and the late William Burton Dexter. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Vallis Dexter of La Grande. They were former residents of Irngon. North Morrow County 4-H leaders met at the Don Leigh ton home recently. Gail McCar ty. Morrow county extension agent, Introduced Mrs. Birdine Tullis who will be assisting with 4-H Club work in the coun ty. Don Leighton announced that the Livestock 4-H club is sell ing raffle tickets to raise funds. First prize will be a Shetland pony, second prize a turkey and third prize, a fruit cake. The Hawaiian Luau dinner was well attended at the A. C. Houghton Cafetorium on Decem ber 5. Mr. and Mrs. Dean King and sons Rodney and Mark are here from North Pole, Alaska to spend the Christmas holidays at Cars Demolished In Convoy Wreck By FRANCES ROSE WILSON IRRIGON The Irrigon volun teer fire department responded (o a cull last Thursday morning when a transport truck loaded with new cars overturned at the Junction of highway 80-N and 730 overpass east of Boardman. The convoy truck from Eu gene was east bound when the driver, Larry Drake, apparently fell asleep and swerved Into the ditch overturning. The driver was not injured but the cars were all demolished. Growers were reminded today that the 11H8 marketing year, under the wool and mohair pro gram, ends December 31. David McLeod, office mana ger, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation oflice, ex plains that this means that pay 1 menta for the current l!H18 y?ar I will depend on completing all I details of marketing either wool, mohair, or lambs by that date. I Marketing completed after De cember 31, 18, will become I marketings in the VMi'J market ing year, and thus not eligible for payments until early ly70. McLeod urges producers to make sure that all details for Ihe 19C8 sales are completed by the end of the year. This In cludes passing title to the buy er, delivering the wool or mo hair to the buyer either phys icully or through documents (such as warehouse receipts or bills of lading! transferring con trol to the buyer, and having available all the Information needed to determine the buy ers' total purchase price. Incentive payments under the wool program are based on the average national price for mar ketings during the whole year, and this can be determined more exactly if reports on mar ketings are complete. Because of a lesser flow of water than had been anticipat ed, for operation of the hydro- pneumatic tank, some changes in design were necessary, which will call for a ground level tank storage tank of quite a lot great er capacity, equipped with booster pumps. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bartlett and daughter, Kathleen, left Wed nesday, December 18, for a Christmas visit with relatives in Wellington, Texas. They plan to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ozro Bartlett, and numerous other relatives living there. Wellington is located about 100 miles southeast of Amarillo, where the family plans to make a visit with an uncle of Bart lett's who has had recent sur gery.
