James, who was accidentally fchot In the head several weeks ago, is recovering and will be able to come home soon from Kadlec Hospital in Richland where he is confined. He has some weakness In his left arm according to the parents, but It is hoped this will be overcome by therapy. They report that the wound in his head is healing wen and that his doctor is well pleased with his recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Orvllle Buchan- n and family, traveled to Klamath Falls to take their son. Bob, to the Oregon Technical In stitute. The local grape harvest is well underway with a crew har vesting at the Chas. Miller place and picking soon to start at John Martts. Ronald Hinklev, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Hinkley, has com pleted his basic army training at Fort Lewis. He is now sta tioned at Fort Sill, Okla., where he Is In training with an artil lery unit oi tne u. a. c. Army. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Christiansen were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lake of Gladstone. Lake is past District Governor of the Lions Club. The Christ iansens and Lakes drove to Spo kane to attend the Northwest Lions annual meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Adams and family traveled to Horse thief Lake in Washington for a weeK-end or camping. A group of volunteer workers met at the boat dock on Satur day to remove the building from the float moored in the basin After the buildings were remov ed the float was left for the con venience of fishermen. Mrs. Glen Hoover has been confined to her home for some time with a leg injury which she received in a fall while pick ing huckleberries in the mount' ains. Visitors at the Hoover home during the week were Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Ebert of Cor- vallis, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Greg ory, Ken and Rick, of North Bend, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Can non of Mitchell and Mrs. C. T. Wilson. A number of people from the Irrigon Assembly of God at tended the Christs Ambassadors Youth rally, which met with a capacity crowd at the Hermiston Assembly of God. Rev. James Maxey of Stanfield, who is sec tional C. A. president, was In charge or the meeting. Evangel ist Jerry Russell was the speak er. Special music was by the Parks family of Wapato and by Gary Williams of Spokane. Young peoples groups and church members came from sur rounding towns, with the Pen dleton group receiving recognit ion for the most members pres ent. Alaska Telephone Heppner telephone users will be able to call most all lora Hons In Alaska at less cost start' Ing October 1 under lower rates filed by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company with the Federal Communications Commission. The new rates proposed bv AT&T would save telephone us ers some $1,150,000 annually on a national basis according to Pa cific Northwest Bell Manager Dale Slusher. The lower rates are for night and week-end station-to-station calls. For example, on a call to Anchorage or Fairbanks the new rate would be $2.50 plus tax lor tne first three m nutes. The present rate Is $2.75. For each additional minute the re duced rate would be 80 cents as compared with the present 90 cents. To Nome and some U. S.
