Sperry Descendants Gather for Reunion About 40 friends and relatives etvndrd the annual Sperry family reunion and picnic held early in August at Hat Rock state Dark. A potluck din ner was served to the group at noon. Prizes were awarded during thA Hnv tn Mr. nnrl Mrs. Lnvd Harshman, Dayton, Wn., for having the largest family, to Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Irene) How erd, Walla Walla, for being married the shortest time, and to Mr. and Mrs. Meedham for coming the longest distance to attend the reunion. They are from the San Francisco area. Family members held a bust ness meeting during the after noon and selected Mrs. Lucille Parri.sh and Mrs. Howard to serve on a committee to begin making preparations for next year's reunion, now tentatively set tor Tne iirst Sunday m Aug ust, and to prepare a family scrapbook. Altar Society Plans Public Card Party Coming protects were discus sed by members of St. Patrick's Altar Society at its first meet ing of the fall season Tuesday evening. September d, In the parish hall. Mrs. Harold Curnutt presided during the meeting. Plans were made to sponsor a public card party on Monday evening, September 30, at 8:00 p.m. in the parish hall. Bridge and pinochle will be in play following the dessert lunch, with prizes awarded at the close of the evening. Altar Society members are al so assisting in preliminary plans for the annual turkey dinner, planned for Sunday, October 20, which replaces the smorgasbord held In previous years. GORDON DENNIS SPRAY (Jennifer Lynn Brlndle) Brindle-Spray Vows Exchanged August II Miss Jennifer Lynn Brindle, daughter of Mrs. Patricia Brin dle, Heppncr, was united in marriage to Gordon Dennis Spray at an Impressive double rins ceremony at St. Patrick's Catholic church on Sunday af ternoon, August 11. Parents of the groom are Mrs. Merle Leg ler. Mt. Vernon, and Gordon Spray, La Grande. The Rev. Raymond Beard of ficiated at the 2:00 p.m. ceremo ny. Assisting as altar boys were Ronnie Ward and C. J. BaUe. Arrangements of white glad ioli banked the main and side altars, with white satin pew bows marking the bridal aisle. For her marriage, the bride chose to wear the gown in which her sister, Mrs. Lonnie M. (Jacquelyn) Myers of Denver, Colo., was married. Fashioned of white organza over satin, it featured Venice grape lace trim, which also bordered the chapel train. Her full illusion shoulder length veil was caught at the crown by a Dior white rose. Her single strand of pearls was a gift of the bridegroom. Attending as maid of honor for her sister was Miss Anna marie Brindle. Her floor length gown was of white dacron whip cream dotted swiss material, with white lace and velvet trim. Her headpiece was a white bow with tulle illusion veiling, and she carried a nosegay of white Esther Reed daisies. Best man was Patrick Laird, cousin of the groom, of Mt Lake Terrace. Wash. Ushers were Dean Clark, brother-in-law of the groom. Pen dleton, and Greg Blackman, school friend, of La Grande Wedding music was furnished by Lynne Mathews, college friend of the bride. Pilot Rock, and Mrs. Rose Marie Stroeber at the organ. Vocal selections were "Ave Maria" and "Mother at Your Feet We're Kneeling." For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Brindle wore a candlelight ivory knit dacron sheath dress with apple green accessories and pink rosebud corsage. Mrs. Leg' ler, mother of the bridegroom, attended in a green silk after noon dress, with white accessor ies and pink rosebud corsage. Wedding guests were greeted at a reception in St. Patrick's parish hall, with Mrs. Pat O' Brien In charge of arrangements, assisted by Mrs. Ulen Ward Mrs. Grace Buschke, Mrs. Bruce Rigby and Mrs. Ilene Wyman. The bride's table was center ed with a white wedding cake, baked by Mrs. Elmer Weitzel, decorated with yellow roses, and featured a Chi Rho crestogram of gold. Decorating the punch table was a floral arrangement of white daisies, with English ivy and white tapers. Mrs. Garry Tullis was in charge of the flor al decorations. Serving at the punch and cof fee table were Mrs. Melvin Shewfelt, Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. M. C. Brindle, Colfax, Wn., grandmothers of the bride, and Mrs. Velda Gray, La Grande, grandmother of the groom. Cake was cut and served by aunts of the bride, Mrs. Fred McCoraby, Spokane; Mrs. Larry McGrady, Kennewick; Mrs. Earl Colyar, Colfax, and Mrs. Chet Wayman, Pullman; Mrs. Dan Lagsdon, Spokane, and Mrs. L. L. Hagen, The Dalles. Passing the guest book was Miss Sheridan Wyman, and in charge of the gift table were Sherri Lynn O'Brien and Mrs. D.-.ni Clark of Pendleton. Little Llieridan Grey gave out the rice bags and grooms cakes. The newlyweds left for a wed ding trip to the coast and to Seattle. For traveling the bride changed to a white bonded sheath with coat and hat of matching gold and white plaid yellow accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The groom left September 3 for service in Vietnam, where he will be stationed with the U. S. Army artillery. A. Rlpka of Eugene, the Shewn announce, Judge Douglas Hay, a friend of the groom, performed the ceremony. Aftre a short honeymoon spent at the coast, the newly weds are at home In Salem where Mr. Rlpka Is a sergeant detective for the Marlon County Sheriff '8 office. Mrs. Rlpka Is employed on campus at Oregon State University. Community college In business administration, and worked for J. C. Penney Co. In Pendleton prior to entering service In March of this year. During her husband's absence, Mrs. Spray will be teaching sec ond grade in the Pilot Rock school. She received her degree In elementary education from Eastern Oregon College this summer. She was a graduate of Heppncr High school with the class of 196-1. MISS JUDITH DEE JONES Parents Announce Couple's Betrothal Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Jones are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Judith Dee, to Carl J. D. Bauman, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. D. Bauman, all of Heppncr. Both are graduates of Hepp ncr High school and are attend ing the University of Oregon in Eugene. , Judy will enroll for her junior ear, niatoring In elementary education, and Carl will be a senior in the field of pre-law. Official delegates will oe Mrs. George and Mrs. Bill John son, regional representative. The Heppncr club will be one of the co-hosts for the meetings, working with The Dalles club In preparing for the Sunday morn ing breakfast and the devotional program. Headquarters for the meetings will be at Eddy's Motel and Restaurant. The club welcomed a new member, Mrs. Bill Weatherford, after being presented by Mrs. John Pfciffer, classlflca 1 1 o n s chairman. A letter of thanlrs was read from Stuart Dick, lifeguard, and the City of Heppncr, for the club's donation of a bulletin board which was placed last month at the Hcppner Municipal swimming pool. Report of Mrs. Carl McDanlels, treasurer, announced a net re ceipt of $18706 from the club's operation of the Country Store at the county fair. Suggestions of improvement were noted for the coming year. Members were thanked for work done In preparing the beautiful float. "Madame Butter fly," for the rodeo parade.
