Mr. and Mrs. Dave Larson and children Kohbv and Lorrl have returned home from a two week's trip visiting coastal points from Astoria to Tilla mook. Week end visitors at the Lhrsun home were Mrs. Larson's brother-in-law and sister, Dr. and Mrs. John Gardner and dau ehlers Shelley. Wendy, Sharl. Jamie and Becky of t'lgln. Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan of Portland were week end visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. Deinert Houston and children Leo, Arlene, Don ald and Sharon of La Grande Approval was made for the fi nal payment to be made on the overhead storage water tank at the meeting of the city coun cil lust week, as the tank is completed and in use. Shelco Electric Company of llermiston presented a proposal for light ing on the tank, but it was tab led for now. A report was given on the piogress of negotiations for the city park with the U. S. Strong Teams Due to Play In All-Star Game Aug. 24 The Ladies Aid Society of Community Church met last week at the home of Mrs. Chub Warren. Mrs. Leo Root was In charge of the spiritual hour. The next meeting; will be at the home of Mrs. Arthur Allen Sep tember 4. Mrs. Joe Tatone was In North Bend August 3 where she was one of the Judges of the Miss Oregon World Pageant. It was held at Pony Village. The nat ional contest will be held in San Diego, Calif., this week. During the week-end Mrs. Ta tone attended a reunion of the Wicklander family in Portland at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Gloria) Childress. Oth er sisters attending were Mrs. John (L'llabellrM Mullica of Portland, and Mrs. Ray (Glad ys) Stone of Seattle, Wash., and one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wicklander of San Jose, Calif. Another bro ther, Hector, is in a convales cent home at Lincoln City and was unable to attend. Mrs. Zoe Billings has return- Despite what may be found in verse. East and West do meet. A 2 and B high school football all-stars will comprise the two opponents and be tutored by Dick Sutherland guiding the West and his counterpart Bill Hargardine, coach of the State championship A-2 team, Central of Independence, sutnenana hells from perennially strong Bandon. Neither coach Is a stranger to this game. Suther land led a last, strong west souad to victory In 1966 to the tune of 39 to 18. Hargarmne lost a close one, 6-0, to the West In 1963. The West squad Is once again expected to field a speedy squad along with great size. Sutherland will have three out standing quarterbacks to choose from for this annual benefit game. Mike Wheeler, all-state performer from Newport, will lead the pack. Andy McGladrey Is another strong candidate who led Colton Into the finals of B-ll competition last November. He is the son of Colton coach and West team assistant, Merlin McGladrey. The third outstand ing candidate for the all im portant spot will be Ron Watt, Scappoose signal caller and all- aiound athlete. To handle Sutherland's pet sweeps, reverses and traps the West can call on sucn stalwart ball carriers as Tom Grabb. Har risburg halfback, Les Kitch. 195 pound fullback from iMestucca, Von Wecker, North catholic fullback and twice all-state se ection, and Pat Zosel, Elkton back with strong credentials, Hargardine. along with assist ant Pat Fleming of Wallowa will go all out to gain revenge for last year's humiliating dJ 11 defeat suffered by the East. The Shrine organizations will go all out to add to the nearly S170.000 already contributed to the Shrine Hospital over tne years. T Jt . i iTrip East Saddened For Heppner Family By Death of Relative Mrs. Darlene Arrlnjiton and three girls. Dale Ann. Kathy and Bonnie, arrived home Tues day. August 6, from iending month's vacation visiting rela tives in Bowdin. Ga. Lea vino Pendleton airport Saturday, July 6, they flew by let to the South to visit at tne home of the girls' grandparents. Mi. and Mrs. Kunv Arrlngton. Just two days after their arrival. Mr. Arrlngton. an invalid for several years, suffered a severe stroke and passed away. Fun eral services were held In Bow din on t'rldav, July 12. While In Ceorcla the family had opportunity to visit with many family friends and rela tives whom they had not seen for several years. Among rela tives coming from a distance to attend the funeral services were Mi. and Mm. Jay Hugh Yeates, of Washington. IX C The family did soma sight seeing on the trip, and enjoyed an excursion to Stone Mountain Park, a large recreational area located near Atlanta. Mrs. Ar rlngton says the weather In the South was warm, but not near ly as warm as weather they had left In Eastern Oregon. On arriving In Pendleton, they wre met by Mrs. Arlington's mother. Mrs. Cody Wise. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wllsoa and children. Perry and Lisa, left Monday for a week'a vacation trip to Portland, where they will vu-it the Portland Zoo and spend time visiting at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Max Breeding and family, and other relatives. 1U Thannuia.
