I ) 4 '' 41 MR. AND MRS. L. NEAL PENLAND (Diana Scbaffiti) Couple Greeted Here Following Marriage In Portland June 8 The marriage of Miss Diane Gail Schaffitz, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edward K. Schaffitz, Heppner, to Leroy Neal Pen land, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Penland of Tillamook, and formerly of Heppner, was sol emnized on Saturday, June 8. Vows were exchanged at a 5:00 p.m. ceremony at Grace Memorial Episcopal church in Portland, in the presence of im mediate families and close friends. The Rev. Larry Schultz performed the double ring cere mony. At the altar were floral ar rangements of pink roses and white spider chrysanthemums. Escorted by her father, the bride was attractively gowned in a white jayon-linen floor length gown In princess lines, accented with Irish lace and seeded pearl trim in the back and on the elbow-length sleeves, Her fingertip illusion veil was held by a tiara of lace and seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of babv white roses and stephano- tis, and a handkerchief given her by the groom's grandmother. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Schaffitz chose a pink lin en suit with pink accessories. Mrs. Penland mother of the groom, wore an aqua silk linen suit with white accessories. An other honor guest was Mrs. Mary Carter of Portland, grand mother of the bride. Following the ceremony the bride's parents were hosts for a dinner at the Cosmopolitan Ho tel, and on the preceding even ing parents of the groom en tertained at a rehearsal dinner at the Tod of the Cosmo. After a honeymoon along the Oregon coast, the couple visited his parents for a week in Tula mook and last week were guests of her parents in Heppner. Dr. and Mrs. Schaffitz honor ed the newlyweds with an open house reception at their home on Sunday, June 30, with many local friends calling between the hours of 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. Coming for the week-end and renewing acquaintances here during the reception were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Penland, parents of the groom, publishers of the Headlight Herald in Tillamook. Serving during the afternoon were Mrs. Hubert Wilson, Mrs. ' Merritt Gray, Mrs. Bill Collins, Miss Joan Stockard, Miss Bren da Young, Mrs. Claude Graham, Mrs. P. W. Mahoney, Mrs. Rob ert Kelly and Mrs. Raymond Ferguson. Attractive floral arrangements by Mrs. Clint McQuarrie carried out the pink and white color theme used at the couple's wed ding. The new Mrs. Penland greet ed their guests in her pink and white going away ensemble, with hot pink accessories. Relatives and close friends were guests of the Schaffitz family at a patio dinner follow ing the reception hours. . Penland, a graduate of Hepp ner High school in 1961, has just returned from 16 months mili tary service in Thailand and Vietnam, where he was a com munications officer in charge of news release services and news paper publications. Mrs. Pen land, a licensed beautician, was graduated from Heppner High school in 1966. The newlyweds left early Monday morning for Fort Meade, Md., where he will be stationed with the U. S. Army. His tour of duty will be com pleted after seven months. Mrs. George Oliver and dau ghter, Lori, of Dayton, Wn., vis ited Sunday night and Monday at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Willard O'Harra and family. Church Youth Hold Combined Swim Party Church youth groups of Hepp ner, Lexington and lone gath ered at the lone swimming pool Monday evening, June 24, for an evening of swimming after which they joined in a brief wor ship service. Forty-eight youth members turned out to participate in the joint meeting. Refreshments were served following the wor ship period. The two returned 1 home by bus, where they were j met In Umatilla by tier son, Bob Kelly. Reunion in Colorado Planned by Families Mr. and Mrs. BUI Heath and daughter Lynda, and Mrs. Heath's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McLaughlin, left Friday evening, June 28, for the Mc Laughlins' home In Montrose, Colo. The couple had visited at the Heath home In Heppner for several weeks. A family reunion Is planned In Colorado reuniting Mr. and Mrs. Bernard McLaughlin of Middletown, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Robert McLaughlin of Aztec, N. M., and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar McLaughlin and family of Pu eblo. Colo., all brothers of Mrs. Heath. The Heppnerites will visit relatives in Grand Junction, Colo., on the return trip home.
