Young Lodge, Degree of Honor Protective Association, were non ored guests at the regular meet ing Tuesday evening, June 11. At the invitation 01 President Ardith Hunt, current officers re linquished their chairs for the evening to the past presidents. At the stations for the even ing were Mrs. Mary McMurtry, president; Mrs. Lucille Parrish, vice-president; Mrs. Martha King, past president; Mrs. Irene Nolan, 2nd vice-president; Mrs. Theta Lowe, secretary; Mrs. Mary Bryant, usher; Mrs. Mabel Chaffee, assistant usher; Mrs. Eleanor Gonty, left assistant; Mrs. Alice McCabe, right assist ant; and Mrs. Adelle LaTrace, outside watch. Ushers introduced Mrs. Ida Farra as a past state president Entertainment Included a travel game, presented by sev eral of the members. Mrs. Hunt served refreshments at the close of the meeting. Birth Announced Mr. and Mrs. Kay Corbin of Portland are announcing the ar rival of their second daughter, born Friday, June 14, weighing 6 lb., 12 V4 oz. She has been nam ed Krlsta Ilene. and loins a two year-old sister, Kayla. Maternal grandparents are Mr. ana Mrs. Kon Leonnig, and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs, Bert Corbin, all of Heppner. Several local residents attend ed the Ron Jones-Monica Green wedding in Salem on Saturday, June 15. Those attending from Heppner were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Arbogast, Ray Jones, Mrs. Jim Thomson and Bruce, Lee Dag gett, Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Jones, grandparents of the groom, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green, Tom and Margaret. Both Green and Daggett served as ushers at the wedding and Thomson at tended as best man. On Satur day evening, Margaret Green at tended the wedding of a col lege classmate in Salem. Couple Plans Church Wedding Sunday Mr. and Mrs. George Zumwalt of Lexington are announcing the approaching marriage of their daughter, Theresa Marie Dickson, to Mr. Jerald Neese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fager of La Grande. The couple will exchange their marriage vows at a cere mony to be held Saturday, June 29, at 7:30 p.m., in the Assem bly of God church in Heppner. They invite all friends to at tend. A wedding reception will fol low the ceremony in the base ment rooms of the First Christ ian church. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Connor and Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Nash traveled to Beaverton on Satur day from where the Nashs left on Sunday morning with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Parsons for a week's vacation trip to Canada. The Connors spent time visit ing with Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Williams in Aloha on Sunday and accompanied the family to Vernonia, where they went to take their son, Rocky, to Perry's Sport Camp. Sans Souci Delegates Report on Attending State Convention During the first meeting In June of Suns Souii Hebekah Lodge, three guests were wcl corned bv Mrs. Tom Huston, no hie lthihI. Kcports of the activities of the kitchen committee wnicn served the Pioneer Memorial Day din ner was given. Mrs. Huston ex pressed her appreciation to all who assisted wltn this project. Delegates to the state Rebek- oh Assembly, Mrs. Ed LuTrace and Mrs. Larry Cook, gave their respective reports of the three day sessions In Corvallls. The local lodge Is honored by hav ing two members on the He bekah Assembly list this year. Mrs. Cook was appointed Uut Klde Guardian and was install ed during the public Installa tion ceremonies of the Grand Lodge and Rebekah Assembly officers. Mrs. Altha Kirk is a hold -over member of the Re bekah Assembly Pilgrimage for Youth committee, which was honored in an impressive can dlelighting skit presented by Grass Valley Theta Rho Girls Club. All Rebekah lodges In Oregon who have given support to the Pilgrimage for Youth work were awarded certificates, pre sented to the delegates during Assembly. Sans Souci's certifi cate was presented by Mrs. Cook and Mrs. LaTrace to Mrs. Hus ton, noble grand. This will bei Lyle Hopper is Wed To Hermiston Girl June 4 was the wedding date of Miss Anna Junes and Lyle Jlopier, who were united In tnarrlage at the Baptist Church In Hermiston. Hopper Is the son of Mr. and Mrs, Bob Hopper, former Heppner residents, who now make their home In the Hermiston area. Following his graduation from Heppner High school In 1904, Hopper attended two years at Blue Mountain Community col lege In Pendleton. The young couple will reside In Hermiston where he Is em ployed at the Umatilla Army Depot. Mrs. Don Eu bonks and dau- ghter, Melindn, returned to their home In roruana on Monday after visiting her mother, Mrs. Alice McCabe, and other rela tives here since Memorial Day. Mrs. McCabe took them to Port land, with son, Allen, and Doug Gonty, will visit a short time before returning home later in the week. framed and hung In the lodge hall. Next meeting of Sans bouci lodge, June 21, will he the last regular meeting until the fall term, and a good attendance is important. Mrs. R. G. McMurtry, assisted by Mrs. Mary Bailev, served refreshments during the social hour at the close of the evening. Riding Club Members Study Horsemanship The Blackhorse Riders 4-H club met June 8 at the home of Its leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sleagall. President Becky Doherty call ed the meeting to order. Mr. Sleagall gave us gome do's and don'ts concerning horsemanship manners and our correct dress. Diana Raymond Rave a report on grooming. Mr. Sleagall showe d the members the required 4-H horsemanship routines. We all had our horses so we spent the afternoon practicing and cor recting our horsemanship. At the end of the meeting a sack race, using our horses for half the race, was" cnloyed. Kelwayne Haguewood came in first, Char lie Pointer was second and Di ana Raymond, third. Thursday, June 20. 1961 Spauldings Attend Funeral of Aunt Mr. and Mrs. Carl Spaulding and daughter Janice attended funeral services for Mrs. Mae Horn In Hood River on Tuesday, June 4. Mrs. Horn, aunt of Mrs. Spaulding, died Saturday, June 1, after a sudden illness. Mrs. Horn was an active par ticipant In the Oregon American Legion Auxiliary organization, and had visited in this area several times. The Spaulding family return ed home the following Sunday after spending the remainder of the week in Portland. Enjoys L. A. Visit Karen McCurdy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan McCurdy, returned Sunday by air to Port land from a week's visit with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Lcn Oilman, and family in Los Angeles. She reports a very en joyable week with her aunt, uncle and cousins there. She was met In Portland by her parents, and now has entered the summer school session at OreRon State University. Also going to the OSU summer session Is Bruce Moyer, on-ln-law of Mr. and Mrs. McCurdy. His wife, Diane, and children will spend the summer with the McCurdys here. Moyer is working towards a masters degree and Miss Mc Curdy is making up a term she lost during earlier college days when she was injured in an auto accident. She will be a sen ior at OSU in the fall. Moyer is a teacher In La Grande. Hopper Hospitalized After Heart Attack Bob Hopper, former Heppner resident, is showing satisfactory Improvement in Good Shepherd hospitpl in Hermiston after suf fering a severe heart attack at his home May 22. He expects to remain in the hospital for another week. Hopper moved from Heppner In the spring of 1964 to accept employment at the Umatilla Army Depot. He was formerly employed at the Morrow Coun ty Creamery and lived here about eight years. 1 Rhea Creek to Hear Talk by Jean Hill Jean Hill of Klmberly, who was a delegate to the 411 club Congress In Washington. D. C, this spring, will bo the speaker at the meeting of the Rhea Creek Grange at Kuggs on Friday evening, June 28, at 8 p.m. She will show slides that she took on the trip and tell of high lights. Everyone la welcome to attend the meeting. Three Attend Meet Walter Jacobs, president, and Harlan McCurdy, manager, of Morrow County Grain Growers left last Wednesday to attend the meeting of the Pacific North west Grain Dealers association in Spokane, continuing- through. Friday. Riley Munkers, man ager of the grain division of MCGG. went to the meeting on Thursday and remained through its duration. The group met in the Ridpath Hotel.
