KEITA BiDDi, joint Executrix R S. Thompson, Joint Executor Mahoney & Abrams Attorneys at Law Heppner, Oregon 11-14C Water Project Funds Approved By FRANCES ROSE WILSON IRRIGON Interest was Quick ened when word was received the past week by Mayor Wilson from Farmers Home Adminis trations Pendleton office that Federal funds for construction of the city water system are now available and the City could proceed wun plans to de' velop it. Funds had previously been ap propriated for the proposed pro ject but were rescinded In De cember due to governmental cutbacks when start of the pro ject was held up because of fail ure to sign sufficient subscrib ers to guarantee bond payment and operational costs. These have since been obtained and authorization for advertising of the revenue bonds for sale and start of engineering design giv en to the city attorney and en gineering nrm. The proposed project, which has been under study for sev eral years, is expected to serve some 55 families initially and the project cost to be $67,500 which will be financed by a Federal grant of $26,700, reve nue bonds in the amount of $36,000 and service connection charges of $4,800. The engineering firm of Cor' nell, Howland, Hayes & Merry' field of Seattle, who made the feasibility study for both the water and a sewer system for the City in 1962 will be hand ling engineering during project development and attorney Don ald Morrison will act as legal counsel. Emergency water has been supplied by the City to several families In the area for over a year, when they were left with out water due to a diminishing water table affecting the pri vate wells serving them. The small well being used for this purpose has been overtax ed to meet the need, especially during the summer season, and it is hoped water will be avail able to customers in the new system before the height of the summer season according to Mayor Wilson.
