Land Manage ment owned 31,915,902 acres of land in Oregon. The true cash value of Federal proper' ty not taxed in Oregon amounted to $3,456,305,000, Our group from the West was loined by the Southern dele gates who were advocating states rights. At the meeting ot the convention our dele gates prepared the following resolution: "THAT ALL FEDERAL PROPERTY NOT USED FOR A SPECIFIC PURPOSE, BE DEEDED BACK TO THE COUNTIES, THEREBY PUT TING IT ON THE TAX ROLLS." We did not introduce our res olution when we discovered that the "King Makers" were more interested in defeating Goldwater than putting a plank in his platform which would help elevate him to the presidency. Our resolution provided that one half the money from the sale of the land be used tc reduce the national debt, the other half to offset the prop erty tax. At the last session of the Oregon legislature we intro duced the same memorial which the Senate approved 25-5. When the memorial went to the House, the Chairman of the committee where the memorial was sent, refused to let it go to a vote. WHY?
