May 12, Miss Sara Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren S. Miller, Heppner, was crowned Worthy Advisor of Ruth Assembly No. 50, International Order of Rain bow for Girls. Following the welcome by Mrs. Rachel Harnett, mother ad visor, installing officers were in troduced, which included Jill PadbcrR, worthy advisor; Char lene Hamlctt of the lone Assem bly, chaplain; Linda Heath, re corder; Jan (Hager) Evans, mar shal, and Mrs. C. C. Carmichael, musician. Incoming officers were intro duced and escorted to their sta tions. Serving for the coming term will be: Sara Miller, wor thy advisor; Teresa Harshman, worthy associate advisor; Patti Howell, charity; Sue Melby, hope; Cindy Harsin, faith; Ter esa Wright, drill leader; Jill Scott, love; Tami Meador, relig ion; Bobbette Jones, nature; Linda Baker, immortality; Lin da Cooper, fidelity; Marie Van Marter, patriotism; Cathy Sher man, service; Karen Cox, confi dential observer; Peggy Taylor, outer observer; Christie Taylor, musician; Diane McLachlan, choir director, and Patti O Har ra, choir member. Crownine ceremonies tollowed the installation by members of Blue Mountain Chapter of De Molay, Hermiston, under the leadership of Boyd Thomas, Jr., master counselor. Worthy Advisor Sara has cho en as her theme for office, the scripture passage, "And God said: I do set Mv bow in the cloud." (Genesis 9: 12, 13). Her chosen colors were those of "the rainbow", with pink and white used predominately in decora tions in the reception rooms. In her honor, Teresa Harshman read favorite scripture verses from the Book of Genesis re- ff T ,. f MRS. latcd to Sara's chosen theme, with background accompani ment by Mrs. Carmichael. Several distinguished guests were In attendance. Introduced were Willa Johnson, worthy ad visor of lone Assembly; Mrs. Virginia Wilkinson, Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter, O. K. S. in Oregon; four past worthy ad visors of Ruth Assembly, Lynda Orwick, Linda Heath, Jan Ha ger Evans and Mrs. Jay Wheel house; Herman Winter, worship ful master of Heppner Lodge AF&AM; Boyd Thomas, Jr., mas ter counselor of Blue Mountain Chapter, Order of DeMolay, Hermiston. . Special guests introduced were Mr. and Mrs. Miller, parents of the new worthy advisor, who presented their daughter with a gavel. In tribute to the work of Jill Padberg for the past term, an impressive addendum by offi cers, carrying out her theme "love", presented her with a past worthy advisor's pin. An other addendum honored Sara as she was escorted and "pin ned" with ribbons in rainbow colors at the various stations. Guests were greeted at a re ception following the installa tion. A large white cake dec orated with a rainbow and in scribed with her theme, center ed the serving table, flanked by pink tapers. Rebekoh Members Veteran membership jewels were presented to several mem bers of Sans Soucl KelH-kuh Lodge No. 33 at a special re ception In their honor on Sun day. May 5. Friends of the lodge and community greeted nine of the 14 veterans, between 2:00 and 4:00 P.m.. in the fellow ship rooms of the Heppner Christian church. All have hem memberships for over 45 years. Those who were present to re ceive their jewels were Mrs. Letha Archer. Mrs. Earl Gllllum, Mrs. Pete McMurtrv, Mrs. Loyal Parker. Mrs. Evelyn Farrens, Mrs. Alice Luttrell. Mrs. Clara Gertson, John Wlghtman and Mrs. Mabel Chaffee. Others who qualified, but were unable to be present, were Mrs. Emma Jones, Mrs. Tena Scott and Oral Scott of Hermiston, Mrs. Lena Knowles of Umatilla and Mrs. Daisy Charlton of La Grande. Others who hold over 40-year memberships were also nonorea. Guests were greeted by Mrs. Gerry Rood, who also Introduc ed those appearing on the pro gram. Christie Taylor followed with piano numbers. "How Great Thou Art" and "Born Free". Mrs Rood closed the program with an appropriate poem, "Life Is Making Friends". During the recognition cere mony, each honor guest was pre sented a corsage by Mrs. Tom Huston, noble grand, and the veteran's Jewel. Mrs. Ed La Trace, past noble grand, regis tered the guests In the guest book and placed on them badg es of honor. Floral decorations carried out the pink and green lodge col ors. Serving at the refreshment table was Mrs. Emma Hager and pouring was Mrs. Madge Bryant. Detailed arrangements were taken care of by the host ess committee. MISS MARGARET LYNN SAWYER Engagement Told Of Lynn Sawyer Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Key of Heppner announce the engage ment and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Margaret Lynn Sawyer, to Ronald H. (Skip) Carnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert H. Carnes of Pilot Rock. Miss Sawyer attended Hepp ner schools and Good Shepherd Convent school in Portland. Carnes is a graduate of Pilot Rock High school with the class of 1962, and served two years of military duty in Germany. T BLUE BELL 4 PAK POTATO CHIPS 730 LULU WRIGHT Celebration Honors Lulu Wright on 90th Birthday Anniversary Mrs. Lulu Wright, lifetime resident of Oregon, celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday, April 28, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Lyle (Lu lu) Cole in Portland. Mrs. Wright is a pioneer of Morrow county, coming here at the age of five with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Riley Munk ers, and two sisters, from the Willamette Valley. They lived at Weston for a year then mov ed to Eightmile, taking up a homestead there. Her father was one of the builders of the Lib erty schoolhouse, where she got her first schooling. She is the eldest of 10 child ren, with one brother, Roy, and one sister, Myrtle, living. She married Sylvanus Wright on December 24, 1895. Six of their children were born in Mor row county and two were born in Grant county. Three of her children, Mrs. Dellie Matlock, Mrs. Mabel Gale and Russell Wright, are living. She also has six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Mrs. Wright makes her home in Portland with her daughter, Mrs. Dellie Matlock, 3600 North Baldwin St. ..
