(G-T Photo), Judging Criteria Given To Inform Fair Exhibitors By LENNA SMITH County Fair Board Secretary Following are some helpful hints for those who are plan ning to enter Open C lass Cloth ing and the Flower Division ex hibits at the Morrow County Fair, with information relative to "What a Judge Looks For". There are three main lots in the clothing division Adult Clothing, Children's Clothing, and Miscellaneous Clothing (such as garments made from feed sacks, remodeled clothing, laundry bags, etc.) Only one article in each lot number can be exhibited. A judge first of all looks at the neatness of garment con struction and if the garment Is clean. She will not disqualify an article that has been laund ered several times, but will dis qualify one that is soiled. (It is always best to pin a label to garment stating how many times it has been laundered.) Also label material in garment stating if it is cotton, nylon, wool, synthetics, etc. Hems should be put in loose ly iron-on tape Is not recom mended. The score card for clothing garments is as follows: General appearance 50 Color & Design 30 Suitable fabric & trim ....20 Construction of garment 40 Well pressed & clean 10 Total 100 Superintendents in this divis ion are Mrs. Jerry Brosnan and Marilyn Bergstrom. I'm sure they would be glad to answer any questions you may have and you may also call me about entering clothing in the fair. Begin now to sew on clothing articles for the fair and enter In as many lots as possible. In this way we will improve the clothing division of our fair and you will be surprised at how gratifying the results can be. Flower entries will be accept ed on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning until 11:30 a.m. Because of the rush on Wednesday, August 21 of horti culture exhibit entries, it is best to enter all housoplants on Tuesday, August 20. Entries will be open for houseplants and all other flowers that will stay fresh on Tuesday afternoon from 3:30 n.m. until 8:00 P.m. All other flower entries should be made from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. August 21. Juriinne betrins not later than 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug ust 21. Horn nr. n few rules that aD- ply to the Flower Division: 1. Most containers will be fur nished bv the Fair Board. 2. Three stems of any variety constitute an exhibit, except as otherwise indicated in pre mium book. 3. Foliage of plant required with bloom. 4. Only one entry may be made in each class or class divis ion, but all are welcome to enter as many classes as pos sible. Horticulture specimen must be grown by the exhibitor and should be labeled with the correct name whenever possi ble. Flowers used in arrangements need not be grown by exhib itor. Consult thn nrpminm hook to see just how many different lots there are in houseplants, Horti culture and arrangements. You m:iv nn lnsr vpars hook until the new one is printed. There will be no changes. Special award ribbons are given for Best in Horticulture, Best in Arrangements, and Best of Show. Blue, red, and white ribbons are given on other ex hibits. There are six picture boxes with a theme to be cho sen and named by contestant. Interested persons should con tact the fair board if you wish to reserve one of these boxes. Because of the tireless efforts of many of our flower superin tendents last year, many people who had never exhibited before had flowers in the fair and were very happy when they viewed the exhibit after judging and found they had won a blue, red, or even white ribbon. Enter in as many lots as you wish the flower division is one of the best areas of the fair. 3:37 3:14 3:01 2:48 2:28 2:28 1:50 1:24 1:08 :54 :44 :35 :27 :17 7:44 7:31 7:14 6:54 6:30 4:02 3:54' 3:24 3:00 1:09 :33 7:44 7:05 6:48 6:31 6:24 5:59 5:35 4:35 4:14 3:57 Mr and Mrs. Terry Thompson and family traveled to Redmond early last week to bring Mrs. Thompson's grandmother, Mrs. Edna Carpenter, back for a weeks visit.
