Main, Hermiston, Oregon. 52-4c H from Morrow In State Colleges A total of 94 students from Morrow county were enrolled In colleces and universities of the State System of Higher Educa tion during 1966-67, according to official statistics made avail able to Colleges For Oregon s Future, a statewide organization dedicated to public understand ing of post-high school educa tional needs. The Morrow county enroll ment Is expected to Increase again this year, but figures for 1967-68, won't be available un til the end of the school year. Many students are also enrolled in community colleges and in dependent colleges and univer sities in Oregon. Totals from Morrow county In cluded 23 students at the Uni versity of Oregon; 1, University of Oreeon Medical School: 30. Oregon State University; 2, Ore gon college of Education; d. Southern Oregon College; and 35, Eastern Oregon College. Sharply increased enrollments are expected in the state col leges and universities and the community colleges for years to come. Clay Myers Files Election Petition Secretary of State Clay Myers filed by petition Thursday for the Republican nomination for Secretary of State on the May 28th primary election ballot. Records in the Elections Div ision indicate that Myers is the nrst state-wide candidate to get on the ballot by the petition in perhaps 20 years or more. Oregon law provides tnat a candidate may go on the ballot Dy getting louo signatures or registered voters of his own party In 10 percent of the precincts in at least seven counties. Chairman of the Myers petit ion drive, Albany businessman Robert Mikkelson, pointed out that the signature campaign had far exceeded the basic legal re quirement. Hoof and Horn Club Sees Demonstrations Three demonstrations were given by four members of the Hoof and Horn Livestock club at the February 11 meeting. Bill and Greg Greenup combined to provide the first demonstration entitled, "How To Make A Rope Halter." Kirk Robinson gave the second demonstration on "How to Prepare and Give a Vaccina tion." Kyle Robinson presented the final demonstration on "How to Make an Efficient Back Scratcher." The last half of the meeting was conducted by Alfred Drake on dairy as a project. He pre sented a film to those members present on the modernization of dairy farming. Sandy Carlson provided the program for the February 25 meeting. She had been a mem ber of the group who had visit' ed the state capital in the 4-H "Know Your State Government." She presented a talk on what she had learned and why other members should plan to attend next year. Blackhorse Riders Club is Organized On February 26 the Black horse Riders 4-H club met at the home of 1 the leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Steasall. Officers elected for the year were Becky Doherty, president; Knsti Haguewood, vice president: Kimee Lu Haguewood, secretary and news reporter; Charlie Pointer, song and game leader. Meetings will be on the second Saturday of each month at the Steagall home. Mrs. Steaeaii outlined tne things we would learn this year. The next meeting will be March 9, at 1:30, and a film will be shown. Kimee Lu Haguewood, reporter Knitting Club Meets The Irrigon Knitters 4-H club met at the home of our leader, Mrs. Kerlin. The officers which were elected were lata Lou Christiansen, president; Christy Witt, vice president; Kathy Beal, secretary, and Karen Richards, reporter. We named the club the irneon Knitters. Karen Richards, reporter Club Adds Members Third meeting of the Cool Cookers 4-H club was held Feb ruary 28. All the girls helped make hamburgers and the ba nana milk. Three new members joined our club, Becky Stillman, Kathy Marshall, and Muriel Turner.
