Following the program, San ta Claus appeared and gave candy to all children. Mrs. Rollln Bishop was host ess for the Boardman Garden Club Christmas party at her home the first of last week. There was an exchange of gifts. In a game played the prize was won by Mrs. Arthur Allen. Mrs. Ed Kuhn received the door prize. The club voted to buy two trees to be planted In the yard at Boardman Comm unity church. Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Ha zel Jenkins were appointed to see about purchasing the trees. Plans were made to have a program on "Fertilizer and pest control" at the next meeting January 15. Mrs. Allen will be hostess. Mrs. Frank Marlow and Mrs. Walter Hayes were ap pointed a committee to see about Retting a speaker. Four tables of pinochle were In play at the card party at the grange hall last week, sponsor ed by the Home Economic Club of Greenfield Grange. High prize was won by Mrs. LaVerne Peter son, and low went to Mrs. Glen Carpenter. Jerry Peck left Friday for Pre sidio, Calif., to spend the holi days at the home of his In laws, Col. and Mrs. Robert Heald, where Mrs. Peck and sons have been the past two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Carpenter and sons Russell and Tommy of Payette, Idaho, were Christ mas visitors at the home of Mrs. Carpenter's mother, Mrs. Haz el Jenkins. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Davidson and son Robert of Portland were holiday visitors at the home of Mrs. Davidson's moth er, Mrs. Roy Partlow. l.Zi6. Frank Marlow accompa nied her brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Smith of Pendleton, to Portland Saturday to visit Mrs. Smith's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Don Satchell. Mrs. Marlow went on to Medford to spend Christmas at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Marlow. She will also visit at the home of her other son, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Mar low at Salem, on her way home. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Chilman left Friday to spend the holidays in Calyifornla with relatives. They will visit Mrs. Chilman's broth ers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gummersall at Los Gatos, and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gummersall at San Jose, her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs, Wil liam Westerman at Sobastopol; and her cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Brown in San Jose. She had been a resident of the Salem area for the past six years. Born February 7, 1891, in Wis consin, she was the daughter of Darwin and Hattie Northrup. She came west by wagon train with her parents to Pilot Rock, who later homesteaded a ranch in Sand Hollow. On February 5. 1911. she was married to Henry Crump, in DAniiutnn ami thrv. ton. were occupied in ranching in the same area. He preceded her in death In 1937. Nnvy stationed in San Diego aboard the USS Piedmont; Mike F'almer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Palmer, who is with the US Army in Fort Lewis, Wn.; Herbert Davidson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Davidson, who is stationed at Fort Ord. Calif., in Communications; Frankie Rob inson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson, who Is with the Marine Corps at Whldbey Is land, and Donald VanWlnkle, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. VanWinkle. who was previously stationed in Ohio but Is now en route to Vietnam, and Kenneth Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Jones, with the USS Navy at Long Beach, Calif., serving on the USS Galveston. Men In service are the three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Buster Pad berg, John Wallace, in the Air Force, who Just returned from duty in Turkey and is now at Norton Air Force Base in Calif ornia; Gene Wallace, in the U. S. Seabees and stationed at Chu Lai in Vietnam, and Dick Wal lace, in the U. S. Marines, work ing in communications and sta tioned at Camp Foster in Okinawa. Miss Linda VanWinkle from Los Angeles, Calif., and Miss Leora VanWinkle who is with the Vista program in Central Valley, Calif., have returned to their homes after visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. VanWinkle. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Majeske returned home Tuesday after spending Christmas in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith spent the holidays in Glide, with Mr. Smith's mother. Mrs. Emery Burnslde of Spray, who has recently been releas ed from Pioneer Memorial hos pital, is spending some time with her daughter, Mrs. Lola Breeding. Mr. and Mrs. Henry M. Breed ing and sons have been recent visitors in Lexington. Grange Club Holds Luncheon Mrs. A. K. Mateske and Mrs. Florence McMillan were hostess es to a Christmas luncheon at the Maloske home last Thurs day. Holiday decorations were carried out throughout the rooms with gaily decorated in dividual tables and favors. Those present for the luncheon were Mrs. Ernest Chrlstopherson, Mrs. Wilbur Steagall. Mrs. Nora Turner, Mrs. Ola Ruggles, Mrs. Martha VanSchoiack, Mrs. Ella Burgoyne, Mrs. Kenneth Smouse, Mrs. Norman Nelson, Mrs. Joe Yocom, Mrs. Cecil Jones, and in vited guests, Mrs. Everett Brock and Mrs. King. Following the luncheon an H.E.C. business meeting was held. At this time an apprecia tion gift was given to Mrs. Cecil Jones for her work as subordni am ntr rhnlrman and lectur er of the grange for the past year. This meeting will be held at the Jones home. Pfc. Wallace Mokes Call from Okinawa A welcomed pre-Christmas gift for Mr. and Mrs. Buster Pad berg was a direct telephone con versation with her son. Pfc. Richard Wallace, stationed at Camp Foster in Okinawa. He is Mrs. Florence McMillan for Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Messen ger and children of Portland were visitors of his family over Christmas. Guests at the C. C. Jones home were Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Irvln and family of Hood River, Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Jones, Dale Whitney and Miss Charlene Jones of Portland, and Kenneth L. Jones, now in the U. S. Na vy. The Jones' children and Bil ly Irvln, a nephew, will be with them for a week's visit Paul Morey of Portland visit ed at the Myra Peck home last Gene Majeske motored to For est Grove on Thursday, Decem ber 21. to bring their son. Mrs. Clco VanWinkle, who has been a patient for some time at Hiersche's Nursing Home in Pen dleton, has returned to her home. a teletype operator and message sender, and through connections with a ham radio operator, made direct contact with the parents by phone. The message came through on the afternoon of December 20 at a time when Mrs. Padberg was the only one at homo to visit with her mar ine son. Pvt. Wallace has two brothers also In service. Gene Wallace la serving his second tour with the Seabees in Vietnam, stationed recently in the Chu Lai prov. ince. SSgt. John Wallace, a car eer man, is starting his seventh year In the Air Force, now sta tioned at Norton Air Force Base in California. Legion to Sponsor New Yeor's Dance A dance at the Heppner Leg ion hall Saturday night, Decem ber 30, will be in celebration of the New Year, given under the sponsorship of American Legion Post No. 87.
