Buttrev, minister for the Oregon Conference of the United Church of Christ, will fill the pulpit here this Sun day, December 21. Students in Mrs. Henry Krebs hlh school Sunday School class will licht headvent candles and provide special music which will be un der the direction of Darrell James. Mrs. Cleo Childers Is home now following surgery in Port land on her vocal chords. She will be unable to use her voice for two weeks, and then she must return for additional sur gery. Spending two days this week in Portland on business and for medical appointments were Mr. and Mrs. Gar Swanson and Jim. Mr. and Mrs. Dick McElligott drove to Portland on Tuesday to pick up their son, Armv Avi ation Cadet John McElligott, who will be home for the holi days on leave from Texas. All Sunday School classes at Valby participated in a special program on Sunday evening which was entitled "God's Gift." Dessert was served following the program. Valby congrega tion is planning a Christmas Eve candlelight service to be held at their church beginning at 6:30 p.m. Mrs. Roy Lindstrom drove to the campus of Oregon State Un iversity this week to pick up her daughter Susan, for the Christmas vacation. Giye Gifts to Mission The Altar Society of St. Wil liam's Catholic Church was host ess for a Christmas party for all the youngsters in the church on Sunday. His son, Kenneth, is here now for a few days visit before he resumes classes at Lane Coun ty Community College in Eu gene. Karen, who is a student at O.S.U., also arrived home for the holidays. The Dealin' Dozen Pinochle club met at the home of Mrs. Wayne Hams last Wednesday evening. Mrs. Bob Harrison won high prize and Mrs. John Jep sen, low. The traveling pinoch le prize was won by Mrs. Pat Hammond. The hostess served a holiday suet pudding with hard sauce for dessert. A capacity crowd filled the lone United Church of Christ for the annual Primary program. The Deaconesses acted as host esses for the supper that fol lowed in the social rooms. La ter carolers rode around town on a hay wagon singing to shut ins and other residents. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Morter and children left by car for State Line, Pa., to spend Christ mas with members of his fam ily. Luncheon guests at the home of Mrs. Willard French last Thursday were Mrs. Harold Sherer. Mrs. Lee Palmer and Mrs. Marion Palmer. Guests on Friday were Mrs. Gary Tullis, Mrs. Clell Rea. and Mrs. John Jepsen. Following the lunch on both days the ladies spent the afternoon making Christmas decorations. Members of Rietmann's Hdw. Bowling team held a Christmas card party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Kincaid on Friday evening. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ball, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Barnett, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Meyers, and Larry Riet- j mann. i Legion Families Entertained Sunday At Christmas Party Members of the American Legion and Auxiliary, Post No. 87, entertained on Sunday, ve cember 17. with a Christmas party for their children. Kiddies were treated to car toons, movies, and sacks of treats during the afternoon, while parents were served cof fee and cookies. Auxiliary members held their regular monthly meeting Mon day, December 4. Business meet ings followed the regular pot luck dinner. Main item of business under discussion was the planning and serving of the Morrow County Grain Growers' annual Christ mas dinner, held on Friday, De cember 15. Officers Selected By Episcopal Group Episcopal Church Women of All Saints' Episcopal parish held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday. December 6. Mrs. Eddie Gunderson, presi dent, conducted the short busi ness meeting, during which election of new officers for the coming year was held. Newly elected president of the group is Mrs. Elwayne Bergs trom. Mrs. Don Turner will serve as vice-president and Mrs. Milo Prlndle was elected treasurer. Mrs. Clayton Sweek will serve the group as secretary- Mr. end Mi Eddi. Gunder. penjef0n Relatives Festive Progressive Dinner is Hosted In Homes of Jaycees Morrow county Junior Cham ber of Commerce members, wives, and guests enjoyed a progressive dinner and Christ mas dance on Saturday, Decem ber 16. The first course of the dinner, appetizers and snacks, was served to about 30 guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. For rest Burkenbine. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wilson were hosts for the second course, soup, at their home, and the main course of the dinner, ham, baked potatoes and salads, was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hoi lomon. Dessert of angel food cake with whipped topping was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Gray. The group later enjoyed games and dancing in the American Legion hall. Reception to Honor Newlywed Couple IOXE Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Evelyn Jepsen) Elder, who were married November 18 in the West Side Church of Christ in Eugene, are to be feted at a reception on Sunday, Decem ber 31, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Martin in lone. The Martins extended a cor dial invitation to all friends. relatives and former classmates to ereet the couole between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Immediately following the reception a reunion of the classs of 1961 and potluck supper will be held for the former class mates of the new Mrs. Elder. Christmas Observed By Bookworms Club Mrs. Virginia Turner enter tained members of her Book worms Club at nor home on Tuesday evening, December 12. Program for the evening was a contribution by each member of a poem or reading in keep ing with Chirstmas, as an an nual custom of the group. A gift exchange was held and refreshments were served by the hostess to Mrs. Gene Starks, Mrs. Florence Green, Mrs. Inez Erwin. Mrs. Lucy Peterson, Mrs. Fay Ferguson, Mrs. Helen Cur rin, Mrs. Justine Weatherford, Mrs. Ella Smith, Mrs. Madge Thomson, Mrs. Robert Abrams and special guest, Mrs. Don Turner. the week-end to keep a med ical appointment for their son, Doug. Santa Makes Visit At Wrangler Party Members of the Heppner Wranglers club and their guests en loved a potluck dinner ana Christmas nartv In the Wrang ler's building at the fair grounds on Sunday, December 10. About 50 cuests enloyed a gift exchange, sinclne of Christmas carols, and a surprise visit irom Santa Claus, who arrived with sacks of treats for everyone. Mrs. Harold Erwin was chair man of the afternoon program, and the dinner was served un der the direction of Mrs. Don Robinson, Mrs. Art Vance, and Mrs. Jerry Dougherty. Follensbees Visit In Portland Area Mr. and Mrs. Jim Follensbee and family traveled to Vancou ver on Saturday. December 9, to visit Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hobson and family, cousins of Mrs. rol-lensbee. On Sunday. Mrs. Follensbee participated in the state finals of the Bowl Down Cancer tour nament at Kellogg Bowl in Mil- waukie. They returned home Sunday evening. Visit Heddle Home Mr. and Mrs. Gall Heddle and daughter, accompanied by Mrs. Ileddle's parenls, Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Rudmacher of Pendleton, visited in limes last week-end ut the home of Mrs. Heddle' brother and sister-in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Clell Radmacher end family. The senior Radmachers trav eled on to Portland for several days of visiting and stopped in Heppner on their return home to visit at the Heddle home. Scott McMurdo of CorvallU spent last Tuesday until Satur day visiting at the home of his parents, Dr. ana jwrs. a. u. wc Kturdo. McOuarrie has re turned from Missoula, Mont., where she accompanied her mo ther, Mrs. Lucy Lehner, from Portland.
