December 14. 1967 S Heppner and lone Bill Three Games Another busy basketball week end Is in store for the Heppner High Mustangs with two games on the schedule, one at home and one away, and the lone High Cardinals have a single contest on the calendar. The Mustangs travel to Con don Friday night for a game with the Blue Devils in a non counting contest. The two squads always stage an inter esting game and many from the Heppner area will go to see them play, starting with the layvee contest at 6:30. On Saturday night the Mus tangs return home to play the Detector," Appleton. Topic Club members encour age the community to take ad vantage of the lone library fa cilities, especially the collection of Christmas "Idea" magazines on display. Masonic Lodge Hosts Dinner for School Men By DIANA KINCAID IONE A dinner honoring all the boys and men faculty at the high school was held at the Ma sonic hall last Wednesday even ing. Lewis Halvorsen, worship ful master of lone Masonic Lodge No. 20 of A.F. & A.M., presided at the dinner and pre sented the book, "Our Basic Ideals," to the lone High school library on behalf of the Mas ons. Following the dinner, which was prepared by the Eastern Star ladies and served by mem bers of the lone Rainbow As sembly, the group was shown a sports movie. Members of lone Topic Club met at the home of Mrs. Roland Bergstrom last Thursday to hear Mrs. Dorris Graves speak on Morrow county history. Mr. James West and Mrs. Ewing Hynd were assisting hostesses. Special guests for the afternoon were Mrs. Annie Keene and Mrs. Lonnie McCabe. . The Choralettes, under the direction of Darrell James, were featured on the program at the Monday evening meeting of the Lions Club. Members of Order of Eastern Star, Mrs. Herb Ekstrom, Sr., Mrs. Jim Barnett, Mrs. Kather ine Lindstrom and Mrs. Omar Rietmann, served chicken ala king to the members. Fifth and sixth graders of the lone United Church of Christ were invited to the home of their Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Bob Jepsen, on Sunday evening for a Christmas party. Tom White provided transpor tation for the children and as sisted with the games. By now all residents and visit ors should have noticed how festive the city looks with the blaze of lights on private homes, in stores, and above the streets. Eldon Tucker, assisted by Col umbia Basin Electric, put up the intersection lights and the star on the hill. With materials pur chased by the city, Tucker also built and installed the new lighted tree on the hillside above town. Chuck Nelson, Susan Jepsen, Keith Nelson, Ricky Boyce, and Kristin Nelson drove to the Nel son acreage in the mountain on Sunday afternoon to cut small trees to be decorated and placed in the rooms of the senior citi zens in Pioneer Memorial hospi tal. This is a project of the Unit ed Church of Christ high school class. Mr. and Mrs. Ewing Hynd left Tuesday for a holiday visit with their son, Major John Hynd, and family in Pennsylvania. Major Hynd Is continuing his studies at Pen State. The home of the late Mrs. Mary Swanson has been purch ased by Mr. and Mrs. Darrell James. The James family hopes to have the remodeling done and be moved in by Christmas. Church Program Sunday The lone United Church of Christ primary departme n t Christmas program will be held on Sunday, December 17, at 5:00. Immediately following the pro gram there will be a light sup per in the social rooms. Later there will be caroling around town for all who wish to join in the singing. A. C. Hynd broke his collar bone and suffered back injuries when he leu to tne ground as he was attempting to jump irom tne top oi a nay stack to a truck below. Mr. and Mrs. Earl McKinney and Alan of Hermiston were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Leland McKinney and family. Ray Boyce was taken to Hepp ner to the hospital on Tuesday morning. His condition is im proved but he is still not al lowed any visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Milt Morgan were hosts for a dinner party on Tuesday evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettyjohn, Sr. on their anniversary and Mike McCabe on his birthday. Other guests were Mrs. Mike McCabe and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mor gan. On Thursday Little Leslie Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hams was able to re turn home following treatment at Pioneer Memorial hospital. TONE SCHOOL NEWS On Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. the junior high team will play the Condon basketball squad here, then Saturday night the varsity team will travel to Athena to meet McEwen High school. . .
