At the next meeting, Decern, her 16, a Christmas party will be held with exchange of Rifts. The evening started with pot luck supper at 6:30. Hostesses were Mrs. Donovan and Mrs. I'hilllps. A special Rucst was Jim Thorpe and children Trina and Jodv of San Jose, Calif. Club Sets Dinner. Bazaar Home Economics Club of Greenfield Grange will sponsor a dinner and bazaar on Friday evening, December 1, at the GranRe hall. They will start serving the dinner at 5:30 p.m., and will be followed by a pro gram and the bazaar. Mrs. Ed Kuhn was hostess for the meeting of the Boardman Garden Club the first of last week at her homo. Roll call was answered by Riving the name of a favorite flowering shrub. The club voted a donation of $10 to be sent to the Eastern OrcRon State hospital in Pen dleton for Christmas Rifts. In a contest the prize was won by Mrs. Arthur Allen. Mrs, Frank Marlow received the door prize. Mrs. Roy Ball, Sr., presented an article on "Are coffee grounds beneficial to a garden.' A Christmas party with ex chanRe of gifts will be held at the next meeting December IS at the home of Mrs. Rollin Bish op. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Llndcll are the parents of an 8 lb., 6 oz, daughter, Deborah Ann, born November 20 in the Umatilla hospital. Grandparents are Mr, and Mrs. William Fairbanks of Portland, and Mr. and Mrs, Floyd Kelsey of Milwaukie. A miscellaneous shower was given at the Greenfield Grange hall November 21 in honor of Dee Wear, bride-elect of Kurt Gantenbein. Hostesses were Mrs. Rod Flug, Mrs. Bill Bates, Mrs. Dennis Gronquist and Mrs. Frank Bates. There were 35 present. In games played prizes were won by Mrs. Albert Farlow and Mrs. Wayne Kuhn. Miss Wear was assisted In opening her gifts by her sister, Mary Wear, and Mrs. Henry Gantenbein. Mrs. LaVern Partlow and Mrs, Steve Partlow went to Seattle, Wash., over a recent week-end to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Kress. They also vis ited Steve Partlow, who Is tak ing basic training lor the U. b Army at Fort Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Russell and children Dalene and Steve of The Dalles, were recent visitors at the home of Russells parents, Mr. and Mrs. Seth Russell, his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Russell, and Mrs. Russell's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey West. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Potts spent the week-end in La Grande at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Houston. Mr. and Mrs. Truman Messen ger, Jr., Hermlston, were recent visitors at the home of Messen gers' uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Zearl Gillespie. Mrs. Lovell Shattuck of Stan field was a recent overnight vis itor at the home of Mrs. Frank Marlow. Mr. and Mrs. Don Downey were hosts for a family dinner at their homo Thanksgiving Day. IRRIGON The November rm-eting of the Irrlgon city coun ell. with Marge Shade and Jon Henner absent, centered around progress on the proposed city water system. After hearing a report on wa ter project status from Mayor Chester Wilson, stating that ap plications for water service were coming in slowly, a resolution was adopted, aimed at getting the nevKsury support to get the protect underway. Since re payment of funds must be made directly from revenue, 4H serv ices will be required to finance the project, at the presently set minimum monthly charge of $5.95. Only 35 of this required number nave responded to ap peals for action, leaving 13 re maining. The resolution spelled out program where some, who have vacunt lots and no immediate plan to build, could underwrite the needed services and later be relieved of the guaranteed minimum payment as actual services were connected. This would allow the council to pro ceed with engineering, bonding, contracts, etc., and forestall the possibility of expiration of the period when approved. Federal funds are available. Some have expressed their willingness to cooperate in such a plan. Another related resolution gave the mayor power to sign social water use agreements with the Adventist and Catholic churches. Other public buildings used exclusively for meetings and related activities and hav ing its own meter could qual ify. Others presently within the City have situations that would not place them in this category as they have presently applied for service. A motion was passed above the mayor's protest stipulating that those served by the pres ent water supply, which was made available under an emer gency condition, be notified that this service would be discontin ued as of March 15, 1968, should the proposed water system be abandoned because of lack of subscribers and that no future funds would be allowed for its repair. Signing of a legal agreement with City attorney Donald Mor rison for anticipated services in connection with the water pro ject was deferred to a future meeting. FHA approval must be secured before the City can en ter into it. Also deferred to the next meeting was a tree-planting project along the highway through town. This would need to be submitted to the Highway Department for approval and cost data was lacking at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Leach and Ruby of Drain, were overnight visitors Saturday of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Isom. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Donald Eppcnbach, Mrs. Leach's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Max Jones and family and her father, Ver non Jones who returned to Drain with them Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson and family of Seattle, Wash., spent Wednesday through Sunday with his parents, Mayor and Mrs. Chester Wilson and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cayman and Vickie traveled to Lewlston, Wash., to spend Thanksgiving with her mother, Mrs. Nina Piatt, and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John Sealey of Lorvauis spent the holidays vis iting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Jones, and Bruce, who is nome on leave irom the Na vy. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Pummel and family had overnight visit ors Friday, her brother and sis te-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wa ters of Seattle. Wash. Guests at the home of Rev, and Mrs. John Kenney over Thanksgiving week-end were their nephew and niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sjostrom, Steve and Barbara, and another nephew, Dan Bu chanan, all of Seattle, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edgerly and two children left Monday alter spending the week visit- ng with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Edgerly. Also spend ing the week-end was Mr. and Mrs. David Edgerly and family of Enterprise. Mr. and Mrs. Al Edgerly and family of Pendle ton, and Mrs. Esther Young and family of Pendleton spent Sat urday with them. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Graybeal Thurs day was her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Al len, and family of Salem who were enroute to Spokane. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Shingledecker and family of Walla Walla stopped Wednesday enroute to Portland and stopped again Fri day on their way home. Spend ing Thanksgiving with her mo ther was Catherine Wanecek of Spokane, Wash., she left Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Stewart, Tom and Sharon, spent Thurs day and Friday In Portland vis iting her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Feed er, and family and her niece, Dannl Courtney. Tom Stewart and Dannl Courtney attended the auto show. Mrs. Ellen Reed er returned to Irrlgon with the Stewarts. Mr. and Mrs. Al Eppenbach and Betty drove to Ellensburg, Wash., Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Robert Slmms who were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Warner returned to Irrlgon Tuesday ar ter spendl n g Thanksgiving week-end with tneir son-m-iaw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Copcland and family at Bakersfield, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Ben McCoy left Wednesday for Vale to spend the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Eddy. They picked up their son Terry at La Grande where he Is a student at Eastern Oregon College. Menus for the A. C. Hough ton school for the week of Dec. 4-8. Mr. and Mrs. Henchel Town send of lone traveled to Port land Wednesday, November 22, to spend Thanksgiving Day with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Portschy, and Brent. Also joining them there was another daughter, Sue Townsend of Vancouver. The Townsends returned to lone on Friday, November 24, accom panied by their daughter Sue and grandson Brent, who spent two days visiting in lone. They returned to their homes Sun day, November 26.
