August 17. 1967 Golfers Travel To Elks Tourney By VIRGINIA KELSO KINZUA Several Kinzua Colters were among those who wont to La Grande for the week-end to participate in the Klks Golf tournament. Making the trip were Mr. and Mrs. James Hulett. Mr. and Mrs. Don Stinkard. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bailev, Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Hvati, Mr. and Mrs. Mark lei liok. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wham. Mr. and Mrs. Milt Boring. Mr. and Mrs. Don MoConnell. Mr. nnH Xfrs Allien Nistad and dau ghter Carol Miss Kathy Doty of Fossil, and Mr. and Mrs. Herb Wright of Fossil. more and Susan White. Mothers present were Ruth Jordan and Pat Van Arsdale. Mr. and Mrs. Earl N orris and Hersehel Murdock flew to Post Falls, Idaho Sunday to spend the dav with Mr. and Mrs. Kus tv MedKvk and family and to help Rusty celebrate his birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Doyal Hubbell were business visitors to Milt-on-Freewater on Saturday. Visiting last Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank DeMeritt were Mr. and Mrs. Addison Madison of Woodland, Wash., and Miss Kave Adams of Prineville. Mrs. Madison is Mr. PoMeritt's sis ter. Mary. Last Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mayfield of Port landg visited at the DoMeritts. Mr. and Mrs. James Walker were business visitors to Port land Friday, going on to Gari baldi to do some fishing. Week-end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Perry were Mr. and Mrs. Rosooe Rush and fam ilv of Cascade Locks and Mr. and Mrs. Brooks Hall of Mt. Ver non. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cody and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Barzee spent last week-end picking huckleberries at Desolation. Mrs. Arden Tripp went to Stanfield Wednesday to take Tom Tripp. Mike and Steven Ball to work in the watermel ons. Mrs. Meldia Fawcett ac companied her back to Kinzua for a visit. Mrs. Roy Keller and daughters and Mrs. Marvin Hines were business visitors to Heppner Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Oyler went to Pendleton last Wednesday where Paul had medical care and then returned to Pendleton Thursday where he entered St. Anthony hospital for knee sur gery on Friday morning. He was visited on Saturday by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rice and children and Mrs. Oyler and son Don. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Ekstrom and children of Bend were Thursday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Nistad. Mr. and Mrs. Arden Tripp and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Benson and children and Linda Browning spent the week-end on a camping and fishing trip near Bates. Mrs. Guy Van Arsdale and children and Karen and Earl Mortimore were in Heppner last Wednesday for business and shopping. The Friendship Club was en tertained last Wednesday even ing at the Grade school with Deena Reid as hostess. High was won by Sharon Bell, low by Ruth Jordan, and pinochles by Barbara Mortimore and Pat Mc Minn. Others playing were Sue Mattison, Naomi Rice, Dinah Jackson, Terry Todd, Rose Mer ry Nelson, Pat Van Arsdale, and Carol Norris. Richard Mortimore was in Portland for medical care. There are two new families at Camp 5. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gross and children Kathy and Lonnie moved to Camp 5 from Spokane. He is employed at the factory and is a nephew of Mrs. Red Hulett. The second family is Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wimer who moved to Kinzua from The Dalles and then on to Camp 5. He is a truck driver and they have seven children: Kevin, Le roy, J. T., Jimmy, Elbert, Pen ny, and Annette. Mrs. Ray O'Neal was hostess Friday to a birthday party for her daughter Susan on her fifth birthday. Helping Susan cele brate were brothers Jim and Rick, Gary Todd, Craig, Leslie and Tina Jordan, Steven and Mjke Van Arsdale, Earl Morti- Couple Attends School in By DONNA EPPENBACH IRRIGON Mr. and Mrs. Mich ael G. Tolar returned home August 1 after spending six weeks in Hawaii where they i both attended summer classes at the University of Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Isom re turned home August 2 after completing a three week vaca- ' tion. They spent the time camp- ; ing in various place including the Bend area, the McKcnzie river, the Crooked River and Deschutes River. , Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hunt's of Colton. Calif., are visiting their son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. James Keith. Jr. Re turning with them was Vicky Keith who had spent the sum mer with them. Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Lathrop returned recently from a 10-day vacation trip which took them ; to Reno. New. Lake Tahoe. Nov., San Francisco, Calif., and points on the Oregon coast. The summer library program i at the A. C. Houghton school : will be closed after August 16. I Miss Marion Monroe o New ! Westminister, Canada, has been ' visiting at the home of her unc- le and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. Er nest Jorgensen for the last month. She will return home at the end of this month. Mr. and Mrs. Don Stocks, Don nie and Sherrie of Tacoma, Wash., spent several days re cently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don Leighton and family. They also visited Mrs. Stock's grandmother. Sedalia Dexter. Mr. and Mrs. David Rand and family of Portland visited re cently at the home of his par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Batie Rand. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Pummel and Darrel fished recently on the Deschutes river. Mrs. Andrew Skiles was ad mitted to The Dalles Mid Col umbia hospital August 3. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith had as visitors last week his broth er-in-law and sister. They spent some time fishing in the river and caught a 40-inch sturgeon. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bartlett traveled to Dayville over the week-end to attend a class re union of classes 1953 to 1958. Mr. Bartlett was a graduate of the Class of 1956. Donald Lee Leighton fell, struck a door and cut his face under the left eye. The wound required four stitches to close. Anita Pummel and Donna Kay Pummel left August 5 to visit with their grandmother, Mrs. Beulah Pummel at Port land, and then on to Salem to visit with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Frankie Pummel and family. They planned to spend a week before returning home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Lee of La Grande visited Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Rees Morgan.
