Mr. and Mrs. Winters had the pleasure of attending a reception for Sen ator Morse and enoycd hear ing Hip articulate Senator ex press himself on various issues. Winters also hud the opHr tunlty of attending a luncheon In honor of Senator Hatfield, and with his friend, the Jess brothers, had an Interesting talk with the Senator and his wife. Family Spends Week In Medford; Help With Fair Judging Mr. and Mrs. One Winters, Pat and Stephanie, spent the week of July 23 to 30 In Med ford visiting and attending var ious events In connection with the Jackson County Kalr. Mm. Winters judged 4 II Home Im provement project and Home KconomlcH demonstrations dur ing the five days of 4 II Home Kconomlea Week, July 21 thru 2H. They stayed part of the week with former neighbors and friends. Mr. and Mrs. W. Ward and family, and for the remain der of the week at the home of two friends, William Jesg and George Jess, Jr. According to Mm. Winters, ghter enjoyed a June stay of al most a week at lloqulam. Wn., where they visited Mrs. ErwiiVi brother In law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. George Martinson and family, and had trips to the port of WestiMirt and the reaort of Ocean Snores. At the end of June and over the Kourth of July, the Kr wins vacationed with their hor ses at Wallowa Lake. They rented a cabin and were hosts to relatives and friends during their stay. Among the visitors were Mrs. Duckworth of Clar!i ton, Wn., Mr. and Mrs. Ceorge Martinson and family of Hoq u In in and Mm. Hoy Lusk and daughter of Walla Wulla. The ladies are all sisters of Mrs. Kr wln. Shirley Clark was able to come from l.a Grande to visit with the family over the Kourth. Relatives Visited On Summer Trips Summer trip have leen en joyed by Mm. Lena Kelly with visits to homes of relatives In Colorado and California. In Juno she accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Hob Kelly of Umatilla to Mon trose, Colo., where thpy were guests of her brother-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mm. Harry Kelly. Knroute they traveled through Wyoming, enjoying the scenic Yellowstone Park. Mm. Kelly returned Saturday from an extended bus trip to California with her sister, Mm. II. K. I'fell, of Salem. They were guests of another alster. Mm. Marvin Gaarde, at Muhphya, Calif., and visited a cousin, Mm. Annie Webster, at San Bruno. A highlight of their trip won tlte opportunity to enloy the personal appearance snow of the Lawrence Welk show at Luke Tuhoe. In Salem ahe visited Mr. and Mrs. K. K. Hughes, and waa brought home by Mr. and Mrs. i'feil on Saturday. Travelers Enjoy Trip To Scenic Vancouver A combined lioat and auto trip to Vancouver Island, B. C, provided n plfAHiircful vacation trln this month fur Mrs. Wavel Wilkinson, her brother In law and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Hay Schcrlnger of Riverside, Calif, and a friend. Mrs. Mary Rob ertson of West Linn. The group returned to Oregon last week, after enjoying the beautiful scenery along the eastern coastline of Vancouver Island. After ferrying from Van couver across the strait to Nan lino, they traveled north by car to Kelsey Hay, finding the Is land roads and scenery excel lent. At Victoria, B C, at the south ern tip of the Island, they visit ed a former Hcppncr resident. Mrs. Frances Blunt, whose late husband, Rev, Neville Blunt, was a former rector of All Saints' Episcopal church. They came by ferry from Vic toria to Port Angeles, Wn., and returned to Portland along the Washington coastal route. The evening started with supper at ix o'clock. The pro gram was presented by the Jun ior Grange and their matron, Mrs. John Phillip. They did two square dances, "lied River Valley" and "Loop le-Loo", and sang "We Are the Grangers of the Future." Neta, Rita ond Toena Phillips sang the open ing song. During the business session a resolution was passed to write to State Highway Commission thanking them for spraying weeds In the county In the past, and to ask them to re-establish the spruying program. The reso lution committee included Ken neth Smouse and Cecil Jones from Lexington Grange, and Nathan Thorpe from Greenfield Guests included Bob Coble, Baker, state deputy, and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith and Mrs. Skip McDale from Columbia Grange. Coble spoke on grange rituals, pointing out the mis takes that are made. Mrs. Mc Dole spoke on Bureau of Land Management lands in Morrow county, and asked the grange qnd individuals to write letters to the BLM office by August VZ asking them to withhold the land from sale and to transfer It to the Bureou of Reclamation Irrigation project The grange voted to do this. Mrs. Chub Warren was In charge of the dinner assisted by members of the Home Econom ics Club. Jayceettes Schedule Projects for August Several Items of buslnea were under discussion at the monthly meeting of the Hepp ner Jayceettes, held Thursday, July 1, at the home of Mrs. Irene Samples, with Mrs. Dor othy Wilson presiding. An outline of work schedules, and supplies needed for equip ping the 4 II Snack Shack dur ing the rodeo were discussed. Suggestions were also made for float for the parade, and the Ideas will be presented at the next Jaycee meeting for decls Ions. A committee was named to sell concessions at the Queen's Coronation ceremony's on Aug ust 12. The next meeting, on August 18, will bo held at the home of Mrs. Shirley Gray. Tad Naddarman, son of Dr. and Mrs. Vernon Nedderman of Portland, la a guest this week of a close friend, Buck Jones, son of Dr. and Mrs. Greaid Jones. The boys, who have at tended school together In Port land, are enjoying some vaca tion trips this summer In Wash ington and Oregon. They are ac companying Buck's parents on a five-day back pack trip Into the Wallowa Mountains, leav ing here on Wwlnr.di Ing. Friends Here View Sever insens on Show Friends In Heppner and Mor row county had the pleasure of watching Doc Severlnsen and eldest daughter, Nancy, appear on the Mike Douglas television show on Wednesday, July 26. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Spaulding, who had previously had a tele phone call from Mrs. Severln son Informing them of the show, received numerous calls from friends while it was in progress. Many had happened to catch the event and thought the Spauldlngs might miss It. Mrs. Soaulding said Severln- sen appeared in jeans and ten nis shoes since those were the fanciest clothes he had with him on a horse-training trip. Producers of the show displayed the whole ensemble In full length and led into a discus slon of Severinsen'a horse-train ing business at the family farm In Warwick, N. Y. Several horses were In special training at a farm near Balti more, which specializes in jumping, and Robin, Cindy and Allen Scverlnsen were staying at the farm and participating In the training. Severinson him self was there when called for his guest appearance on the MIKe Douglas show. Nancy Severinsen traveled from Warwick to the studios to be on the program and surprls ed her dad. Thursday, August 3, 1967 Two Organizations Join in Fun Evening Legionnaires and Heppner firemen collaborated on Satur day, July 15, to throw a "ball" for their respective members and guests. A good crowd at tended the party which was held in the newly refurbished Legion HalL Jukebox dancing, a smorgas bord table and refreshments of all kinds added to the gaiety of the evening with guests linger Ing until late. Those planning and working ahead of time to get things ready included Legionnaires Don Munkers and Jerry Rood and Firemen Forrie Burken- bine and Charlie Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Green left by train last week for Min neapolis, Minn., where they will Join their son, Lawrence, who has been spending the early part of the summer in a study project there. The son drove back in June, and his parents will return with him In his car stopping at scenic points of In terest along the way. Mrs. Harlan McCurdy. Jr, is enjoying a few weeks visit with relatives In Minnesota, bhe leii by plane last Tuesday to spend some time with her mother, Mrs. Parma Nelson at Waseca, Minn., and with several other relatives In the area. Carolyn and Danny remained here for the week. Visitors Monday included Mr. and Mrs. Lester Albertson of liedlands, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Ranny and Mrs. Gert rude Shaw of Pendleton. Mrs. Shaw is Warren's sister. Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Bishop went to The Dalles Thursday of last week to visit at the home of Mrs. Bishop's sister-in-law, Mrs, Jack. Chronicle, whose son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Chronicle and sons Gary and Greg, were there from Sacramento, Calif. Mrs. Esther Emmons and Eva LaChance of La Grande were recent week-end visitors at the home of their sister, Mrs. Glen Carpenter. Mrs. Frank Marlow returned home Monday from a ten-day trip to Sacramento, Calif., where homes of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie George Schrader, and at the sue visited her cousin, Mrs. Wooley and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Woolley, former residents here.
