"State sales for May totaled $2,606,893 as compared with $2,677,779 a year ago," he con tinued. "State sales for the January through May period add up to $14,883,999 as compared with sales of $14,429,961 for the first five months last year. "National sales for may were $438 million as compared with $413 million for May of last year, a six percent increase." Reports received by the Sav ings Bonds Office in Portland show that there Is quite a lot of interest shown through the Pay roll Savings Plan in the new Freedom Share Savings Notes that pay 4.74' percent interest when held to maturity.
