Style Show is Success
About 75 persons attended the
Style Show held last Thursday
night at the new Dodge City
lounge. Mrs. Joe Tatone was in
charge of the affair which was
sponsored by the Boardman Til
licum Club. Mrs. LaVern Part
low, club president, gave the in
troduction. A silver donation re
ceived is to be applied toward
a scholarship lor a Riverside
High school student. Total tak

The Knack Shack, operated by
Mrs. Tatone and her daughter
Linda, supplied the clothes
which were modeled. They in
cluded street dresses, coats,
sports clothes and beach togs.

Assisting Mrs. Tatone were
Marilyn Ross of Hermiston, who
coached all the models; Caro
line Cowan of Milton -Freewa-ter,
who helped with the make
up; and Netti Schultz of Mc
Nary, who assisted with both
the models and make-up.
Following the show the club
served refreshments with Mrs.
Ron Daniels in charge of the
table. Mrs. Ralph Skoubo had
the guest book. Mrs. Ronald
Black poured the coffee, and
Mrs. Vernon Russell served the
punch. Other club members as
sisted with the serving.
Entertainment included solos
by Mrs. Wayne Kuhn. "Moon
light and Roses," and "Up The
Lazy Kiver", with honky-tonk
piano accompaniment, and ba
ton twirling by Denice Henkle,
Roberta Sicard, Davene David
and Melodie Risley, a group
being taught by Linda Tatone
and Vivian Phillips.
Door prizes were won by Mrs.

ons and Mrs. Bob Sawyer.
The Boardman Tillicum Club
met Tuesdav nieht of last week
at the home of Mrs. Zoe Billings
with Mrs. Bernard Donovan as
co-hostess. Final plans were
made for the Style Show held
Thursday night.
Mrs. Ronald Black reported a
total of $183 had been received
for the cancer drive so far, but
more collections were expected.
The club voted to donate 25
toward a 4-H scholarship for
summer school.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Black May 23,
at 8 p.m.
The Home Economics Club of
Greenfield Grange met Wednes
day of last week at the grange
hall with dinner served at 12:30.
Hostesses were Mrs. Donald Ba
ker and Mrs. Chub Warren. Vis
itors were Mrs. Rollin Bishop
and Mrs. Bill Bates.
A thank you letter was read
from the Tillicum Club for the
dinner served the O.F.W.C. dis
trict convention recently.
Mrs. Arthur Allen reported on
the Boardmano Park district,
stating state funds had to be
matched, and a local election
would probably be held.
Mrs. Ronald Black reported on
the cancer drive conducted by
the Tillicum Club.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Gene Risley
June 14 with Mrs. Frank Mar
low as co-hostess.
Mrs. Elvin Ely, Mrs. Arnin
Hug and Mrs. Harold Rash
went to Pendleton last Thursday
where Mrs. Ely was honored
with a birthday dinner at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Anderegg. Other guests includ
ed Mr. and Mrs. Earl Briggs and
Mrs. Hugh Brown ol Pendleton.
Mrs. Joe Tatone received a
free plane trip to Seattle, Wash,
last week given to her by the
Portland Home Decorator Center
where she chose all her lamps
and pictures to be put in the
new motel being built by the
Tatone's, which will be part of
the Dodge City.

man Grade School met last
Thursday at the school with
Mrs. Delmer Hug as hostess. Fi
nal plans were made for the
May Day program being held
May 18 at 1 p.m. at the school
gymnasium. Following the pro
gram a tea will be held by the
children for their mothers. Mrs.
Bob Sicard and Mrs. Bob Hutch
ings will be in charge of the
table with the children assist
ing. Mrs. Stan Henkle is in
charge of the flowers.
The club recently sponsored
a train ride to Pendleton for the
grade school pupils and the kin
dergarten with a picnic later at
the Til Taylor park. Accompany
ing them were club members

Mrs. Stan Henkle, and teachers

dinner with their son-in-law and

Teachers Hired
For Heppner High
Teachers tentatively hired for
positions at Heppner High
school, subject to approval by
the Morrow County School Dis
trict board, include Jack Simp
kins, former Echo High school
teacher, and Miss Alice Riley
of Salt Lake City, Utah, Prin
cipal Dick Carpenter said last
week.
Simpkins who has taught at
Echo for six years, will teach
business education at Heppner
High. He is married and has
five children.
Principal Carpenter and Jack
Sumner, a district director, went
to Salt Lake City recently to in
terview Mrs. Riley for the po
sition here. She has been teach
ing at Wasatch Academy at Mt.
Pleasant, south of Prow.
If these are confirmed by
the school board, there will be
only a few positions left to fill
in the system at the present
time.
Spaulding Elected
To Association Post
Carl Spaulding, manager of
Heppner TV, Inc., has been
elected secretary-treasurer of
the Pacific Northwest Commu
nity TV Association, Inc.
I he association has some 160
members from television cable
systems in Oregon, Washing
ton, Montana, Idaho and Cal
ifornia. Annual meeting of the asso
ciation was held recently in the
Ridpath Hotel, Spokane, and
Spaulding was chosen for the
position at this time.

Irrigon Council
Hears Proposals
For City Budget

IRRIGON The budget for the
Citv of Irrigon was adopted for
fiscal year 1967 68 in the
amount of $10,490.00. of which
$3,915.00 is in the State Street
fund. Being within the 6 lim
itation, no election was neces
sary. The public hearing for the
regular council meeting date
drew no one outside the budg
et committee for protest or com
ment. Also presented was a supple
mental budget for 1967-68 to
cover the cost of construction of
a proposed basic water system
for the citv. This supplemental
budget in the amount of $67,500
is based on an anticipated loan
and grant from Farmers Home
Administration Final hearing
and adoption Is scheduled for
after July 1. An election to au
thorize the council to Issue rev
enue bonds to cover the loan
in the amount fo $36,000 will
be held soon.
Several maehlnerv represonta
tives were present to deliver
tids and attend bid opening on
a replacement unit back hoe
loader for the city. Four firms
submitted bids and two had ai
ternates. Apparent low bid was
submitted on an alternate by
Mountain Machinery Co. of Pen
dleton on a new A C machine
of 1960 model for a difference
price of $6,191.09. including in
terest and insurance during the
3-year rental purchase period.

ferred to a special meeting May

ted by Campbell Ford, Carol Ad
ams, Case, and Preston Ford of
Hermiston, Walla Walla, and
Pasco respectively.
Mayor Wilson reported that
Morrow County had sent equip
ment over and covered the land
fill and that the highway main
tenance superintendent and
State Board of Health District
office had been informed of this
by letter. Beinhauer reported
trash being dumped in the des
ert behind his place. The May
or informed the council that it
is every citizen's duty not only
to report these incidents but to
furnish evidence they may
have to convict violators of san
itation laws.
Also coming up for discus
sion and criticism were: squir
reling drivers cutting up gravel
intersections and endangering
children, accumulation of rub
bish and kitchen waste being
emptied into open ditches. Ci
tations were recommended for
violations. Absent from the
meeting was Councilman Max
McKay.

mother, Mrs. Vera Cooley and
Mrs. Burrell Cooley. Guests were

The Irrigon Assembly of God
held a special missionary serv
ice Wednesday evening with the
Rev. Paul Chastagner, mission
ary from Upper Volta. He show
ed colored slides and had open
discussion on the country he
represents.
Mr, and Mrs. Jiggs Lathrop
traveled to Portland Sunday to
attend the Trailer Show. They
stopped in The Dalles and Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Smith accom
panied them.
Carol Lathrop spent the week
end in Eugene visiting with his
brother, John Lathrop.
Mr. and Mrs. William Gray
beal traveled to Walla Walla,
A'n., last Wednesday to visit at
the home of their son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Dale Shingledecker and boys.
They returned home Sunday.
Dave Graybeal suffered cuts
and abrasions and broken teeth
in an accident at his home last
Thursday when a sprayer ex
ploded in his face. He had sev
eral stitches taken.
Mrs. Frank Stewart of Island
City, visited her mother, Mrs.
Ruth McCoy over the week-end.
Sunday visitors at the home
of Mrs. Josie Buchanan was her
granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth
Munger and children.
Mrs. Betty Schmedere was the
week-end guest of her son-in-law
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Stevens of St. Helens.
Graduation was held last
Thursday evening for 17 kinder
garten students of Mrs. Marilyn
Hellberg at the A. C. Houghton
School. They presented a pro
gram and refreshments were
served.
Mrs. Ellen Reeder traveled to
La Grande last Tuesday and vis
ited at the home of her dau
ghter, Mrs. Doris Courtney and
family. She returned Wednes
day and Mrs. Floriene McMas-
ters accompanied her home and
spent the week.
Mrs. Evangeline Franerstrom
of Santa Cruz, Calif., visited
with her son-in-law and dau
ghter, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wil
son and family last week. She
was on her way to Juneau,
Alaska, to see two of her sons.
On the way she stopped in Se
attle and visited her grandchild
ren, Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson
and family and Mrs. Grace Bart
lett and family. Mrs. Fagers
trom was an early resident of
Irrigon having moved here with
her parents in the fall of 1908.

Section 1. That a proposed
amendment to the charter of the
Citv of Heppner be submitted
to the legal voters of the City
of Heppner, Morrow tounty,
Oregon, for their adoption or re
jection and a special municipal
election be held as herein pro
vlded.
Section 2. That the date of
the special municipal election
when the proposition to author
ize the sale of $110,000.00 gen
eral obligation bonds shall be
submitted to the voters is the
31st dav of May, 17. and that
the polling place be and here
by Is designated as the former
Library Room of the City of
Heppner City Hall on Willow
Street of said citv and the polls
for the rece pt of ballots shall
be opened at the hour of 8:00
o'clock A.M.. Pacific Daylight
Time and closed at the hour of
5:00 o'clock P.M.. Pacific Day
light Time, on said date.
Section 3. That the following

gon, that the charter of said
city be amended by adding
thereto Article VI to read as
follows:
ARTICLE VI

the City of Heppner, Morrow
County, Oregon, is hereby au
thorized, empowered and dir
ected to issue and sell general
obligation, negotiable coupon
bonds of said city in a sum
or sums not to exceed $110,
000.00. Said bonds are to be
used for the purpose of mak
ing improvements, reconstruc
tion, betterment and repairs
to the municipal swimming
pool. Said bonds are to be in
denominations of $1,000.00
duly signed by the Mayor and
countersigned by the city re
corder, whereby the City of
Heppner promises to pay the
bearer of each of said bonds
at maturity thereof the sum
therein stated in lawful mon
ey of the United States of
America, with interest there
on in like lawful money at
a rate not to exceed 6 per
annum payable semi-annual
ly, each of said bonds to be
a General Obligation of the
City of Heppner, and to be
dated at a convenient time to
be fixed by the common coun
cil to mature serially, as de
termined by the council, pro
vided that the date of matur
ity shall not in any event ex
ceed 20 years from the date
