FREDERICK MARTIN District Clubs Name Director to 2nd Term At Spring Convention Mm. F. T. Martin of lone was reelected for a second two-year term as dlstrid director of Blue Mountain District No. 10, Ore gon Federation of Garden Clubs, at the annual spring meeting at tho Klks Lodge In Pendleton on Wednesday, April 19. Host esses for tho meeting were members of throe clubs, the I'enilleton Garden Club, the Dirt Dabblers and Total Push em. Mm. Charles Dallas served as general chairman. Mm. Harold S. Huber, Hepp. nor, was chosen for tho office of secretary-treasurer for the district. By laws for the district were adopted. About R5 members and guests registered during the day from garden clubs throughout tho district. Hoi! call was taken by clubs with annual reports giv en by tho presidents. A coffee hour at 9:00 a.m. owned the day's activities. Displays of spring flowers attracted Interest, as well as a plant exchange and white elephant sale. With an arrangement of pink stock and white tulips from her yard, Mrs Martin won first prize in the fresh flower show. A bou quet of deep red roses made from velour paper won for Mm. Alma Rohrman the first prize In the artificial flower ar ranging contest. Mm. Martin called the meet ing to order, with Roger Atkin son giving the Invocation. Mrs. Charles Dallas, general chair man, gave the speech of wel come. The following state officers were Introduced. Mm. Marvin Ambuhl. president, and Mrs. .1 K. Olson, recording secretary, both of Lake Oswego; Mm. Richard Westorfleld, second vice president, Ashland; Mm. Claude Mills, visiting gardens chair man. Lake Grove. Also present was Claude Mills, state horticulture workshop chairman. He showed slides of the new Japanese garden In Washington Park, Portland, and pictures of landscape designs, various spcles of flowers and trees. Attention was called to work of garden clubs In supporting the "litterbug" campaign to keep tho nation's highways clean, and also the roadside beautification drive. An invitation was extended by tho Kcho Garden Club to hold the next spring meeting, ami was accepted by the mem bers. Door prizes brought by Mr. Mills and Mr and Mrs. Yancey of Blue Mountain Nursery In MlltonFreewater, were drawn for nnd distributed. The Hound-Up motif was used by the hostess clubs In decor ting the dining room and on tho tables for the noon lunch-con. Pine City Extension Unit Elects Officers; Supports 4-H Club Mrs. Tom Ashbeck presided at the regular meeting of the Pine City extension unit at her own home Wednesday, April 12. It was nn all day mooting with a potluck luncheon at noon. Mrs. Jerry Meyers, 4-H chair man of the unit, reported on the nmcpow nf thn Plrm Pltu Community 4-H club. Mrs. Bill tieniy is the leader. Eighteen members are carrying horse and livestock nroloots. Thov meet the third Thursday of the month ana are presently planning a trail ride. Mrs. Ashbeck and Mrs. Wei den Witherrito presented the discussion of the day emphasiz ing the common sense items to check before calling a service man to repair a major appli ance. During the social hour the 16 members honored Mrs. Bob Mc Carty with a pink and blue shower. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Abrams, Everett. Wash., visited at the homo of their son and family, tho Bob Abrams, over the weekend. Couple Announces Recent Marriage Miss Susan Ann Vale, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Moll L. Vale of Portland, became the bride of James Austin Morris, son of Mrs. FJdgar Morris, Hepp nor, on Friday, April 14. Vows were exchanged at the Trinity Lutheran church In Vanvouver, Wn., In the prov-nce of rela tives and close friends. Attending the couple were the bride's sister and the groom's brother, Clifford (Kip) Morris, Pendleton. Following the reception, the newlyweds loft for a short wed ding trip to the const, and are now at home near Beaverton. Both bride and groom are em ployed by insurance companies In Portland. Among those attending the wedding were the groom's bro thers In-law and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Nolan and Mr and Mrs. Dan Brosnan, and Dean Lovgren. Visitors of the home of Mr. and Mrs. BUI Farra on Wed nesday and Thursday, April 19 and 20. were Mm. Farra's unc les and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. F.manuel Hochhalter and Mr and Mm. Banks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mel Banks, Pendleton. A 1965 graduate of Heppner High school, Kathy was a cheer leader and honor student. She attended Blue Mountain Com munity College and Is now em ployed as a technician at East ern Oregon State hospital and Training Center In Pendleton.
