MISS CINNYLOrj TURNER Turners Announce Daughter's Betrothal Mr. and Mrs, Don Turner are announcing the engagement of Ihelr daughter, Virginia Lou, to Douulas Burpee of Bloomfleld Hills, Mich., son of Mr. and Mrs. Kobcrt I Burpee. Miss Turner la a Junior In ed ucation at the University of Oregon, and a member of Kan pa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mr. Burpee was graduated last June from the University, majoring In business administration, and Is a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He Is presently em ployed with General Motors In Detroit, Mich., and Is scheduled to complete Marino Officers' flight training In June. The couple is planning a June wedding. Queen and King Rule Over Gay Festivities Of Sweetheart's Ball Verlna French and Bob Har ris were crowned Queen and King of the Sweetheart's Ball Saturday, February 27. Each re ceived flfts, presented by Al fred Drake and Teresa Harsh man. Others on the court were Carol Rawlins, Jill Schmidt, Donna Potter, Kay Daggett, Al Ivn Wltherrite, Stan Rauch, Steve Wagenblast and Mike Al "up.. A good-sized crowd attended the ball which was held in the high sch(K)l rafetorlum. Invita tions were extenned to lone, lilverslde and Condon High schools. Most of the out-of-town puests present came from lone IIlRh. Members of the FHA and FFA had decorated the room with red, pink and white dec orations. A fountain at the back of the room was surrounded by Individual tables covered with red, white and pink paper. Oth er decorations consisted of a sweetheart's tree, red hearts, and a false partition of crepe paer at the far end of the room. Music was provided by the Morning Reign of Salem, who played as many slow songs as fast numbers for the semi-formal dance. FHA p esldent Jill Schmidt expressed thanks to the chap crones for their help, and to all the students who attended. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Struck meler visited their son Dick nt Northwest Christian College In Kugene during Parents' week end, February 18 and 19. They stopped en route to visit their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mm. Lee Welher and fam ily, In McMlnnvllle. The Struck melers rcturncd home by way of the Clear Lake cutoff and the McKen.le highway and rec ommend the trip for Its scenic beauty. Members had the pleasure of Initiating two new girls Marie Van Marter and Mi chelle Laikin. He Is presently employed in Salem. A June wedding Is being planned by the couple. school. Main Item under discussion was the hiring of a new kinder garten teacher for next fall to replace Mm. Elmer Schmidt who is moving to Hermlston. It was agreed to try to find a certified elementary teacher who would be willing to teach both class es of kindergarten. Mm. Lylc Jensen and Mm.
