February 6. Also traveling from Snlem with these men will be Har old Miller, prominent nursery man, who will talk on land leaping designs for our area. The first meeting for these three gardening specialists will be a t the Ileppner Morrow County Chamber of Commerce noon luncheon. At 2:00 p.m. they will hold a clinic nt the lone I'nlted Church of Christ, and nt 8:0(1 p.m. they will hold a similar clinic at the Heppner Christian church. There will be coffee hours following the af ternoon and evening meetings to give guests an opportunity to meet mid ask them ques tions. The guest speakers are being brought to the county by the lone Garden club, which cor dially Invites all gardeners, men, women or young people, to come and participate In the meetings. They are sponsored by the Oregon Association of Nurserymen, which is furnish ing many worthwhile door priz es of roies and shrubs awarded. Mr. Mills is a well-known lecturer and horticulturist, has appeared many times in lec tures on Portlund TV Channels 2 and 8. The men will tell their story with illustrations and col ored slides, relating them pri marily to conditions in this area. Many Enjoy Altar Card Party Monday A good attendance respond ed to the Invitation of St. Pat rick's Altar Society for Its pub lic card party Monday evening at the parish hall. Pinochle players were In the majority, with 13 tables of pinochle and five tables of bridge In piny during the evening, which prov ed enjoyable to nil. Prizes of homemade cakes, pies and cook ies were very popular with prize winners at the close of the eve ning. Mis. N. H. Fermerling was awarded the door prize, a beau tifully decorated Valentine cake. , Prizes for bridge went to Mrs. C. C. Carmlchael, high; Mrs. Ted Smith, second high, and Mrs, David McLeod, low, Holding high score In pinoch le was Mrs. Don McElllgott; Mrs. Blanche Sheelar of Salem, second high, and Mrs. Bob Stengall, low. Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Pat O'Brien, Mrs. Glen Ward, Mrs. Tim Moore, Mrs. J. G. Stephens, and Mrs. Kundy Lolt Tin ker and accompanied by her grandmother, Mm. Cleo Drake. The Italnbow girls honored their member. Bonnie llynd, who Is a past Grand Choir member ami a Grand Representative, with an addendum. Kach mem ber told of some accomplish ment of Bonnie during her year as a Rainbow girl and each girl at the color station pre sented her with a rainbow hued ribbon for her Bible. The Wor thy Advisor presented Bonnie with a Grand Choir pin and a Grand Representative pin. Bon nie told the group of her exper ience corresponding with the ptrl In West Virginia, who is Grand Representative to Ore ron, and In June will make a full report to the Grand Assem bly In Corvallls. Special guesta present and Introduced were the new worthy Ida Grabill Feted On 85th Birthday At Family Gathering Another happy milestone was passed by Mrs. Ida Grabill on Sunday, when members of her family gathered at her home In lone to honor her with a large birthday dinner, and to congratulate her upon her 85th birthday. Mrs. Grabill had reached her 8.rth birthday the day before, January 28., Mrs. Grabill has been a life time resident of the lone com munity, born In a small vill age near the present town of lone on January 28, 1882. She was the daughter of Milton and Mary K. (Spcrry) Hale, Morrow county pioneers, and was one of 12 cl ildren, four of whom are still living. Members of her family plan ned the gathering and pot luck dinner, with her two daughters, Mrs. Kverett Kelthley of Con don and Mrs. Kdmond Bristow of lone, and their husbands, as honor hosts. Those attending were Mr. und Mrs. Bristow and Donald, Gene Grabill, Mr. and Mrs. Rob vt Harrison and Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Kverett Kelthley, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Kelthley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Er nest McCabe and family, Mrs. Yaunlta Schulz and Marie, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wright and the guest of honor. While Debbie was away at neighbor Don Greenup'a home, two carloads of youngsters ar rived at the Bennett home and slipped upstairs to surprise her. The guests remained for re freshments and to see movies taken by Sue Greenup of class field trips. They were Joined here by Mrs. Bert Wright and daughter Kel 11 of Cove, who returned to Sa lem with them on Sunday. Elks Lodge Delegates Attend Mid-Winter Session in Albany Heppner Lodge No. 358, BPOE, was represented at the Oregon State Elks' Association Mid winter Session in Albany by Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Daggett, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Agee, and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wkd. The session was held from Thursday through Saturday, January 19-21. Guest speaker during the meeting was Raymond Dobson, grand exalted ruler of Minot, N. Dak. Considerable business came before the session. Includ ing a review of the state eye clinic program and the Veter ans' Hospital programs. Dele gates attended a banquet Fri day evening. Daggett attended in the ca- tacity of exalted ruler of the oca! lodge, and Agee as es teemed leading knight. Ward served as chairman of the auditing committee of north east Oregon, and LaVerne Van Marter, who was unable to at tend the Albany meetings, is chairman of the nominating committee of northeast Oregon.
