Kinzua Service Joins Couple in Marriage Miss Glenda Sue Shelton. dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Llovd Shelton, became the bride "of PKC Wayne E Cox, son of Mrs. Anna Cox of H.ilstead, Kansas and Archie Cox of Kinzua on Tuesday evening, December 'JO, at the Kiiu.ua Community church. The double ring service was read by Rev. Edwin Derrick be fore the altar which was dec orated with baskets of red and white carnations and lighted by tall white candles In candlenb- ra and a lighted Christmas tree. The bride, escorted to the al tar hv her father, wore a street length (less of white lace over satin. Her shoulder length veil was held bv n crown of white satin anil sied pearls and she carried an arrangement of red and white carnations centered with a removable corsage of the red carnations. Maid of honor was Miss De lores Shelton, sister of the bride, who wore a street length dress of Christmas red lace and chif fon. She carried a nosegay of red and white carnations. Serving as best man was Wil liam Stephens with James W. Cox and Dennis Cox serving as Ushers. t , The bride's mother chose to wear a winter white sheath with grey coat and grey accessories. Her corsage was of white carna tions, Wedding music was played by Mrs. Robert Kelso who aiso ac companied Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Freeman when they sang two special numbers. Handling the guest book was Miss Linda Keller while the gift table was in- charge of Miss Carol Lynn Nlstad and Miss .Sharyl Mabe. The reception was held Im mediately after the ceremony in the church annex where a three tiered wedding cake in the brides colors of red and white was topped with a bride and groom. The cake was placed on u large mirror which was en circled with polnsettla-shaped Christmas lights. After the bride ' nnd groom shared the first slice of cake, the rest was cut and served by Mrs. John Nelson. Coffee was poured by Mrs. William Steph ens, while Mrs. David Mattlson served the punch. After a short wedding trip to Portland, the young couple re turned to Kinzua until Wayne leaves Thursday for Fort Stew art, On., where he is stationed. Both young people are gradu ates of Wheeler High school. Do you have a secret remedy for peace? Mrs. Justine Weatherford'g composition students have writ ten these essays as a class as signment. The students were to assem ble a background of informa tion in their essays on the sub ject "Peace Is Attainable" and then formulate their own per sonal conclusions as to how world peace may be attained and what they consider a for mula for this problem. The essays were not to ex ceed 5000 words. The grand prize winner will receive a $25,000 personal edu cation andor career assistance grant from the Lions' Club. This will be based on an internat ional level with entries from all over the world. There will be eight second place essays from eight world geographical divisions. Each winner will receive: $1000 cash prize, an expense-paid trip to Lions International 50th Anni versary Convention at Chicago, a gold medal or a personalized plaque from the International President. January 5. 1967 Senior Girls Take Betty Crocker Homemoking Tests Four girls of the senior clasa took the Betty Crocker Home making Test recently. The test, given to Donna Pot ter, Carol Rawlins, Barbara Bloodsworth, and Verina French was administered by Mrs. Le ona Winters, Home Economics teacher at Heppner High. All senior class girls of par ticipating schools are eligible to take the 50 minute test on homemaking knowledge and attitudes. The highest-scoring girl In each school will be named lo cal Homemaker of Tomorrow and will receive a silver charm award. Her test paper will then be judged with other local win ner's papers to determine two scholarship winners In the state. There are many dollars In scholarships available to the state and national winners, plus an all-expense paid tour of Washington. D. C, and Col onial Williamsburg. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Dick, Stu art, Erin and Kevin spent Christ mas at Ryderwood, Wash, with Mrs. Dick's mother, Mrs. B. C. Forsythe and other members of the family. L. Searcy in Portland on December 21. They returned December 22. bringing with them Mrs. Ruggles' sister-in-law, Mrs. S. W. Searcy for a Christmas visit On Christmas day, the Ruggles and Mrs. Sear cy drove to Richland to be with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fastabend, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ruggles, and their six children. Thursday, December 29, Mrs. Searcy returned to Port land with Mrs. Fastabend. New Years guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ruggles were old friends from Moro, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Sayrs. Mr. and Mrs. Em lie Grosbens made a delayed departure be cause of Heppners snow, for a Christmas visit with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Hough in Portland. They left December 26 and returned home after a week's stay. Other visitors at the Hough home were Mrs. Grosh ens' son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Grant S. Carter. The Rev. and Mrs. Billle Al- sup, Jr., are the parents of a new daughter, Melody Joy, born Christmas Eve at Good Shep herd hospltaL Melody joins four sisters and two brothers at home.
