A business meeting and program followed. Guests of the meeting were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth I'alma leer, cousins of Mr. and Mrs. Herl Akers and members of Gar field Crango No. 310 In Clack mas County. Mr. I'almateer, a former Grange Master, apokc briefly. For the program, slips were passed out with quotations of "take time to do" to make life more Ideal. Mrs. Vtda Heliker read a timely poem, then told some thing of her recent trip to Glenn's Ferry, Idaho. She told bow large corporations have re claimed the desert lands of cen tral Idaho, Installing sprinkler systems supplied by the Snake Klvcr. Large potato farms, con sisting of as many as 531X1 acres are M-en covering former sage brush hills. Potatoes are har vested by machinery and sold to manufacturers of potato chips, mashed potatoes, scallop ed potatoes, hashed brown pota toes, etc. F.veryone Is famlllur with the Idaho isjtalo of T.V. fame, pota toes left on the ground by har vesters are given freely to the country side for picking them up. The speaker displayed sam ples of potatoes which weighed more than 2 lb. each. Mrs. Omar Kletmann won the prize for writing the most states In the "Name the States" con test. Home Economies Club met for an all dav meeting last Thurs day, at the home of Mrs. Art Dalell. with Mrs. Richard Kin der as co hostess. Fifteen mem bers answered roll call. The next HEC meeting will be October 20 at the home of Mrs. Herl Akers, with Mrs. Cleo Child ers as co-hostess. Due to con flicting dates, this will be a Thursday meeting. The ladles will serve the dinner and a do nation will be given by mem bers. All receipts will go to the club treasury. Next Grange meeting will he an "oen house" fun night on October 15. The educational program for the year will follow a study of foreign countries, their customs and foods. Theme for the Sept ember meeting was on Hawaii. Members will again place fruit cakes on sale during the year at lone and Heppner, with the proceeds going for the wa ter softener fund for Pioneer Memorial hospital. The group met for the large birthday dinner, with ail child ren of the Walter Brltts and their grandchildren present Enjoying the day together were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brltt; Marvin Brltt and daughters Sandra and Debra; Mr. and Mrs. Armond Britt and family; Mrs. Malda Brltt; Mr. and Mrs. Vie Fusselman of Burns; Lee Eddins of Madras, and the hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Britt, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Vawter Parker and son Vawter, Jr., of Hood River and daughter Mrs. Scott H. Goodnight, Jr., and small daughter Julie, of Portland, were visitors at the home of Mr. Parker's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Parker on Saturday. Vawter, Jr., left this week to re sume his studies at Stanford University, where he is enrolled for his senior year. Guests lost week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Anderson were Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Swift of Duarte, Calif. Week - end guests were their daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Adelia Martin and Suzanne. Alan Boschee, 7, Has Leg Broken Alan Boschee, 7, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Al Boschee, Is back home after undergoing treatment over the week-end at Pendleton Community hospital for compound fracture of the right leg. The boy is in a cast and Im proving nicely following the In jury. He was playing with a neighbor boy, Tom Stockard, when, the accident occurred late Friday afternoon. Both bones in the leg were broken and extend ed through the skin. Alan was taken to Pendleton for specialized treatment in the Pendleton Community hospital.
