Content of the planned pro lirarrm will cover changes In mission work to meet contem porary needs; dialogue with oth er world religions; the Christ Ian culture, world economy and space; compulsive conformity and Christian values, and plans for action to meet present day problems. Many of the programs are designed to be presented in dialogue form, and offer ample opportunity for open dlscuasion.. Mrs. Jack KrW'Ker led the de votional period, with Mrs. Mel vln Dixon arranging the worship center. Mrs. Bob llenrv presided at the business meeting. Following a report from the executive com mittee by Mrs. Kenneth Batty, action was taken to send contri butions to mission supply work and to hold three money-making events during the year. The first will be November 19, on Saturday before the Thanksgiv ing holiday. Plans for a mother-daughter banquet were finalized for Wed nesday evening, September 2H. Mrs. Marian Van deMark, act ing deun of women at Portland University, will speak and show slides of a recent African trip. Men of the church will serve the banquet, and tickets will be available In advance. Mrs. Melvln Dixon and Mrs. Owen Leathern served as co hostesses for the evening. District Officers Here to Take Part In Local Installation Several American Legion and Auxiliary district officers trav eled to Ucppner from Athena Monday evening to take part In Installation ceremonies of this year's oflicers. Mrs. Turner Hosts Bookworms Meeting First meeting of the year for the Bookworm club was Tues day evening at Mrs. Virginia Tumor' home where members gathered for a potluok supper and organization of the year's program. The meal wan nerved at a beautiful table arranged with flowers and china in shades of pink on a pale pink dama.sk cloth. Kach member furnished food for the meal. Those present were Mm. Bob Henry, Mrs. Turner, Mr. Lucy Peterson, Mr. Ted Smith, Mrs. Inez Krwln, Mrs. Gene Fergus on, Mrs. Cornett Green, Mrs. Jim Thomson and Mrs. Charles .St arks. New president of the organi zation Is Mrs. Cornett Green. Vice-president Is Mrs. Henry; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Turn er; and asKlstant for Mrs. Turn er Is Mrs. Peterson. A schedule for entertaining and book-reviewing was drawn up, with the next meeting planned for September 27 at the Cornett Green home. Miss Bern let Thomson. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Thomson, Is In Heppner for a two weeks visit with her par ents. She came Friday, Septem ber 9, and Is on vacation from her position as hecrctary at Lunn t Bradstreet In Portland. Monagle Relatives Meet in Germany; Plan Ireland Tour A family reunion on foreign ground took place this week in Ireland between Capt. and Mrs. John W. Barry, son-in-law and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Monagle of Heppner, and Mrs. Barry's uncle and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. Barney P. Doner ty of Pendleton. The Barrys and their two small sons are living near Heid elberg, Germany, with the V. S. Armed Forcps, and Mr. and Mrs. Dohorty are traveling though Europe with a planned tour. The couples were able to meet briefly In Heidelberg on July 21, but are now planning to be together for a week, trav eling about Ireland and visiting relatives In that country. The Dohortys will return to Pendleton at the end of September. HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thurxiay. September IS. 1966 Visitors at tho Bob Abrams home during the past week end were Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Abrams, Everett, Wn., par ents of Mr. Abrams. Mrs. Sara Morrow, mother of Mrs. Abrarm left Thursday, September 8, to return to hor home In Prescott, Ariz. A former Heppner High student, Margaret Marks, stop ped overnight September 7 at the Abrams home. Miss Mahoney Tells Soroptimists of Tour To English Countries Miss Shannon Mahoney was a prof'atn guest of the Soroptl mlst club at Its luncheon meet ing last Thursday noon. An Interesting report was giv en by Shannon of a tour which she and her aunt, Mrs- Kath leen Mathci of Pendleton, took In late June and early July to Ireland, Scotland and England. Color slides of their travels showed the unique beauty of the countries, their culture and ways of life. Time limited her In sh-rwinf slides of only half the trip, but was Invited to con tinue on a later program. Discussion was held by club members on entering the club's float in Pendleton for the Dross Up parade September 10. With the offer of Dick Wilkinson to transport li by flatbed truck to Pendleton, It was decided to place It in the parade. Those helping to reassemble and get it ready In Pendleton for the pa rade were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnson, Mrs. Wes Sherman, Mrs. Wavc-1 Wilkinson and Mrs. Matt Hughes. Martin, Heppner Element ary school principal, and Mrs. Barnes returned to Heppner Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Kit George left August 8 for Ft. Collins, Colo., where he will enter the School of Forestry of Colorado State University as a Junior. He pre viously attended Eastern Ore gon College at La Grande and Blue Mountain Community College.
