Third was Mrs. Charles Doaerty of Junior Golfers Make Good Show In Tourney Play By VIRGINIA KELSO KINZUA Junior members of the Kinzua Golf club completed n week of tournament plav at the local course recently. The youngsters, rangine in ace from 10 to 16 were divided into two croups according to age and both matches in the Junior Mens' and Womens' finals were carried to the last hole before a champion was crowned. Sparkling eolf was displayed throughout the tournament and the young divoteers seem to be improving as years pass. Much to the bewilderment of their el aers who are becoming hard pressed to keep up with their .ons and daughters. On Saturday. August 27. all the Junior members and their friends participated in the sixth annual party and dance given them by the Senior members. Held at the local club house, much gaiety held forth top tied by presentation of trophy wards. The twelve voung golfers who emerged as winners were: Jun ior ladies: champion, Verla Con ner; runner-up. Shellie Guinn. First flight winner: Jannie Chase, with runner up. Kelle Guinn. Girls division: Champion: Sara Bowman with runner up, Theresa Hyatt. Junior men: Champion. Kevin Bell with run ner up. John Wall. First flight winner, Joe Bowman with run ner up Ron Bowman. For boys: winner, Kent Bell, with runner up, Randy Hulett. Mr. and Mrs. Jiggs Bowman and family went to Stanfield Friday evening to spend until Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Man uel Espinola. While there they attended the Saturday wedding of Mrs. Bowmans brother. Lar ry Espinola to Miss Clara Kay Phelan of Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Don Slinkard, Linda and Mike Rice spent the Labor Day week-end in Klam ath Falls where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Arne Slink -urd. Mr. and Mrs. Doyal Hubbell and family and Mrs.- William t'ldridge of Milton-Freewa te r went to Brookings Friday to spend the week-end with Mr. and Mrs Frank Denton and family. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Browning and daughter Linda went to La Grande Saturday to spend the week-end with Mrs. Mae Wat son. Mrs. Watson was the for tunate winner of the cedar chest of linens raffled by the Kinzua Womens Club. Miss Susan Wright of Port land was home over the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Wright, Sr. Spending the Labor Day week end at Walton Lake were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ball and sons and Mr. and Mrs Robert Reavis. Spending the week-end in Reno were Mr. and Mrs. Way land Hyatt. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Jellick, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bail ey, Mr. and Mrs. James Hulett, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rice. Word has been received here of the arrival of a second son to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sargent of Redmond. The new arrival was born August i, weignea 7 lb., 14'4 oz., and has been named Dennis Ray. Judge Peterson has been a di rector of the company for 12 years and has played a prom inent par: in its exceedingly re markable growth. Probably no man played a more imj-ortant part in the de velopment of the Boardman area than did Judge Peterson. He was in the forefront of a project that ultimately resulted in Boeing's interest in what promises to he a huge complex. Presently Judge Peterson is playing an important part in the proposed reclassification of des ert lands in Eastern Oregon. Meeting Set Tuesday For Golden Age Club Regular meeting of the Hepp ner Golden Age club will be Tuesday evening, September 13, at the Episcopal Parish hall Members and guests will join for a potluck dinner at 7:00 p.m., followed bv a variety of favor ite kinds of entertainment. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wishart and family had as guests over the Labor Day week-end, Mr. and Mrs. Rav Eller, Ronnie, Bobby and Cindy of Union. Three of four firemen arrived with two trucks in time to help put it out but residents there had it virt ually supptessed when they ar rived. A silent alarm Wednes day took out one truck to find a car 'hat reportedly was on fire. The firemen couldn't find a burning car and returned. The two wno responded were Chief Charles Ruggles and Bill Farra. Lynch Improving Jim Lynch, who was seriously injured in a fall in the dry kiln under construction at Kinzua Corporation's plant here July 4, is now showing good improve ment at Good Samaritan hospit al, Portland, it was reported this weeK. It is expected that he will be confined to the hos pital for six or eight months, al though he may transfer to the Veterans' hospital from Good Samaritan at some time in the future.
