They traveled a southerly route, goltiK to Florida, visiting Cayonlands Nat. Monument, Arches National Monument In Utah and Mesa Verde Park In Colorado. They took a 3 Mi hour tour of the Carlsbad Caverns In New Mexico and saw thousands of bats leave the caves for the evening. They went past the I..B.J. ranch and visited an an tebellum plantation house In a huge prove of oak trees laden with Spanish moss near Frank lin, La. They spent one night In the old French Quarter of New Orleans. Seven days were spent visit Ing In Florida with Al's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Murk Brazell and other relatives. They also visit-- relatives of his in Folkstone, Georgia. They were Interested In a vis It to a large cattle ranch In the heart of Florida, where a cross of Brahma and Hercfords were raised. Tin- ranch also grew peanuts ami Ix-ans. They enjoy ed trips to the Cypress Gardens ind Ski Show, Stephen Foster Memorial, Iteptile Institute Show at Silver Springs, Singing Tower and Sancluary at Lake Wales, a Spanish Fort built in ltiVJ, alligator farm, and many other Interesting sights. They also enloved early morning swims daily In the warm At lantic Ocean and hunting for shark's teeth. Coming home they crossed the Great Smoky Mountains and traveled the Blue Ridge Mount ains Parkway In North Carolina and Tennessee. They were guests of Capt. and Mrs. Roy Belcher of the U. S. Navy at Bardstown, Ky., where thev wit nessed the "Stephen Foster Story". Thev visited the Nation al Headquarters of the Nation al Federation of Garden Clubs In St. Louis. Mo. They toured the gardens and the Climatron. The Martins said they experi enced rain nearly every day at some time or other In varying amounts. They ran Into stronR winds In South Dakota and saw a transported trailer house smashed along the highway by the wind. While at Marlneland In Florida, they were hit by a drenchin.; thunderstorm. The humidity was about 90 In the southern states. Large Family Group Meets for Reunion Mrs. N. D. Bailey and her sister, Mrs. Maggie Reynolds, both of lleppner, were among 73 relatives who attended a family reunion recently at Sell wood Park In Portland. The large gathering met for their 17th annual reunion. The wom en were two of five Sherlock sis ters attending, another was un able to be present. Mrs. Bail ey's two daughters and four sons and their families attend ed. He had been confined the past two years In a nursing home at Lincoln City. Funeral services were planned for Thursday (today) at Lincoln City. His son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Sargent, Jr., have also made their home In tlie Lincoln City area, since leaving lleppner a few years ago. Alice, now known affec tionately In Alaska as "Mag gie", attended school here, and moved away when about ten years of age. Maurice Frye was a brother of Mrs. Brown. Mrs. MacNIece has the unus ual distinction of being magis trate, coroner, customs and Im migration agent, official record er and sometimes census-taker for the whole Aleutian chain, a precinct covering 1,500 miles in length. During her stav Grant was able to Ret a shore leave from the carrier, Yorktown In Long Beach and came to Sacramento. While she was in California she also visited Mr. and Mrs. Pallas Green and son Larry in Fresno. Mrs. Green is a cousin and a former supervisor in the La Grande schools. On the return trip Mrs!
