lone Area Severely Hurt By Hail, Water Damages Br KATHERINE LINDSTROM IONK A severe hail atorm struck wheat ranches In this community last Thursday re sulting In heavy damages. Field of brirlry and wheat In the Flghtmllc, Gooseberry, Rhea Crw'k, nnd Kourmlle areas, nil south of lone, suffered nil the way from ,10 to K0 percent dam age. Washouts on the Hhrn Creek, Brenner Canyon, and Kourmlle muds occurred. At the Raymond l.undell runch .57 Inches of hail and rain fell. On Rhea Creek the Padberg farm wa flooded with Water from the hillside ami canyon covering the hav field and sur rounding the house. North of lone, wheat ranches had a terrific wind nnd rain Morm for a few minute, but in most Instance harvest con tinued the next afternoon. Rain measured less than .20. Ralph Martin and a friend, Mike Klrkman, both of Oregon City, are visiting at the F. T. Martin home. They went to Bull Prairie to spend Saturday and Sunday with Mr. Dockter. Don Brlxtow drove to Hock away this week-end, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Hristow have been vacationing. The entire family met there for a reunion. Kathv Shockley arrived on Wednesday for a visit with her friend, Teresa Stefanl. She ac companied Mr. and Mrs. Arnle lledmnn of lleppner here from her home In Seattle. Her bro ther, Pat, also came along for a visit at the Hedman home. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hausler and family left on Saturday for Wal lowa Lake, where Mr. Hausler will again tench at the Wallowa Day Camp. Mrs. Pete Cannon has been appointed life guard at the lone swimming pool to replace Hausler. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Salter and other relatives were Bill Salter and his bride, the former Susan Dobbin of For est Orove. The young couple were married In Reno, Ncv., on June 21. Mr. and Mrs. Salter will reside In Forest Orove, where he Is an Instructor at the Forest Orove High school. Injured tn Auto Accident jm Hams was badly Injured Friday evening In a one car accident south of the C. C. Jones place on the way home from lleppner. His car had a blowout on a curve and rolled over throwing him from the car. Hams, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vester Hams, Is confined to Pio neer Memorial hospital with multiple bruises and lacerations. Mr. and Mrs. I.eo Crabtree drove to Walla Walla on Tues day to meet the Alvln McCabes. Ashley, Kevin, and Jlmm I e came home with their grandpar ents for an extended visit. Alternate chosen from lone was Doug Begg. The team will play in The Dalles on July 21. John Peterson of Los Angeles was visiting relatives In lone on July 11. He is on vacation and has been visiting his par ents, Mr. nad Mrs. Victor Peter son in The Dalles. Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Pieper of Lex ington for part of the summer are their grandchildren, Diane Dick of Portland and Lisa and Ricky Pieper of Eugene. Diane's mother, Mrs. Lavelle Nelson of Portland returned home Thurs day, July 14, bv ' bus after a few days visit with the Piepers. The visitors all drove up from Portland with Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Dick and daughter Debra Friday, July 8. The Daryl Dick family was here that week-end as guests of her father Maurice Groves and family and of his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Pei per. They also visited other rel atives and friends in the area.
