Carrying out the theme of the banquet the room wan decorated with a I'olynen Ion atmosphere. , The entrance dratted wlih fifth nets and the far end of the dance floor had a grass shack and Island Klrl. Knren Nelson was hostess for a breakfust at their country home following the dance for the IuuIotk and their dates and the dance band. Mrs. Walter Dobvns of Eu Peno la a mict at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jepsen and family. The Jepscns brought her here from Portland on Monday. Several families from here at tended the Krebs family reun ion on Sunday nt the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hon Anderson near Arlington. Those going were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Krvhs and family. Mr. and Mrs. Jim West and family. Mrs. Henry R. Kreba and family, and Mr. and Mr. Bill Kletmann and family. Mrs. Horry Ash has returned home from Pioneer Memorial hospital In Heppner. where she recently underwent major aur- KefV. Mr. and Mrs. Jodie K. Morris on spent the week-end at Cor vallls visiting their daughters, Merrle Jo and Tass at Oregon State. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Ekstrom Jr. spent the first of the week In Portland on business. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Swan Hon and Jim were visitors In Portland on Sunday and Mon day. Thev were accompanied by Stephen Adams, who had spent Saturday and Sunday here vis iting at the Adon Hamlctt home. Al Bulottl returned from Pio neer Memorial hospital last Thursday after attending some time there for treatment. The fifth and sixth grades ac companied bv their teachers, Jack Ixtyd and Mrs. Opal Sit va, went to McNary Dam Isst Tuesday for a field trip. Wal lace Matthews drove them over In a school bus. Lindsay Klncald returned home last Tuesday from a long stay In Pendleton Community hospital. His leg Is much Im proved, but will require addit ional surgery later. While thev were call ing at the Leo Crabtree home, a former classmate of Mrs. Mc Cane's, Mrs. J. Parker and Mr. Parker of Beaverton, stopped In on their way home from the Junior Chamber of Commerce convention In Pendleon. Four Morrow county 4-H live stock clubs met at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert hkstrom Sr. on Sunday for a field day. Kkslrom demonstrated using the hoof trimming tables and showed how to curl and trim hair nnd prepare an ani mal for show. He gave the voung people pointers on feed ing and thev then Judged a class of calves and one of heif ers. Mrs. Elmer Griffith returned on Monday from Portland, where she had spent a few days. She accompanied Mrs. George Grif fith, who had taken their dau ghter, Charlotte, back to school In Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Coral Johnson of Eugene spent Sunday and Monday visiting old friends In lone and vicinity. Johnson lived In the Gooseberry area about 40 years ago and waa very Inter ested In all the changes which had taken place In the commu nity through the years. Betty Greenup fell from her horse this week end and broke her right wrist. Tho bone was shattered and the arm has been placed in a cast reaching above the elbow. Mrs. Ida Coleman left this week for Portland to visit rela tives. She rode down with her daughter, Mrs. Jack Healy and Mrs. Annie Hcalv of Hcpnper. Mr. and Mrs. Charles O'Con nor spent the last of the week In Portland. O'Connor was a delegate from the lone Lions club to the State Lions Conven tion at the Hilton Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Eks trom. Sr, spent the week-end at La Grande, where they en joyed Parents Week-end on the Eastern Oregon College campus with their aon, Roland. DATES TO REMEMBER: The lone High and Grade School bands and high school chorus will present an annual spring concert on Friday even ing. May 20. at 8:00 p.m. Re freshmenta will he served by hand mothers. The public is Invited to attend. The summer schedule at Unit ed Church of Christ will begin on May 29, with morning wor ship service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Church school classes, from the fifth trade through high school will be suspended for the summer. The lower grade class es will meet at 9:30 at tho Christian Education Building through the month of June. There will be no classes during July and August and families arc urged to worship together at the morning worship service. On May 23, the Women's fel lowship will meet at the United Church of Christ social rooms to pack the clothing that has been gathered during the clothing drive for Church World Service. Women are asked to bring sack lunches and work will begin at 9:30 a.m. The annual church auction and barbecue will be held June 4 at Willows Grange Hall. Don ald Brlstow or Bill Rietmann may be contacted to pick up articles for auction listing. Baccalaureate services for lone High school will be held at the Cafetorium on May 29, at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. Walter B. Crowell delivering the add ress to the seniors. Rev. Don McCarty of Heppner will give the Invocation and benediction. Class night Is planned for Tuesday evening. May 31, at 7:30 p.m. when all awards to students wtll be made. Graduation exercises will be Friday. June 3. at 8:00 p.m. In the gymnasium with Wallace W. McCrae, president of Blue Mountain College, as the sched uled speaker. Bristow Elected To Head Lions Donald Brlstow has been elec ted president of the lone Lions club and will be Installed at a special installation dinner Sat- j urday evening. June 11, at 6:30 In the lone American Legion hall. First vice president Is Harold Snider, second vice president is Lloyd Morgan and third vice president is Dave Baker. Ray Boyce will continue ns secre tary treasurer. Other officers elected are Rob ert Drake, tall twister: Lindsay Klncald, Lion Tamer; James Barnctt and Charles O'Connor, directors for one year; and Da vid Potter and Joseph Balfe, dir ectors for two years. Women who sponsor the kin dergarten will put on the Instal lation dinner, and the "Three Blind Mice" will play for a (lance that will follow the din ner. Tickets will be $3 per per son. The club recently purchased six turnout coats for the lone fire department at a cost of $125. It also raised amount of schol arships to be given to a boy and girl eacn from Heppner and lone High senior classes to $75 each from the former $oO. This totals $30(1 In scholarship funds given, all to be used in the win ter term or second semester of the first year of college by the recipient. At the May 9 meeting the club members viewed motion pictures on "The American Her itage' as a program feature with Ron Bishop, president, In charge of the meeting. Br LoVELLE PABTLOW IRRIGON Mayor Chester Wll son presided at the May City Council meeting, which began with the City Budget Hearing, which was adopted later In the evening. Jim Keith gave Planning Commission report, and also re ported on meeting with the Corps of Engineers in regard to development of a recreational area on the Columbia River within the Irrigon City limits. The engineers have stated their Intention to drill a well with 2'' main and underground sprinkler system, seed two to three a(res of lawn, and furnish picnicking facilities. School wtll be dismissed Mon day, May 30, Memorial Day. The PTA Community Picnic will be at the A. C. Houghton school grounds Sunday, May 22, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The pot luck dinner will be followed with games for both young and old. Students from A. C. Houghton school will compete In a track meet at Arlington Friday May The Irrigon Lions club will sponsor a Bingo party at the A. C. Houghton cafetorium Sat urday night. May 21. at 7:30 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Warren McCoy and Debbie attended Parents Weekend at Eastern Oregon College, where their daughter busan is a sophomore. McCoys took in the barbecue and other events. They were overnight guests of her brother-in-law and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Va lines and family, and also vis ited her mother, Mrs. Millie O'- son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Meeker and their daughter, ' Miss Janice Parker. While In Seattle, they attended the Ice Follies. Mr. and Mrs. Jay Berry of Portland are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Albert Partlow and Sheryl. They also visited Mrs. Berry's sisfc. Miss Snow McCoy of Hermlston, and Mr. and Mrs. James Mills and boys of Herm lston. The annual Boy Scout auction was at the A. C. Houghton school grounds Saturday. The various 4-H clubs of the com munlty ran concession booths In conjunction with the auction. Bob Kenney of Portland spent Wednesday to Saturday with nis folks, Mr. and Mrs. Don Kenney and George The Carapfire Girls had their annual Pow Wow Friday and Saturday at Camp Ta-Wa-Shee, wharh means "Sunny Woods' at Stanfleld. Seven girls from the Ta-Wa Plt-Kin campf Ire group, led by Mrs. Elmer Zeh tier, attended the Pow Wow. Da nette Lctghton and Karen Rich ards earned their Trail Seeker Rank by taking their hike and cooking their meals over the pen tire. The girls packed and unpacked their own equipment, and slept out overnight. Food for the Pow Wow was furnish ed by proceeds from the candy sale. Mr. and Mrs, Ben McCoy at tended Parents' Week-end at Eastern Oregon College over the week-end, where their son, Ter ry, Is a student They attended the afternoon barbecue and oth er events. Bob McRae was released from St Anthony hospital in Pendle ton Saturday, after undergoing and Mrs. Albert Partlow and SneryL Sunday, the two fam ilies were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Mills, Ricky, Randy and Steve of Hermlston. Other dinner guests were Miss Snow McCoy of Hermlston, and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Berry of Port land. The youth group of the Irri gon Assembly of God church sponsored a Hawaiian Luau at the A. C. Houghton cafetorium Saturday evening, with proceeds going toward equipment lor missionaries. Mrs. Earl Isom was in charge of the dinner. assisted by Mrs. Bill Graybeal, Mrs. Perry Pummel, and Miss Donna bom, and Mrs. Albert Partlow. The young people dec orated the cafetorium In Haw allan fashion and had a tabla of Hawaiian curios. Candlelight and Hawaiian music added to the atmosphere. After the ban quet Rev. Kenney showed col ored slides which he had taken during the years he and his family were In Hawaii. Special musical numbers were sung by Margaret and Jeannle Goodwin of Hermlston, Mrs. Floyd Hobbs, Mrs. Perry Pummel, Mrs, Albert Partlow and the Assembly of God Youth Choir, Irrigon. Mrs. John Kenney underwent surgery at St Anthony hospital In Pendleton Monday morning. Menus at A, - C.
