Pilot Rock, who is serving as tournament director. The tournament, which will be held in the Pendleton Ar mory on Thursday and Friday, March 3 and 4, and in the high school gym at Milton-Freewater on Saturday. March 5, will fea ture the top five teams from topping all scoring with his 18 points, fell to a firrst quarter deficit of 16-13. The Mustangs in the second quarter tied the Huskies as both teams scored IS points, giving the Mustangs a slight lead at halftime, 34-31. The third quarter found Sher man scoring the same as Hepp ner again with each team pot ting 15. Director Radcot re ported the following pairings for the first round of the tour nament: South Team No. 1 ver sus North Team No. 5; North Team No. 2 versus North Team No. 4; South Team No. 2 ver sus North Team No. 3 and North Team No. 1 versus South Team No. 3. Playing outstanding defense In the final period, Heppner pulled away and put it in the bag. Sherman managed only six while Heppner potted 13 to end the game with the tally standing 62-52. Four . The game was played on Sherman's floor. The Huskies started out with a first quarter lead of 11-4, and held the half-time score, 2514. The final buzzer found the Baby Mustangs 20 points short. The Mustang scoring attack was led by Steve Pettyjohn and Dave Hall with 10 points each, while both boys showed a lot oi hustle on the boards. Heppner only had two boys in double figures while Sherman had Three. Sherman's scoring was led by Coelsch and Knott witn 12 and ll points in that order. The losers will meet in con solation play on the afternoon of Friday and the winners will play to decide Saturday's final ists on Friday night Pilot Rock High school, where Tournament Director Radcot is prlndpal, and the Pilot Rock Junior Chamber of Commerce, headed by Clifton Smith, will act as official hosts for the two days and nights of play at the Pendleton Armory while Wes- ton High school, under Super intendent Don Roberts, will be host at the final night of play at Milton-Freewater. Details and plans for the tournament were worked out in earlier meetings by the tourna ment committee consisting Don Roberts, Weston; Everett Holstein, lone, and Lyle Rilling, bpray. White Buffaloes Stop Jayvees Br ROGER LEONNIG Heppners jayvees dropped a basketball decision in double overtime, 41-40, against Madras Friday night. The game was one of the tightest defensive battles of the year. The first quarter saw Madras jump off to a 10-5 lead. Hepp ner, trailing midway In the sec ond quarter, 15-9, fought its way to within two points of Madras at the half, 17-15. David Hall started the second half off by tying the score. 17-17. Heppner then built up a 3-point lead at tne end or the quarter. in the final period Heppner managed to stretch ahead six points but Madras kept fiehtine DacK until tney tied the score, 36-36, as the quarter ended. In the first overtime neither team scored a point. The final over time saw Pettyjohn, who hus tled well on the boards, drop in two free throws to give Hepp ner the lead momentarilv. 40- 39. Randy Stillman fouled out with 30 seconds left and was replaced by Roeer Britt. With five seconds remaining Madras made two free throws and the jayvees lost a heart-breaker, 41 40. Hawes advised fans who have not yet received applica tions may write for them in care of A-l Basketball, Box Of fice, Memorial Coliseum, Port land, Ore. Season tickets are priced at $12 each for the hoop show scheduled at the Coliseum March 15-19. Hawes also said fans may send checks made payable to A-l Basketball directly to the Coliseum Box Office. He ad vised them to enclose a' stamp ed self-addressed return enve lope with each order. Tickets will go on sale at the Coliseum box office and at Stev ens & Sons Jewelers in the Lloyd Center on February 21. Hawes said. Hawes advised fans to place ticket orders immediately as the supply of season tickets is lim ited. The Coliseum will begin mailing out tickets on February 15, he added.
