Mrs. Pete McMur try of Heppner honored Mrs. Al Fetseh with the presentation of a 23-year jewel to her that had been given her mother, Mrs. Delia Duran, by Holly lodge many years ago. Mrs. Majeske also made a presentation of a 15-year jewel as a gift from herself to Mrs. Charles Jones. Although Mrs. Ed Hunt, past noble grand, could not be pres ent, lovely handmade gifts were presented her out-going oficers as her appreciation for their fine work the past year. Several visitors were present from out of town, and all en joyed a social hour in the din ing room following the meeting. Beta Omega Boosts Water Softener Fund To Near $300 Total Beta Omega chapter of Epsl Ion Sigma Alpha sorority held its business meeting at the home of Mrs. Melba Miller on January 5. Mrs. Marilyn RIetmann, treas urer, reported that a profit of $166.64 was made on the din ner served at the lone Fall Fes tival. This makes a total of $292.24 raised by the chapter for the water softener fund for Pio neer Memorial hospital at Heppner. A total of S7.65 was collected by the chapter for the muscu lar dystrophy drive. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting by Mrs. Miller. Vets Loans Show Drop in 1966 drove to Portland last Wednes day morning after receiving word that Mrs. Borger's mother. Mrs. Bertha Catlow, had been Injured in a car accident. Mr. Catlow suffered a broken shoul der and cuts and bruises on her head, and is hospitalized at Portland Sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Collins took their daughter, Elsie Col lins, to College Place Sunday, where she Is a freshman at Wal la Walla College. C. Saalleld, dir ector, reported today. This was a 6 percent drop from 1964 when 3.734 veterans borrowed $41,723,000. Last year's volume makes a total of 52,021 loans In the amount of $455,- 083,324 to Oregon's World War II and Korean veterans since the program started in 1945. In Morrow county last year, loans were granted to five vet erans in the amount of $42,200, compared to eight loans in 1964 for $72,400. Since the start of the program, loans have gone to 93 veterans here in the amount of $664,350. Saalfeld said that of the $455 million borrowed, veterans have repaid $298 million in principal and interest. They fere repaying at the rate of about $3.8 million a month, with interest payments alone average about $980,000. Of the more than 52,000 loans granted. 30.017 were outstand ing on December 31 in the amount of $283,675,713. Service Held in Bend For C. Ross Langdon, Former Resident Here News of the death of C. Ross Langdon, 70, at a nursing home in Bend on January 10 has been received by friends here. Ser vices were held at the Nis-wonger-Reynolds Chapel in Bend at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan uary 12. Langdon was born April 8, 1889, in Colfax, Wn. He was raised in the Heppner commun ity, made his home here many years with his family, and work ed as a garage mechanic. He had lived In Bend recently to be nea his daughter, Mrs. Harold Gentry, 354 E. Irving Street. A son. Rex Langdon, Is in charge of the airport in Hermiston.
