Other visitors at the Worden home recently were their daughter, Mrs. Dallas Forthman and daughter Cathy of Payette, Idaho, and Mr. and Mrs. John Roberts and daugh ters Linda and GaiL and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Shurtz, all of Klickitat, Wash. All were here for the 25th wedding anniver sary of Mr. and Mrs. Risley. Week-end visitors at the home of Mrs. Glen Carpenter were her sisters, ; Mrs. Esther Emmons and Eva LaChance of La Grande; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Clarence LaChance and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. ' Robert Teeling and son Bobbie, ana Konnie Kaiston, all of King ston, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sicard, and her brotner-in-iaw and sister, Mr. and Mrs. uunnar bkoubo. Charles A. Thomas was taken to the uood Shepherd hospital in Hermiston July 5, suffering with a heart attack. Califfs Welcome Son Word has been received here of the birth of an eight pound. one ounce son, James Douglas. born July 4 in Troutlake, Wash., to Mr. and Mrs. Douglas callil, former residents here. Grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Gib Califf of Estacada, and Mr. and Mrs. Holland Holeman of Herm iston. Shirley Earwood went to Esta cada to visit two weeks at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Califf. Mrs. Frank Marlow spent the week-end in Walla Walla, Wash., visiting her aunts, Mrs. Ernest Zerba and Mrs. A. C Knudson. Mr. and Mrs. John Matthews and family moved to Wasco this week. This community had a hard wind and dust storm Tuesday night of last week, which blew a lot of trees down on the proj ect i Dick. The Dicks met them In Pen dleton Friday and continued on with them to Spokane, Wn, to visit the BUI Barrett family, and enjoyed with them the Diamond Cup boating races on Lake Coeur d'Alene during the week end. The BarratU' daughter. Vlckl. reigned as queen of the all-girl Kodeo at bunrlse Tracks near Spokane. Among horses entered in the races were those owned by Max Barclay and Rod Mur ray, with the Barclay horse tak ing first place. Heppner Students Get Awards at WSU Two Heppner High school stu dents, Frances Abrams and Mike Pierce, were awarded certificates of service for top performances in courses and activities at Washington State University's Aira annual High school bum mer Camp, which ended July 10. The two represented the Hepp ner High band at the summer camp. Frances, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Abrams, won her certificate in fine arts for paint ings that she did at camp and Mike,-son of Mr. and Mrs, Gene Pierce, won his in stagecraft helping with the production of the play, "Our Town. Frances and Mike were the only two from Heppner at the camp this summer. It started June 11, when the Abrams took them there, and the Pierces brought them back Saturday. Mr. and - Mrs. Abrams attended a parents' tea in mid-session at the camp, and Mr. and Mrs. Pierce attended band concerts Friday night and Saturday morning at Pullman. A total of 337 students from the western part of the country attended the camp. Frances will be a sophomore next year and Mike is a senior. Pettyjohns Enjoy Trailer Trip South -Mr. and Mrs. Howard Petty john - and family returned July 11 from a 10-day trip that took them as far as Disneyland and Marineland of the Pacific in California. They took their vacation trailer and had no trouble except for a traffic tick et picked up in one California town and a broken window in the trailer that occurred when one of the boys poked his elbow through It from his bunk. They went south via the short est route, John Day, Burns, Reno and Los Angeles, and returned via 99W. They found that state parks were few and far between but' had no difficulty finding roadside spots for overnight stops for the trailer. Thev spent one aay at Disneyland, round it crowded, but had a very en Joyable day there. Their traffic ticket came be. cause of their failure to realize that California has a low speed limit lor cars pulling trailers. They were traveling a few miles over this limit when an alert officer spotted them. Hams Visits Seafair Seaman Richard L. Hams. USN. son of Mr. and Mrs. Vester S. Hams of lone Is serving aboard the anti-submarine war fare support aircraft carrier USS Hornet, which participated in Seattle's "Seafair" June 18-2L This was Hornet's first visit to Seattle in seven years. Mrs. R. Hiese and two daugh ters returned Sunday from a visit in LouUlana with her folks. Little Carol fell down some steps and broke her leg while thev were there. A son was born Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. John Hanson of Portland were visiting friends here over the week-end. She was known here as Irene Jackson. daughter of the late Millie Wll son. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mann and two children of Brlghtwood spent several days last week visiting her mother. Mrs. Irene Forrest, and her brother, Jack Forrest, and family. Mrs. Arland Ridenour, Jimmy ana uariene or rrineviiie, came for an older daughter, Krlstene McKenny, who had been visiting relatives here the past two weeks. Gene Hunt accompanied his aunt back to Prineville to go to work. Mrs. Carol Sweek Myers and son of Junction City, and her niece, Miss Linda Bowman of waltsburg, Wn., have been vis iting her brother. Mrs. Jessie Emery returned home last Thursday from John Day hospital where she had surgery June 28. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Buxton moved into one of Fred McWil lis' houses last Thursday even ing. A surprise birthday supper was held last Wednesday even ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Verne McCarty for Granddad C. G. McCarty, on his 85th birth, day. Those present, besides the hosts and honored guest, were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reynolds and Sandra, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Reynolds, and Paul and Don Mccarty.
