Watrous, New Mexico, president of the Amer- Sod Water-way Aid In Checking Run-off We have commented from time to time about the many conservation practices that have been or are being established this spring, many of them as a result of erosion from the heavy run-off in the late December "Chinook." While we haven t added up the acres of grass secdings throughout the coumy. It would run much over l.Ouo, I am sure. In checking some of these iodines, it is surprising to se the ovccllent stands, even thnnrrh h sDrine has been dry One excellent seeding can be found at the Walt Jacobs ranch n tho cnuth lone area. Walt seeded 5Vi acres of sod w a t e r-w a y with Pubescent Wheat grass that will provide for excess run-orr wunoui bvhjuik as it becomes better established this summer. Where this water way ends, Llovd Howton has an extended seeding through his adjoining field. Walt has anoth er small water-way. seeded broadcast, that is doing very well. Since It is almost impos sible to keep all of the water in the field especially In such run offs as occurred this last De cember, sod-water-ways are one means of getting rid of it with out losing a lot of soil. Three Events of Interest Scheduled for Coming Month Three events that are fast ap proaching, and should be put on your calendar as a remind er, are the annual spring meet ing. Morrow County Wheat Growers Association; annual conservation and better farming practices tour, and the state conservation man of the year field dav. An interesting pro gram has been arranged with emphasis on foreign marketing, national farm programs and the county road program. Friday, June 4, will be the date of the annual tour which will feature many conservation practices both old and new. Persons par ticipating will have an oppor tunity to see practices that were effective in the heavy run-off of December, 1964, and some of the practices being established RANCHERS!
