Their sons have pretty much followed In the father's foot steps, all being In uniform. Bob, who has three sons, is serving with the Air Force in Germany, and his family is with him. John served In the military police service In Virginia and Is now night officer on the Heppner police force. Lnrry Is a ikjIIcc man In San Francisco. The daughter, Mary, Is Mrs. Don McClure, wife of Heppner High track coach. John has two children, Mary has four and Lar ry three, making 12 grandchild ren in Pat's family. Officer Pat Rtarted working for the city in 1940 as a patrolman under Chief Albert Schunk. In 1912 he went to the county to work as a deputy under Sheriff John Fulten. At that time Sher iff C. J. D. Bauman was on leave .trom the office for a hitch In the 4kabees. Fuiten Is now a minis ter and lives In Coos Bay. Pat came back to the city in 1915 and worked for a time in the water department. About four years later he returned to the city police force and became chief about 19-19. After five years in this capacity, he chose to step down to the post of relief man, which he has held since. During the 25 years as an of ficer, the big irishman has had many experiences of interest but, with a twinkle in his eye, said that he prefers not to talk about them. "Yes, I've always gotten along good with the kids here," said Pal. "They're a nice bunch of youngsters. The worst they do is violate traffic laws." When Pat was born In Ire land, his given name was mere ly "Patrick," without a middle Initial. But when he was Initia ted into the Elks lodge here 45 years ago, tne fraternal order provided him with tne middle Initial "A" in order to keep him separate from two other Pat Mollahans in the lodge, now both deceased The initial has stuck but no name goes with It. There have been quite a few changes through the years, and some differences in the people. For Instance, there Is much less drunkenness than there used to be, Pat says. With his experience and level headedness Mollahan has been valuable on the police depart ment for his counsel and advice. "Whenever we have had a ser ious problem, we could always sit down and talk It over with Pat." said Chief Gilman.
