Carbon Monoxide Danger Time Here "Motor vehicles, like the dragons of old. have a foul and fiery breath. From their tail pipes and crankcases these modern monsters can spew forth a steady, stream of pollutants," Dr. Richard H. Wilcox. State Health Officer, said today. High on the list of these poisonous gases is carbon monoxide, which cannot be seen or smelled. It can strike without warning and take its toll without its victims being aware of its presence. The immediate hazards of carbon monoxide poisoning are usually located right at home. And autos are not the only of fenders. Any gas-powered en gine allowed to run In a closed garage, a furnace with insuffic ient draft, a leaking gas stove or pipe are all common causes of carbon monoxide poisoning. Even in amounts as little as l50th of the normal oxygen con tent of the air, carbon monoxide can be fatal within an hour. Children and anemic persons are particularly susceptible.
